"We were pleased to get a last minute booking for lunch on a Saturday and on arrival were happy with their covid measures. A nice bright restuarant and we had a lovely view but that was luck as only 1 great window.Went for the lunch menu which is good value but noted for the a la carte still only 3 mains and a special which felt a little limiting perhaps just a consequence o the pandemic.Drinks arrived promptly with some bread which was a little dry.Staters we had a ham hock terrine (came with a pickled onion despite me saying did not want onions with main and not being listed) however it was pleasant and enjoyed the prune giving sweetness egg yolk dots did not offer much however. Hubby had gravalax with beetroot which was pleasant enough. For mains hubby had sea bass which was perfectly cooked but my rolled pork shoulder was a little disappointing (this time served with a charred spring onion despite the no onion request). It was a bit chewy and not enough of the fat either cooked off or removed. The polenta lacked the advertised parmesan flavour but was very crispy and the confit carrot tasty.Desserts we had the rice pudding which was yummy with cinnamon and apple but whilst the banana cake was tasty and moist it was fridge cold when warm would have been so much better. The chocolate sorbet served on the side was nice enough but not as expected as it was light suggesting perhaps a milk or drinking chocolate when I expected something darker anyway for those who remember tasted a bit like a mini milk lolly!Fudge with coffee seemed wrong in Scotalnd we prefer tablet but there you go. Last gripe was £4.20 for a double espresso seemed steep compared to other charges.Overall it was ok but little tweaks could make significant difference. Now one thing they can do nothing about but worth knowing and please take care is how uneven the steps were. We were lucky it was a dry day and I'm only 48 but they really felt worrying."

Fabulous meal and lovely service. Treated to an amuse bouche which is a nice touch. Would definitely go back.

Had a lunch there on the way to Aberdeen. I had grilled Hake which was very delight and fresh. My friends had kind of languistine dish and it was superb as well.

We ate from the set lunch menu, and found it excellent. Recently ate at 2 star Gavroche In London, which was great, but we enjoyed today's lunch more! Congratulations to the chefs!

Treated ourselves to lunch before leaving for home. Booked for the 3 course set menu for £20 each not expecting anything other than a nice lunch....WRONG!The food was excellent, prepared and presented to a very high standard. The portions didn't look very big, but even my husband had to admit it was enough even for him. Wished we'd been staying longer so we could have gone again!!Well done chef xx

This was our first meal out since lockdown and it did not disappoint. We had oysters, scallops, which for us were very satisfactory, we followed this with lobster grilled with lemon and garlic. The dessert of panna cotta and raspberries was lovely. Service was friendly and efficient, a big thank you to both young ladies who served us.Went home happy and did not need to buy a pizza on the way home!!For us the best restaurant in Stonehaven.

Just had an excellent lunch at The Tolbooth food and service very good as usual, it was so nice to be able to eat out again!! We felt very safe being there, hand sanitizer as you enter the door and waiting staff wearing masks and very friendly tables well spaced making you feel relaxed and not concerned about being too close while still maintaining a nice atmosphere. Food delicious and no increase in price since lockdown. Definitely will be back and highly recommend:

Overall, a disappointing experience. We were pleased to be offered a reservation for Sunday dinner as we had looked forward to eating here and had actually arranged a trip to Stonehaven with this restaurant in mind. We were given excellent service, a very tasty amuse bouche, and very enjoyable wine. The restaurant is bright, clean and pleasantly situated. Apart from these positives I have nothing to say to recommend this establishment. Our shared starter was insipid, at best, our mains bland (one hake and one halibut) and our shared dessert dull and unsatisfying. While there was nothing worth actually raising a complaint with our server or the management, we left feeling that we’d spent over...

The restaurant is clean but underwhelming for the price of the food which could be forgiven if the food was exceptional. We had the mussels and scallops to start. The mussels were the biggest disappointment, the sauce was not far off water, there was no flavour and to me, this dish should be the bread and butter. The mussels were however a good size. The scallops were nice but small. There was a long wait for the mains which is lucrative with the wine list. We had a bottle of NZ Marlborough which was £28, it was very nice but when we wanted a different bottle after, this was a challenge so we took the easier option and got the same bottle. For mains, we had the langoustine 's at an incredible £...
