Traveller's Rest - Speisekarte

A real Lakeland country pub with traditional food offers and atmosphere in an increasingly commercialized area. They also cater for vegans and those wanting gluten free meals. Good range of beers and spirits.

Barman very disinterested. Not welcoming. They were busy and our custom did not appear to be valued or wanted. Very expensive, over £10 for a Peroni and a pint, which was not topped up and therefore not full, of IPA. No thanks, went elsewhere

Called in here on the off chance on a Tues eve. It was packed, we managed to get the last table, good atmosphere, the menu and special board were good, I had the Cumberland sausage which was delicious, good size portion and a fair price, the staff were pleasant, we would come again.

Brilliant setting, but after everywhere else in town being too busy to accomodate us at 5:30pm, we ended up at the Travellers Rest. Even though ot wasent very busy at all, there was a 2 hours wait for food! Yes, 2 HOURS. I have never been told to wait for two hours before at a resteraunt/pub. Very dissapointing.

Visited recently with family and a load of dogs on a very wet afternoon. Menu has a good choice , I had hot chocolate and Cumberland sausage bap , with salad garnish, very tasty . Was very busy but service was very efficient and staff friendly and welcoming even though streams of very wet customers and dogs and bikes kept on coming!!

Good place to stop for lunch in an area of overpriced tourist traps! We had 2 pints, a portion of chips and a cheese and pickle sandwich which came to about £23.00. We sat in the little side area as found it too warm indoors. Shame that cigarette smoke was coming into the seating area from outside. But anyway, for a warm place to sit, a nice pint and a bit of grub after a long day, it's a great place to stop off.

Was greeted by the friendly barman when taking my order. However, I have to say I think the food is extremely overpriced. Ordered the garlic mushrooms and a side of chips. The garlic mushrooms were the cheap frozen ones and for about £8 I just don't think it's really good enough. The chips were the most standard cheap frozen chips you can get, so for £4.75 I expected proper homemade chips, especially given the price and location, I just expected better quality. The service was fine and the views are wonderful. I think the food needs to be better quality unfortunately.

The weather was favourable and we were able to grab the last bench seat at the front of the pub in the sunshine. Initial confusion when I asked the lady behind the bar which Jennings ales were available. She'd not heard of Jennings despite there being a Jennings lorry unloading barrels outside. Turns out they deliver everybody else's beer. The Wainwright amber ale was excellent. We both ordered the fish and chips and there was definitely more fish than batter, which is a very good thing in my opinion. The views are of course excellent and we were able to see the low flying RAF jets come round three times, always great to see them in the Lake District.

The Travellers Rest is the perfect place to go after a day on the fells. You can certainly see why it's so popular with walkers, being just up the road from Ullswater and the first pub down from the Hellvelyn range, the views are 360° stunning. We ordered two gin and tonics which were startingly overpriced for house gin (between £23 24). To add to the woe and to my absolute disbelief, terrible music was playing through the speakers and there was a swarm of flies outside. I understand the latter can't be helped, however upon moving inside the fly situation became worse and no effort was made to counter this. The icing on the bang average cake was that the Travellers Rest does not pay for Spot...
