"I visited this restaurant after seeing some online reviews, but I found that they were a bit outdated. I want to share that the food remains fantastic, the staff is friendly, and the prices are quite reasonable. I started with duck, enjoyed chicken supreme as my main course, and finished with a delightful chocolate fondant, which was definitely worth the extra wait. My husband had the pork belly, steak, and crème brûlée. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in years. The little extras, like the homemade fudge with the Irish coffee, homemade chocolates with the bill, and fresh bread with tapenade while we waited for our meals to be prepared, truly made it special. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend it. We'll definitely be back!"

"5* simply because I can’t leave 10! Dropped in here in desperation today Easter Saturday) after travelling around to a couple of places and not being able to get a table. Thought we were off to the Chinese in Pickering when we stopped her and asked if dogs were allowed in? Yes we were told and then did they have a table for 2? Despite being full and tables reserved they found us one, we had to wait a bit to have our order taken but they did get us drinks straight away while we waited for them to deal with the party of 8 that came in just before us. When they did take out order I went for the sirloin steak and my wife the lasagna. This was finished with apple crumble custard and hot choc fudge cake custard. We can honestly say it all was cooked to perfection. The steak I haven’t had so good in a long time even when I’ve cooked it) and the wife’s lasagna was spot on too. Puddings tasted perfect too. Lovely, small, but reasonable quite pub considering it was full. Staff were outstanding, friendly, helpful and polite apologising for our wait which considering we dropped in on the off chance was our fault not theirs. The landlord was great. Joking and making us feel at home and actually wanted. As others have said, every pub needs a landlord like this. Our only regret was it was our last night that we popped in even though over the years we’ve driven past it so many times. If you want a well cooked meal at a nice quiet county pub with good service and polite staff you don’t need to look any further. We will definitely be back here when in the area. Thank you so much to all the staff."

"Visited for Friday night dinner. Good mix o meat fish and vegetarian starters and mains. I had the soufflé it was perfect! J had the salmon and cod croquette lovely. Mains I had the venison wellington loin still just pink at the centre, ate perfectly, J had the herb crusted cod with a delicious butternut squash purée ,both with nice veg accompaniment. Sweets both delicious. Good wine choices by glass or bottle. Service excellent throughout . Unfortunately, didn’t take pictures."

"what a fantastic family pub. delicious food and great beer. the staff was very friendly and the pub had a great atmosphere. I can highly recommend the black bells. we had the pleasure of staying for the night. the room was spacious, clean and had everything they needed. the bed was so comfortable I had the best nights sleep. thanks, jill, phil and the team. we will definitely be back"

"This used to be our favourite lunch spot until everything changed earlier this year. After a poor experience a few months back we gave up. However the latest reviews looked promising so we dropped in for lunch today. What a difference, lovely warm fire in a clean bar, clean tables, great service from the guy behind the bar and great beer. The menu is much smaller than before but there were a few specials on the board . My seafood platter was huge and absolutely delicious. Hubby had the corned beef pie on the specials and he really enjoyed it. Prices are very reasonable too. We were hoping they would be putting on a Christmas menu through December but apparently not. I hope they reconsider as the pub was always packed for their Christmas lunches. Let’s hope the new team remain and the pub can go back to a well kept traditional village pub."
