"We has a two day mid week break here between 14th and 16th of December courtesy of a Travelzoo deal. Given the generosity of the terms we weren't expecting too much, but were really pleasantly surprised by the experience. Despite outside temperatures down to as low as 11C overnight and a local outbreak of seasonal lurgies that meant that they were short of staff the welcome was warm and courteous. The Wynnstay appears to privately owned and this means that it packed with thoughtful and charming little personal touches. Real coffee bags and Welsh tea in the rooms, fresh butter on the table cut from an actual block, not in the usually ubiquitous individual foil packs. Catering here is superb. All ingredients are locally sourced and cooked to a uniformly excellent standard by a multiple award winning kitchen. I urge you (if you are either carnivore or omnivore) to try the chef's signature duck. Worth going back for on it's own, (and we will), but everything that we tried was of a similar standard. Wine is imported by the owner directly from single vineyards in Italy and is both very good and reasonably priced, not an equation that one comes across too, as was the menu, which meant the £30pp allowance we had with our deal went quite a long way . I loved the décor, not made over by some corporate entity, but clearly painstakingly collected and augmented over a long period of time and the Christmas decorations were lovely. There was plenty to do in the locale despite the cold snap. The town has some lovely shops pubs and cafes, small enough to walk around in an hour or so, big enough to lose an afternoon browsing and or indulging. There are plenty of interesting attractions in a half hour drive or so, including the coast and of course the local Welsh countryside is beautiful. All in all a real find of a place for us. It deserves to be overrun, but selfishly, I really hope it isn't. It really is a little hidden gem."

The food was excellent, service very good and there was a nice choice of Italian wines. Local mussels recommended as either a starter or main.

I had a fantastic Sunday lunch with three courses at this restaurant. The food was superb, and it's reassuring to see that the restaurant is performing well again. The meal was lovely, the service was great, and the price was reasonable. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Went for a meal and left after being ignored for 15 minutes. We were given a menu card but no drink order was taken then we sat around waiting for someone to take our order which didn’t happen. In that time the table next to us was served their food which didn’t look great so we got up and left. Disappointed as it looked like a cosy place to eat

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this restaurant. The beef was excellent and the three-course meal was great value. We have also enjoyed evening meals here in the past, with the Welsh lamb being a standout dish. The atmosphere is quirky and inviting. The only minor issue is that, like many places, they are short-staffed which can result in slightly slower service.

We had an excellent meal in a quiet and comfortable area just off the reception. Both the mullet and lamb main courses were excellent. The chocolate tart for dessert was very rich, but good - although it was too much for us. Our total bill came to £82, which included a pint of ale and a glass of wine. Overall, it was good value considering the quality of the food and service.

We stayed here on a 2 night dinner bed, breakfast and dinner allowance deal over Easter weekend. The staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble, breakfasts were great there were a couple of items missing but overall tasty and well presented. Dinner was great, all dishes were really tasty, the whisky soaked prunes for desert deserve a mention! We stayed in the 4 poster room would definitely recommend an upgrade lots to do and see in the town and nearby, would go again in a heartbeat. Staff were great, renata served us a dinner and was ace, a fab lady served us at breakfast and dinner one night who was really enthusiastic. Young guy on reception really helpful when we had an issue. Great f...

Can’t say it’s the best place I e ever stayed. And for its price per night I was expecting a much higher standard of room and service. This place is tired and it’s website fools you into thinking it’s something it not. I’d rather stay in a premier inn than stay in this place again. The bedroom wasn’t clean the decor is god knows how old, the menu was overpriced and a limited choice and what was served up certainly wasn’t worth the cost. Steak and Chips with a bit of salad garnish for £25 !! I wouldn’t mind if it was a quality dish .. it wasn’t. And simply don’t get me started on the service. I stayed with a friend who took another room and he was equally disappointed as he was embarrassed as...
