"We heard that the pub had re-opened, so decided to visit for my husband's birthday and had pre-booked. We arrived and were seated at our table, at no point were we told or made aware that there was an issue with lack of food. It was left to the poor waitress to tell diners that most of the menu was unavailable, no burgers, chips, steaks, onion rings the list kept getting bigger and bigger as the evening went on (only 7.30 pm). We tried to order a burger, mixed grill, onion rings, only to be told they did not have them or a check would have to be made with the kitchen. After two or three choices being vetoed, we both went for the gammon, egg and fries (chips not available), ordering a drink at the same time. Half an hour later, we still did not have our drink, so my husband went up to the bar and they seemed completely oblivious to the drinks order, we did finally get our drinks a few minutes after that. Our dinner came out a short time after and it was very disappointing, definitely not Instagram worthy. A small piece of chewy gammon, one small overcooked egg and some very sad looking fries with peas. For two cokes, two gammon dinners and some halloumi fries it was just under £40, we did not bother with a dessert as the wait time was ridiculous for service. The tables in the restaurant are very close together in places and we could hear other diners, who were having the same issues as us. A family had come in at roughly the same time as us and had still not received their main when we left (they did not have starters). We still left a tip for the waitress, as I felt so bad for her, she was given the task of telling diners about the lack of food and was constantly backwards and forwards to the kitchen to check what was and wasn't available. If you don't have most of the menu, maybe close the restaurant and put a sign up to explain the reasons why, rather than leave it to your poor staff to take the heat. We were really looking forward to celebrating my husband's birthday at your pub and it was thoroughly disappointing on every level, we could not wait to leave, the food was certainly not worth the money paid."

"Went here with my family for dinner to celebrate passing my degree and wow it was a let down. First of all the service was just so slow. It wasn’t even massively busy but we just seemed to be waiting and waiting to order and then be served which wasn’t good for rumbling tummies! I also felt that the food was overpriced. £16 for a vegan Sri Lankan curry (which we noted was the same price as the chicken Sri Lankan curry which was swimming in grease (see photo and came with a little pot of rice and naan (GF bread for my mum is just crazy expensive. To compare, I just wrote a review for an Indian restaurant where I had the best curry of my life and £15.99 gets you poppadom and 5 vegan condiments, a starter, a curry and a rice/vegan(! naan which were all amazing and the portion sizes were huge enough to take leftovers home and have for dinner the next day! By contrast, we left the white horse having spent lots on very little and feeling rather dissatisfied. I had the harissa nut roast, which was a more imaginative main and nice enough but nothing to write home about. To make it vegan, you have to forgo the tzatziki sauce as well, which is the case with a number of the mains (only 2 are vegan as is, the rest are lumped within the vegetarian options . The sweet potatoes fries were good, but not exactly something special to the white horse!! My mum had the Sri Lankan curry which she said was “virtually inedible” due to the amount of oil swimming on it. She actually had to use a spoon and napkin to remove the worst of it off the top. It really was an unbelievable amount!! My dad had the meat free linguine bolognese. It was nice enough but mostly pasta, again a bit greasy and nothing special (there was nothing really in the bolognese except vegan mince and tomatoes . £14 for it was an absolute rip off for what you get, especially since he can make a much MUCH nicer one with red wine, mushrooms and garlic etc at home! He also cooks his with no oil, so it really isn’t necessary for the food to be that level of greasy! My omni sister and her fiancé had plenty of meat/fish options which seemed to be much more worth the price and just more... imaginative. Overall we felt the white horse’s vegan offerings were overpriced, overly greasy and unimaginative. We will not be returning. NB. The description above with vegan burger, vegan sausages and mash etc is outdated IG: pulsesandplants Updated from previous review on 2021 05 30"

"Afternoon Tea for 2 at 12:15pm We made a booking, paid a deposit and it was confirmed again the day before with an email. When we arrived the manager said he knew nothing about our booking, so nothing had been prepared. He apologised, and kept apologising. We were very disappointed as this was our first catch up in 8 years! The manager then went into the kitchen. When he came back he said could we wait for an hour while they prepare. He said there was a party of 50 people to cook for too. It was too late to go anywhere else. He placed us in a quieter area, offered us tea/coffee. We chose 1 tea and 1 black Americano. They came with 2 teas! Took one away and eventually arrived again with a coffee. The tea was not nice so it didn’t get drank. We ended up having to move to a different table as the smell from the accessible toilet absolutely stank when the door was opened. Eventually our food arrived. It was awful! The cheese sandwich bread was hard, the bacon sandwich was not that enjoyable, the chicken one was also not nice, the sweet potato one was horrible, soggy and looked awful. The scones were dry, clotted cream looked like it had seen better days. The small dessert ‘thing’ in a shot glass was disgusting, the cream ontop had already slid off onto the plate. The only nice thing was the very small chocolate brownie. We complained, the staff on the tills were actually very lovely and tried to help us over and over. Not their fault. They tried to reduce to bill, but not with much success. Only taking off £2 each! Then we reminded them that we’d paid a £10 deposit on booking, then they checked and said oh yes! (So there was a booking in our name after all! we were so fed up by then we just paid under protest and left. all in all it was an absolute farce. We both put all this info on their online feedback form, which promises to reply within 72 hrs. We have not heard anything back and it’s been 10 days now! We certainly would never recommend this place, especially Afternoon Tea. Appalling!"
