"Was initially shocked to see so many negative reviews for what I found to be an excellent pub, until further reading revealed that they all pertain to a previous landlady who sounds like she was a right piece of work if the accuracy of the previous reviews are to be believed. Fortunately our experience was more aligned to recent reviews post October 2019. Firstly it’s a cracking pub building. The original Victorian section is still in place with three separate small rooms arranged around the central serving area accessed by a corridor that retains a serving hatch. Still a very traditional feel to these rooms but the small bow-windowed panelled room to the right-hand side of the central entrance is particularly inviting. Then a more modern mainly flagstone extension section to the back doubles, if not trebles the inside space and, although lacking the character of the front section, is comfortable enough and contains a large flat screen tele for those wishing to view the sport. And then beyond this section is a very nice outside raised walled courtyard garden which was catching the mid day sun for our visit and has the benefit of being far enough back that any traffic noise is negligible. Secondly a decent selection of ales were available. The front bar supports four hand pumps and for our visit these were badged with Timothy Taylor Landlord, Totally Brewed Four Hop Men of the Apocalypse, Draught Bass and Oakham Citra. The Landlord was currently off so we went for the Oakham Citra which was on fine form. No hot food was available, but large cobs as I believe they call them in these parts were available from behind the bar and cheese board and pork pie platters were being advertised on a chalk board. We went for one each of these and they hit the spot completely. No better pub food has ever been devised than a substantial locally produced Pork Pie and English Mustard for soaking up a pint of English ale. With very friendly service levels from the team working the bar we enjoyed our visit here, and I would thoroughly recommend the slight uphill detour from the banks of the nearby River Trent to visit this one."

"Called in for a 'bite to eat ' Tues 2nd April 2019. Just a note they do not do food on Mondays. The tables now have mats in place and printed menus on the tables. The menu has also been altered. We only wanted a panini or sandwich, but they do hot meals which are nicely cooked and tasty. I had Tuna, Mayo, and tomato panini, 1) had fish finger sandwich and 1) bacon brie panini. The paninis have changed from a baguette type to a panini. (which is pointed out on the menu that it has been changed) It was explained to us that they have done this. I was expecting a smaller type as each time we visit I ask for 1/2 a panini because they are so filling. When it arrived it was as big as the previous full one. This place seems well supported and justly so. The staff who are always cheerful and very obliging. They chat to their customers and make each person feel so welcome . They do breakfasts, light lunches i.e. lasagne, cottage pies, breakfast wraps, sandwiches, paninis, cakes and scones etc., This new menu seems to have more choices and also extended times for serving the meals, I think they finish approx 3 pm, although I 'm not sure on this. Prices are very reasonable and meals nicely presented. There is a bar if you would like a pint with your meal or just visiting for coffees and drinks. It really is worth coming as we quite often do now. We have never been disappointed with our meals, whether just a sandwich or a nice home cooked warm meal. The staff certainly make this place even better to come to. If you visit Rolleston at any time it 's worth a visit here. I will be returning again very soon."

"We held a baby shower for my sister at Skinny Kitten and it was the most beautiful day we could have asked for. The Skinny Kitten has a warm and cosy feel to it, which makes a perfect setting for intimate celebrations. We invited 14 guests to the baby shower and we were given exclusive use of the ‘snug’ which allowed us privacy from other visitors without feeling shut away. We brought all of our own decorations (although this is offered by Skinny Kitten at an additional cost) and we were allowed to set up in plenty of time before our guests arrived. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much effort and they really helped the day run so smoothly. Leading up to the event, I had been emailing Steph to make all of the arrangements. She was super helpful and flexible when it came to what we wanted for the day. We opted for an afternoon tea which was delicious! The finger sandwiches were lovely and you could tell the bread was so fresh. The cakes were divine as were the scones and I was surprised there were any leftovers (but also pleased as we got to take the rest home)! There was one guest who was unwell and unfortunately couldn’t make it last minute. They boxed up her portion for us to drop by for her which was a lovely thought! We also had one guest who has a nut allergy and they catered for her, giving her own separate selection. All of our guests were so impressed and expressed how amazing the day had been, all of them saying what a little hidden gem this place is! All in all we can’t thank Skinny Kitten enough for the day, many memories were made and the attention to detail and the warmth received from all of the staff helped make this really special. Thank you again! We can’t wait to visit again with baby in tow"
