"Visited with a few friends as part of a dinner club. Lovely setting with a great ambience and welcoming staff. This is a restaurant that is clearly living in the shadow of its AA Rosette and is charging obscene prices for what I would class as average food. Pork Belly was the starter and to say it was unimaginative would be an understatement. A chewy section of pork belly was accompanied with a berry style compote and decorative swirl of mashed potato. If you’re after a crispy piece of pork crackling and a succulent layer of fatty pork meat then you’ll be disappointed. Instead you’ll be welcomed with a chewy section of pork that hadn’t been cooked low and slow, failing to render the fat and crisp the skin. The table then had mains of a burger and steak. The burger, whilst averagely priced these days, tasted okay and was well accompanied with classic burger dressings such as a slice of gherkin and some burger sauce. With it you get a poorly sized portion of chips that leaves you wanting, contributing to a very lacklustre plate of food. A small section of dressed salad leaves wouldn’t go amiss here to make the plate more presentable. The steak was a poorly selected cut of meat that for a whopping great sum of £32.50 left a lot to be desired. The chefs ability to perfectly cook this to the desired taste adds nothing if the cut is poor and the table found themselves with chewy sirloin steaks that were not on par with the fee demanded. Accompaniments are aplenty but if you want the privilege of adding a sauce you need to add another £4 to the price of an already expensive steak. The whiskey sauce was nothing more than a bland, off coloured bechamel with no taste of whiskey or mustard coming through. Certainly not a plate worth just shy of £40. The overall impression of the first two courses left the table in a position where nobody wanted any dessert out of fear it wouldn’t deliver. The staff and ambience are great but the food failed to deliver on this occasion. A shame for a restaurant that displays its AA rosettes with pride. The AA rosette clearly isn’t what it used to be."

"Spent £28 for a carry out meal for 2 on Saturday the 27th June 2020. The prawn crackers were excellent...in fact the best we've tasted in a long time. Started off with salted shredded chicken as a starter, which was okay, not the best we've tasted. Next up was the two main meals of Beef with peppers and Black Bean Sauce and Chicken with Cashew nuts. OMG. probably the worse, tasteless Chinese meals we've ever experienced. Total tasteless. Small pieces of beef in a watery gravy with a tiny residue of what was supposed to be black bean sauce. No connection between the beef and the watery gravy...think wee bits of beef and someone pouring Bisto over it and calling it Black Bean sauce. Honestly, it was that bad. The Chicken and cashew nut dish, was even worse. Half raw carrots in a watery, tasteless gravy with onions and cashew nuts swimming about. ERven in a blind tasting, you would be hard pressed to connect both dishes to Chinese cuisine. So, despite adding garlic, lots of soy sauce, satay sauce, fish sauce, still couyldn't raisze the two main dishes to an acceptble level. We stay 10 miles from the Lucky Star. So, you can imagine our dissapointment on how very unluc kyb we felt.. Can't undcerstand where the 4.5 overall star rating came from regarding this carry out outlet. Oh and by the way. We don't normally leave negative reviews on anything, but this was close to contravening the law on claiming thios was a Chinese dish. Sorry, but awful. First and last visit. Will stick to Elgin. in the future."
