"With restrictions eased it was a good time to visit family my Mum, older brother and sister in law and no better way to do that than a Sunday lunch but my original option appears to be closed so Tripadvisor gets a visit...with a search of eateries in and around the locality of the closed venue. Up pops this quaint riverside pub with great reviews(and a Facebook page) so due to the late hour I messaged them. The forthcoming reply was positive and a quick conversation with my bro allowed me to make a firm booking the next day. We arrived some ten minutes early and were shown to our table by an eager member of staff who quickly took a drinks order and on his return he took our order of Lamb roast and one Chicken. It wasn't long before large hot plates piled high were delivered to the table, meat aplenty, vegetables plus roast and boiled pots, a fluffy Yorkshire Pud and stuffing ball. I have always believed that food should be tasted before going anywhere near the cruet set and my judgement proved sound' as the food didn't need anything other than Mint and/or Cranberry Sauce...the Gravy was the perfect accompaniment. We followed the main course with a dessert x Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Fudge Cake and Rhubarb Crumble plus your choice of ice cream, cream or custard and this too arrived at the table in double quick time. The ale was also superb and if I hadn't been driving I'd have had a second but no chances taken! All in all a meal of high quality, served by amiable staff in an cosy bar setting, no rushing to clear for the next diners and with change from what's not to like? High praise also to the Landlady toiling away in the kitchen and to the kilted' Landlord, a decent chap who thanked me for not disturbing them with a call after closing. If you're going to be out Crowland way then this is the place to satisfy your hunger and almost certainly NOT only on a Sunday lunchtime having glanced the Specials' board. Thanks for hosting us, much appreciated by all."

"From my initial phone call to book a table for 5 people for lunch on a Wednesday, I was asked if there were any vegetarians among us, but I wasn't told that it was only a carvery on a Wednesday and that no other menu was running. When we arrived the bar service was slow, and there were limited number of large bottles of white wine available as per the wine list, so we just settled for anything that was available. (Although once in the dining room I did spot several on a rather large wine rack! My daughter asked for a Disaronno and coke, and just got a coke. The bar waitress did apologise and said that she usually worked in the restaurant. Finally when we got into the restaurant this is when we discovered that it was only a carvery. 2 members of the group had previously looked on the internet for a menu but couldn't find anything. The vegetarians were catered for with a creamy asparagus pie, but unfortunately my daughter is allergic to garlic and couldn't have hers, so maybe 2 items to chose from would be a better deal for us vegetarians, after all there were 3 of us. The selection of vegetables was great and we all loved the cauliflower cheese. The 2 meat eaters also loved their feast and said that the meat was cooked very well. On request we were provided with vegetarian gravy, but no one came and asked us if everything was alright, and the food wasn't that hot. We did all opt for a dessert, and the Rocky Road Cheesecake was delicious, however, the Tropical Fruit Sundae was a bit basic with the use of tinned fruit cocktail. We were asked if we required drink refills or coffees. As there were no menus/information about, it was hard to work out the prices and we were all pleasantly surprised that the desserts came in with the carvery price of £9 again, we couldn't see any information anywhere to tell us this, and if you hadn't had a dessert (or a coffee which is counted as a dessert you might feel a little hard done by. I think the key to our experience, and indeed this review, is the lack of information, but the carvery itself is good value for money and worth a try."

"We arrived here as we were passing through from Whitby to our home in Norwich. Its was 2.15pm on the Sunday before Christmas when we arrived so first question was are you still doing food After some deliberation we were told no as they had cleared everything away. They must have been chomping at the bit at 2pm to do this we thought. Never mind can we have a sandwich or a bowl of soup or anything as we were weary travellers. No, no and no were the resulting answers. We ordered a drink at least it was refreshment. Whist imbibing we looked around. The wall lights were the type that had 2 bulbs but each one only had one squiggly energy saving bulb making them look very out of place. We realised that the lack of bulbs was responsible for the dire dark atmosphere in the bar. Even the bar itself was very dim and not very appealing. So here we have a pub that looks great from out side but is dreary inside and the two staff don 't care if your hungry or not. With pubs going out of business on a daily basis maybe if this one goes the owners may reflect and think why did they not offer what the customer wants. OK you may not be able to offer Sunday lunch all day (although others do) but why not sandwiches or other cold snacks? Why no mulled wine giving its gorgeous spicey smell? Why not a cauldron of soup with some fresh bread. Why not make the place look inviting? What ever happened to basket snacks ? quick and easy to make when your restaurant is closed. Pie and Chips maybe? The owners must be rich enough not to need the money if so why not buy some light bulbs !I cant comment on what the food would have been like although in the pubs defence the diners were giving it praise. Its no wonder people go abroad where service is 500% better than the UK but come on guys this isn 't rocket science your turning money and custom away"
