"Having been a favourite for years today was extremely disappointing. Having travelled some distance for lunch I found the food on offer was not as appetising as in the past before it was a hard choice between the lovely offerings. I suspected there had been a change of chef correct! And some restaurant staff. I didn 't recognise my fish pie as such so left it. I was offered a different meal but declined yet was still charged. I 'd already said I would take another meal home to try later on, which I shall. My card was 'declined ' I was told and daresay the whole restaurant heard this fortunately I had another debit card with me. On phoning my bank no, they had not received a request for payment from the Oak room but had cleared a slightly earlier one from the bar for drinks and there was plenty of in the account ? Clearly the machine in the restaurant was u/s and the waitress, who smirked on announcing 'declined ' ,was still smirking when I took her to task for the way in which she mishandled the situation ie was rude and could have suggested taking the 1st card 's payment via the bar as before. What a shame, a favourite please gone down the drain regards both food and service. There 'll be no rush to return."

"Food on the whole was actually quite lovely. I was sceptical after hearing other peoples recent experiences but was pleasantly surprised. The only negative comment is that the boy who took my order over the phone seriously needs some customer service training. "We celebrate our wedding anniversary and stay at beautiful Bovey castle. I am impressed since the first time we drove to the entrance. Beautiful entrance in the middle of gold course. We originally looking for nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and stay at...the hotel and came across this restaurant. We hope could get a table on the night but the restaurant was fully booked. So we had dinner at the other restaurant and book our dinner for the following night. The dinner was impressive. Lots of food and very good services. The food presentation was interesting. I always love to see the food presentation as its one of my main task to check whenever I arrange wedding for my clients. Food presentation is a must and the taste as well. And the way the serve the food will also a matter to make us to feel more excited. The price wepaid for dinner are worth to spend. We’ve got a lot of food. From selection canapes, bread, sorbet and the courses meal. I suggest you to skip lunch or just have brunch, if you would like to have dinner here. You will not regret it. Restaurant staff also very professional. I enjoy fine dinning Restaurant also look good. We are very satisfied. I can imagine how guests enjoy their meal for wedding reception at this restaurant. It might be a bit slow from the kitchen, but I guess it must be because the cheff try to present the food as best as they could. For some people who looking for fast service, then you might be ready to be patient, otherwise you can go to fast food cafe . But for me who looking for good food and enjoy every moment with my husband, then little wait wouldn’t be a problem. I agree that the restaurant only accept limited booking to maintain the services. Good reataurant will not just accept walk-in guests. And good guests must know that good restaurant will work based on reservation and walk-in guests will based on availability. We are soo lucky as when we stay there, so we can get priority to book the table. The weather is nice. It allow us to explore the castle before we had dinner. Thank you for making our anniversary memorable. We definitely will come back."

"I would not recommend anyone to stay at here as we ended up sleeping on the floor. My family Booked on the 17 March to stay here on the 25th November 2023. After receiving the confirmation which wasn't correct we contacted the Inn numerous times to confirm the 2 rooms we had booked and the amount of people in our booking. i called the property 2 weeks before arrival to check this was all correct and they assured me this was. On arrival we was informed that they had a booking for 3 rooms instead of 2 which costed more than we could afford and was asked to split the 2 children up in different rooms. We stated numerous of times this wasn't our error and wanted to cancel the booking but the Inn stated we would have to pay full price for all 3 rooms even though we only booked 2 rooms. The Inn suggested that they make a bed on the floor for the 2 toddlers due to not having cot beds available for them. When we got to the room there was a small double bed and on the floor was 4 pillows along with 2 sheets and 1 duvet to make a bed which was horrific. Myself and my partner stayed on the floor instead of the toddlers due to this being very uncomfortable and not suitable for them. The Inn Manager was trying to be as attentive and accommodating as possible however the owners was very unaccommodating and had no consideration to the situation or sympathy we was put in even though this wasn't our error. i asked to speak to the owner on numerous of occasions and they would not speak to me just stated this is the case and we had to pay either way. I HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ANYONE ELSE."

"We are locals to this café and had never been there before, so we decided to try their Sunday roast. We are so glad we did. The service was friendly and quick. The kids menu options were also good. The roast dinners, both beef and pork, were exceptionally delicious. We especially enjoyed the individual cauliflower cheese pots and the generous portion of veggies. After enjoying the quality of the main meal, we decided to try some desserts, which were also satisfying with good-sized portions at a reasonable price. We will definitely be returning soon and highly recommend this café."

"Ruth and family have taken over recently and they clearly work really hard to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. We are a family of four and spent four nights there in two decent-sized double rooms on the first floor of what is an old...coaching house. Excellent value stay with a full English breakfast plus cereals each morning and a great base for exploring, at the southern edge of Dartmoor. Ruth, her son and his girlfriend were always on hand to help and also provide good local tips. Ashburton itself is a small town with a good selection of shops, cafes and pubs albeit a few had yet to re-open following the easing of covid restrictions. Good hospitality always makes a huge difference and the Victoria Inn has it in abundance."

"Went for lunch with a friend. First waitress friendly and polite, although we did have to attract attention when we wanted to order because all the staff were chatting and not paying attention to customers. Second waitress who brought our food over, literally rolled her eyes when I asked for a coffee. When she brought the coffee over, she just slapped it in the far side of the table where I couldn’t reach it so my friend had to pass it over to me. At the time we found it funny, but it’s pretty shocking service. Would I go back? Maybe, but not in a hurry…food was ok though…and the view is great!"

"Every school holiday I take my two oldest grandchildren to The country table cafe in bank street, Newton Abbot, Devon. We go there for breakfast. The service is excellent. Very quick and there is never a problem in altering the set cooked breakfast menu, eg one child likes to add hash browns to his whilst the other one removes cooked tomatoes but likes extra sausage. I usually have the vegetarian breakfast, also very good and enjoyable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The entrance is accessible to everyone. There are plenty of tables available. The only downside is that they do not have a disabled access toilet. If you ever want a quick and filling snack their cheese scones are the best I've tasted anywhere. There is also a very good selection of main meals or sandwiches. So whenever you're in Newton Abbot and need a very enjoyable freshly cooked meal I highly recommend The Country Table."

"Maybe it was because they were busy, but that has to be the worst food we have ever been served. The meal consisted of cod and chips. My wife and I were so disgusted by the food served to us we walked out leaving the food all bar a couple of chips. Firstly this is a diner and takeaway, the staff took the order and money for the food in the diner but then served the takeaway first leaving the customers in the diner waiting for ages. Secondly, when the 'Food ' finally arrived 'and in my opinion ' the cod was clearly cooked from frozen, barely warm, undercooked, very watery and of extremely poor quality. We walked out in disgust. As I said at the start it was busy, but that is no excuse for serving up food 'that in my opinion ' was disgusting. A real shame because the rest of our experience at the airshow was fantastic."

"I have to say we were extremely impressed with the venue, service and food. These days too as everything is so expensive the food was really well priced. We had our family Christmas dinner here and were a party of 19. We were seated in the conservatory area which was absolutely perfect for such a large party. The kids had plenty of room to play, we were allowed to let the children open their Christmas presents there it was a fabulous evening. I really would recommend this restaurant to anyone wishing to have a large family gathering and we will definitely be booking all of our forthcoming family birthdays, Christmas gatherings there in the future."

"I was recommended this amazing restaurant by a friend and it turned out to be the perfect rural pub. The friendly staff greeted us warmly and the menu offered a great mix of traditional pub dishes and more unique options, all expertly prepared by a talented chef. We enjoyed the delicious hake in tomato sauce and the gammon with fresh pineapple and egg. The homemade desserts were a lovely ending to our meal. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it was evident that the locals love this place. Although it's quite a distance from our home, we will definitely be returning for another memorable evening. Thank you to the staff for a great experience!"

"Don’t get me wrong... the food is still great. But the change of owners and change of process baffles me. They have gotten rid of table service and moved to ‘order at the bar’. That wouldn’t be so bad if all the staff mucked in and helped.... but there is one bloke behind the bar who insists on doing everything while the waitresses stand around doing nothing in between running food and drinks. He’s behind the bar doing everything by himself. Serving drinks Taking food orders Taking booking Answering the phone. This slows down the whole process having everything go through one person. We were stood for 10mins outside tonight as we waited to book a table and the waitress said he would be with us soon... but he was stuck serving an ever growing queue. In the current climate you would have thought table service would have been the better option. Such a shame. Food 10/10 Service 5/10 (compared to last years 10/10)"

"I have been meaning to drop in here for decades but never been the opportune moment. I was on my own today and had to stop and have food somewhere and this was on route. Ok, it's what you expect from a green king. Their menu is prety standard, nothing exceptional in that respect. Service was good and freindly they had a small but ok selection of beer. Food was served quickly and up ro scratch. It was quite empty, it was just before the holiday week though so maybee it gets busier later in the year. It did also feel like it was on the cusp of getting close to needing a refit or a spruce up, despite the large windows it feels a bit dark inside."

"This is the second time I’d got a takeaway for the family. The first one was good but sadly this was not so great. I had special fried rice and the duck and chicken (I think that was what it was) was laid on the top in large slices. All were completely dried out. I had to tear them by hand but gave up. The special fried rice was however lovely. My daughters chicken chow neon looked good but the first piece of chicken was a strange flavour and taste so she was reluctant to continue. My sons sweet and sour battered chicken was good and I the left overs the following day. Unlikely to go again in a hurry. Yes I could complain but we’d got home and really would take our custom elsewhere. We’ve yet to find a reliable Chinese takeaway; living in Paignton for many years we used one takeaway for nearly 30 years so the bar is high, Delivery was 1.5 hour wait and walk in was about 10 minutes. Felt it appeared a bit too quickly but I’m not sure how they prioritise. Maybe a one off but I’ll cast my net elsewhere in the immediate future. Good extensive menu and descriptions. Doesn’t appear to have the restaurant part open so takeaway only I believe."

"I ordered from here a few times before and had no problems, but I will not order from them again. the food arrived an hour after the latest estimated delivery time and the restaurant did not even give us an update. we have several. time ranked and it's just out. I appreciate that a Saturday night may be busy, but it is unacceptable that it should be an hour too late and not even send a text. When it finally arrived, no apology was given. After accepting the delivery, I opened it to discover that it wasn't even right! 3 of the articles we had ordered were replaced by something completely different! they save themselves the hate and order from somewhere else."

"Away for the weekend and staying nearby, allowed us to visit here upon recommendation. Fab service and gorgeous food that's been cooked with care and very well presented. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon was divine withe hollandaise sauce not being sickly strong. Tea lovely and large, no ridiculous little cups here whilst the wife reported her set meal/fry up was perfect and the coffee well flavoured. Highly recommended the food/drinks. This popular cafe will benefit from plans to expand the seating as its currently a first come/first serve basis and so seating, especially for families can be an issue"

"At last, just when we had given up on Newton Abbot food outlets we discovered this Thai jewel. We moved here nearly three years ago and have been disappointed with every Indian restaurant here (especially Ghurkha Chef) and sadly all Fish and Chips outlets none of which can compare with those in Torbay. But Pinto Thai was 'magic '. Proper chicken , nicely carved, fragrant spices, delicate rice, proper vegetables well prepared and cooked. Subtle flavourings. There were five of us really enjoying different meals and all of us so pleased that finally we 'd found somewhere we will return to in Newton Abbot. And, as a bonus, the meals were ready at the time promised, the premises were clean and welcoming and the staff were simply lovely. Pinto Thai is an example to other local restaurants of just how well things can be done. Kudos!"

"I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! Despite its small size, the food was incredibly delicious. I received a recommendation to eat here in Torquay on TripAdvisor, and so far, this is one of two restaurants we have tried. I highly recommend this place to everyone - it's a real gem. Trust all the reviews - the menu is limited but the dishes are superb. The owner and Caroline were the only staff members, but they provided excellent service. We tried the portobello mushroom and goat cheese starters, which were so good that we shared both. We also had the chicken supreme and chili beef from the specials board, which were equally delicious. I haven't had such tasty dishes in a long time. All of this cost us less than fifty pounds with wine. Thank you for the recommendation, and it was a pleasure meeting the lovely Caroline."

"This is somewhere everyone should try. The traditional pasty is probably, no definitely the best pasty I have ever eaten and I love a good pasty. I would rate theirs as far superior to any Traditional Cornish I have ever tried. I also purchased the standard Scotch egg as they have a variety of flavours and that too was outstanding. So if you are ever in Teignmouth do not miss out."
