"I went with my family to celebrate my daughter 's birthday for Sunday lunch. To put it simply the service was a set of disinterested errors whilst the food was good. Without the quality of food this would have been a one star review. This was simply a series of service errors from wrong drinks supplied to undercooked roast beef to surly short answers we 've run out of Worcester Sauce to dessert orders forgotten to no additional drinks offered and finally taking so long that we were at one point were going to leave without the desserts. We came in at 1:00 pm and left at about 3:45 pm and not through choice. At one point when they realised after we had asked several times after 40 minutes that the desserts hadn 't been ordered we requested again several times for the bill to come with the dessert and that didn 't happen. One of the desserts was missed with the order but we 'd given up by that time. At the prices we paid I expected some attentive service but there was little interest from the waiting staff. This is very disappointing and doesn 't do much to enhance the restaurants reputation. I asked them to get the General Manager so that he was made aware of how poor this had been. To give him his due he took the dessert cost off the menu but sadly his arithmetic was £5 short of dessert charges. I had a conversation with him and he realises that this really isn 't working as it should he 's only been there 2 months and has promised that it won 't be like that in future. I 'm not sure if that matters too much to me as I 'm not sure I want to go back!"

"Visited The Volunteer pub again, but this time in the Evening, on Saturday 2nd of April 2022. After my previous visit I was sent a Voucher, which was wholly unexpected and a lovely gesture. When we walked in I noted that the pub was extremely busy, which in my eyes is a good sign, in these economic times. The welcome was just as warm as before. However, I did wonder if it wouId change once I explained that I had a voucher. I need not have worried. Starter I decided to try the Cauliflower in Batter. It was absolutely delicious. Partner tried the Goats Cheese Salad and once again he did not share! Guess that says it all. LoL. LoL. Mains Once again I had the Vegetarian Burger. It arrived nice and hot with the chips exactly how I like them. Partner had Grilled Chicken with a side of Peppercorn Sauce. He does love his Peppercorn sauce. His main came with a braised baby Gem lettuce and Vine Tomatoes. He said it was very good. He would have that again, in a heartbeat. Would we visit again Yes, most definitely. You cannot beat the quality of the food. I have decided next time we visit, I will create a Meze by ordering various things from the lovely Starter Menu, including the Goats Cheese Salad plus bits from the Side Dishes and not forgetting the amazing chips. That will be my Main while he sticks to his Chicken dish. Before you ask, No I won 't share."

"We visited the Happy Wednesday buffet and enjoyed the delicious food and good value, although the high prices for a pint of lime and soda (£6) and 2 poppadoms (£3.20) were a bit surprising. The food was excellent, but the cost of the extras seemed a bit steep. The service was good, and the atmosphere was also enjoyable. Overall, the meal cost between £20-30 per person."

"Food was great all really tasty. However the evening was a little let down by the welcome by the lady on shift. As we walked in no hello or smile from the lady working on Wednesday 5th April with blonde hair. She didn't smile the whole evening and was very blunt with any communication she made with us. She looked miserable and quite frankly like she didn't want to be there I think she needs to work on her customer service. Everyone else was lovely and very friendly thanks"

"Lovely staff, always greet me with a warm smile. Have the Pret subscription and visit most days. Always take my own reusable cup and staff always remember just how I enjoy my coffee! Large, spacious shop with plenty of seating. The building itself is in need of a little TLC- leaks are apparent when there is heavy rain and toilets are often out of use. It’s a great shame that dogs will no longer be able to sit in from 1st April 2023."

"We have been dining at the Rowbarge on and off for years, as our son lives nearby. It has always been a delightful place, but our visit yesterday was truly exceptional. My husband, who has coeliac disease, was amazed by the extensive selection of gluten-free options on the menu. Almost every item was gluten-free, and the waitress was very well-informed and attentive to his dietary needs. We commend the Rowbarge for their thoughtful consideration towards those with gluten intolerance, who can become very ill from consuming gluten. We have long believed that there is no reason why food cannot be made gluten-free, and we are grateful for a wonderful experience. We look forward to returning soon."

"I went to this restaurant for dinner with my son, as we were craving a banquet. I noticed on their website that the price was £14.95 per person, but on their window it was advertised as £16.95, so it seems like their website needs to be updated. The service was good, we were attended to by a young waiter, although we were the only two customers in the restaurant. There were plenty of takeaway orders being picked up though. The food arrived quickly and was tasty, although my Lamb Balti had an excessive amount of onions. I would have preferred more sauce and fewer onions. Despite this, I would probably come back again in the future."

"Lovely place to stay, right on the high street and 11 min drive to Highclere (Downton . Hotel is as expected old, has creaky and wonky floors which us expected but adds to the charm of the historic place. Inside it has been made to look modern and have all the mod cons. Charming bar area and separate dining area. The food was divine, a nice selection on the menu. Also a secret lit up garden out the back to sit on a warm day or evening. Sofas inside are lived in and some carpets but again adds to the charm of the hotel. Depending on the room you book the sizes vary. I had a single bed,large room for one, tv. Hangers in the wardrobe. Tea and coffee and plenty of milk. Bathroom is divine. Shower and bath and BIG fluffy white towels that go all the way around your body lol The staff are very friendly and accommodating. George head of maintenance checked something out for my parents and came found us to tell us all sorted and we ended up having a very interesting chat about his life etc. Martin on bar/dinner service so polite, nothing was to much trouble and very smiley. However the other girl on dinner service and the lady on reception (at 6.30pm on 14th aug also very lovely and helpful. I would recommended staying at this charming hotel"

"Four of us decided to have dinner at The Cross Keys last Friday evening. Two of us chose burgers, one had a Prawn Salad and one the Chicken Caesar Salad. It has to be said these are not just burgers They are amazing! Probably the best burgers we 've ever had. The salads were also absolutely amazing. They were large, the prawn salad had masses of prawns, the chicken caesar plenty of nice crispy coated chicken. All in all, the food was much better than you 'd expect a pub to produce and in our opinion represent really good value for money, given the amount and quality. Highly recommended."

"Gorgeous Birthday Afternoon Tea! What a fabulous treat, everything homemade so delicious especially the scones sandwiches! Such a pretty tea shop beautifully decorated. Our table was gorgeous with pretty teacups saucers all laid out ready to use. Staff very welcoming smily. We visited the Ritz in London 2 weeks ago told the staff this was so much more enjoyable! "Weekday visit. A Thursday. Late morning. Two ladies serving. Short-staffed as tables full of unwashed cups and plates where people had been sitting ..but when trying to clear up...oh ..it was literally as if they were throwing ceramic mugs into a ceramic sink. Smash, crash, bang. All customers stopped drinking coffee, neither of the two ladies seemed to have any clue about the noise they were making. The couple nearest us were aghast with the noise and shook their heads bowing not to come again. No care or apparent knowledge re: noise or how heavy-handed they were. Awful experience and female manager there can be quite blunt. Not a nice experience. Won't be going back..shame as coffee was good."

"This place is a lovely little Gluten free Cafe tucked away in the alleyway opposite St Nicks Church. If you have a gluten Allergy, this place is perfect, they are very careful with cross contamination issues, with signs on the door requesting that customers do not bring in any opened food. I actually feel safe eating here because of that!! they really take it seriously. It's also a Christian bookshop with lots of gifts and trinkets on sale too."

"It was a dark and stormy night. We we’re heading to meet some friends and had been travelling for some time when the car started to falter. The wind was howling and pushing the car from side to side the rain was so heavy the wipers couldn’t clear the screen quick enough. So I decided we needed to find shelter. In the distance I could see some lights so we headed towards them. Managing to nurse the car we pulled up at a pub called the Travellers Friend. The wife and I put on our coats and rushed through the front door to seek comfort. I pushed the large wooden front door open and it creaked with age. I couldn’t see anyone so I called out hello? There was no immediate reply. Suddenly there was a large clap of thunder followed by a flash of lightning that lit the room momentarily and by the bar I saw a tall slim dark figure. Can I help you sir said the man. Yes a table for four please two pints and two glasses of wine I said. Certainly sir he replied. Our guests arrived and we dined on some of the best restaurant food I’ve had in sometime, fantastic portions, perfectly cooked and served by friendly staff in lovely surroundings. It was an excellent meal and extremely affordable too. The End Next episode: The Travellers Friend revisited."

"Perfect café for a light meal, or a full scoff. Mrs had toastie chips and I had beef stew and dumplings off the Specials Board. Both meals excellent. Was welcomed in and seated by Rose, who was pleasant, engaging and informative without being intrusive. Mrs had diet coke and I had a pot of tea (2 tea bags, so NOT weak). Top up jug of water comes as standard and was impressed to get 6 cups out of 1 pot. Took a take away ice cream cone for pudding good choice of flavours (although my particular favourite Rum Raisin was absent). £35 was excellent value. Great café."

"We were staying at my sister's place decided to go to the pub for dinner, curry night was mentioned and to be honest I was dreading the usual dreadful standard pub curry, however..................It was absolutely wonderful! I was drinking Timothy Taylor's Landlord (never had...a bad pint of that) and had the taste for it so a curry was a good call. The poppadoms came first and they were the best I've ever tasted honestly, better than all the Indian restaurants I've ever been to I've visited a few! Then came the starters a mixture of chicken pakora, onion bhaji Bombay potato, all fabulous, intact the onion bhajis which I would never usually order (had a bad experience once with one) were beautiful, light perfectly seasoned. On to main course, I had butter chicken (but could have had prawn/veggy instead of chicken) which was as good as it gets on my list of best curries I've had the pleasure of eating. All in all a top night apart from I wasn't allowed the usual dozen flaming Sambucas as would normally accompany such a feast! Only one minor point was the pub was a little chilly in the room we sat in, but I suppose it is January and it was freezing outside."

"Used to be so good. Ordered on Friday at 5.30 pm. was told 1 HR wait. Ok. After 2 hrs we phoned back to be told the driver was on the way, 45 mins later the food arrives. Cold. Very cold. Chicken Jalfrezi meat was not good quality, spongy in texture, like defrosted meat might taste. Saag Paneer was ok. Tarka Daal was very good. Lamb Bhuna was nice too. Poppadoms crispy. Peshwari Naan burnt. We were aware we'd have to wait an hour(reasonably for dinnertime) but almost 3 hrs is the longest we've ever waited. Phone responder could have said it would be quicker to collect, but I expect our food was en route to a few addresses before it reached us. We understand places get busy, be sensible with delivery times. encourage collection if really busy, otherwise people may not return."

"Amazing food, everything is made fresh and is cooked to either mild, medium or hot at your request. Hands down the best authentic Indian restaurant I have been to. The staff are very informative, friendly and passionate about their food. If you are ordering a takeaway you will need to order when they open at 5 for a later time, to allow for the fresh food to be cooked. But I recommend eating in the restaurant. Try the cauliflower starter! Amazing"

"I really want to say only good things about my experience as this place is local to Us it’s good to keep places in business…but sadly I can’t. We arrived for a 1pm booking found out that the restaurant wasn’t full … waited for 45 mins for our starter to arrive…so then 1.45… to eat everything by 2.30!…. everything then had to be pushed back… we then had to ask the taxi firm to collect Us later than planned well, later than we were told we had to vacate the table by! …so, in order to eat our paid for in advance Christmas meal INCL the service charge !…£25,, which I still find rude baffling!! we then missed the Kings Speech…. Just a tradition in our Family to do but …missed it. Oh, then I knew I still had the drinks to pay for which was ok… what was NOT ok was being charged an extra £38 for service charge on a bottle of water that , yes , was opened but not ‘serviced’ to Us ie poured…. And the champagne.. I didn’t pay the charge……. The food was ‘good’., although not worth over £200 for two people. I do realise that it is still a young team getting to grips with things I believe the kitchen team is about roughly around 6 7 months but no, disappointed with the whole scenario to be honest. I think what saddens me is that , that was my first Christmas meal that I haven’t cooked in over 40 years was enticed into it by my Family saying it would be lovely for me to be ‘waited’ on for a change!!… I really wouldn’t have cared what it looked /tasted like but it was the long wait inbetween courses we had then the service charge that made me feel ill…"

"Had not ordered from here before, but choices were limited on a Monday night, but I was not disappointed. Easily ordered online at their website, then got a discount for collecting the meal. Was still hot by the time I got home, and all I can say is FANTASTIC! Great tasting food! Really the best I've had in the area. We had Rogon and I tried a new dish, both were excellent. Getting flavoured naan bread can be hit or miss a lot of the time, but the peshwari naan was brilliant, so tasty. The best food we have had in a long time and this will be where I go from now on! Also friendly, speedy service!!"

"Saturday night, 8pm, two of us in here. Its a shame. I can only hope the majority of people were having a take out. This is a lovely little restaurant. The food is cooked to order, fresh and some dishes we have not had before. One of which we ordered, agra lalbahar. Chicken lamb prawn Spiced up in a sauce. Very nice The staff are very pleasant and you want to give them business. All our food was great tasting and hot. The Downside was, even being empty, the music played into the restaurant was only put on after us being there about 20 minutes and was through a phone, as suddenly stopped every time an order came in. Definitely going back to support them. Enjoy"
