"Haven’t visited this place for a long while and unfortunately after our experience I won’t be rushing to return. Such a shame as previously had really good times here. We arrived and the staff on the bar were to be fair very helpful and saw to us straight away, we informed them we had a table booked and she took us straight through, telling us we could place an order for drinks at the table and that it would be table service. They didn’t actually come to take our drinks order for over 20 minutes. Finally took our drink order and then had another 25 minute wait until the drinks arrived! In this time we had placed our food order and it was only that I asked the waiter taking the food order where our drinks were that he went to check. Otherwise, who knows how long we would have waited! Water was requested and arrived room temperature with red hot glasses straight out of the dishwasher, the result being Luke warm table water. No ice was offered. The food was VERY slow to arrive, we only ordered one course but we waited 50 minutes from ordering to the food actually arriving. And when it did it was Luke warm, and tasteless. I had the lentil and mushroom tagliatelle which was a tiny portion at a whopping £16, Luke warm and with absolutely no flavour at all. The other main ordered was nut roast, which looked nice however the feedback was that the nut roast was like packet sage and onion stuffing mix with some nuts sprinkled on top. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. Food was overpriced, Luke warm, small portions, long waiting times and seriously bland. Someone needs to buy them some herbs and spices and get some depth of flavour in those dishes!"

"Where to start, after all our party ordering our food and paying and at least 15 minutes later to be told three of us who'd ordered scampi that they had none, so we chose again. At least a further 15 minutes later I was told what I'd chosen was not available so had to choose a third dish bearing in mind some if our party were already eating their meals ,but after expressing my annoyance I was refunded the cost of my meal with an apology from an embarrassed member of staff. The rest of the food eventually started to come to our table but not at the same time infact some of our party had eaten their meal before some even had their food. The new waitress on shift had very little knowledge of the food or table layout because she took our food to the wrong table, definitely needs more training. Some of our meals were cold and items missing from meals, no sausages on a mixed grill, no poppadoms with the curry, onion rings on one meal but not on the other exact same meal. Some ordered dessert one of which should have had strawberries served with it but apparently they had none. A member of our party complained and again the same embarrassed member of staff who was very apologetic dealt with the situation and refunded the cost of two items. A second bottle of white wine had to be substituted for rose as again they had no more white wine by the bottle for sale. We were extremely disappointed with both the food and the service with only three people working front of house and clearly a lack of communication between the kitchen and staff taking food orders and numbers of dishes available. As a group we all agreed we will not come here again."

"We spent three nights near Pontfadog in late October 2019 while on vacation from the US, and spent two of those evenings enjoying dinner at The Swan. If we lived around here, we would gladly join the ranks of the obvious regulars that inhabit the bar area. Even as visitors, we were warmly welcomed. The bar isn't huge but is well provisioned. There was an adequate selection of beers and ales on tap, including several local and regional choices. The wine list also focused on quality and value rather than extensive selections. The food choices ranged from your pub classics like fish and chips and shepherd's pie, but also included a variety of special dishes. Everything we tried was spectacular, but the absolute highlight of our meals there were the pies. There is always a pie on the menu, but what's in the pie changes week to week. On the night, the pie was smoked pheasant and leeks. Absolutely amazing! A generous serving, it still left room for a bit of sticky toffee pudding with custard. Rich and moist and swimming in a bath of caramel and custard, astonishingly good. A group of ladies at the next table were watching our pudding come to the table, and were trying to be inconspicuous as the watched and listened to us rhapsodize over the first few bites. But I noticed that several of them also ordered the pudding! This is a wonderful little place, where even complete strangers feel like locals. The kind of place where people talk to each other from table to table. The kind of place I wish we had around the corner from our home here in the US."
