A great evening and excellent menu so well presented, very much spoiled by flies next to the UV light. Guests left and wine was full of flies. Requested some compensation for lack of care and disappointed the owner refused. Not worth the trip.

We were a group of 6 plus a 7 year old. This was a fantastic dining experience. This was one if the best meals I have had in Italy. The food quality, preparation and presentation was phenomenal. This restaurant has a beautiful country setting, delightful service and amazing food. I highly recommend Calagrana.

The atmosphere was wonderful, the views were perfect and the food was exquisite. Quite honestly the best meal we have eaten in Umbria! We waited 5 days to get in, and it was worth the wait. We had read the review that someone said they would fly to Italy just for this one meal. We agree and I will return to Umbertide just to go to Calagrana. We went to dinner twice and had to force ourselves to order something new. Our favorites were the tuna veal salad, asparagus with fried egg and truffles, and basil risotto with tuna tartare. But what made it more special was Sophie, the chef's daughter who made us feel we were family friends eating in her home.

Staff and owner speak excellent English and Italian. Wonderful service. Restaurant also serves adjoining hotel. If possible eat outside with a 180+ terrific view of the valley. Seating inside maybe for 30? Reservations needed. Be careful with directions – it’s a bit hard to find. Cost for two people was €145 for two antipasti, two primi, two secondi, two dolci, many glasses of wine, one grappa. Lunch lasted from 1:00 to 5:00. Best dishes were antipasto of assorted fish. Primi of shrimp risotto(shrimp in small pieces, no shells etc), Secondo of guinea fowl with mashed potatoes gravy. Dolce of chocolate cake and Hot Cross bun(may be seasonal with Easter). My wife and I were staying nearby earlier this year, exploring the area in advance of a family holiday in August with our children and grandchildren to celebrate a 70th birthday. We came for dinner on a mid week evening, and enjoyed the food, wine, relaxed ambiance and attentive, but unobtrusive, service from the Anglo/ Italian owners and their family. We were blown away by the wonderful cooking, and the choice of dishes, many of which used local seasonal ingredients an asparagus, egg and black truffle starter in particular was sublime.
