"I never ever write a review but this is a brilliant pub/bistro and hotel. The staff have been amazing, so friendly and helpful. I'm only staying two nights but wish I could stay in this little gem for longer. I've just had black pudding scotch eggs for starter and the Black Bull burger. FIRST CLASS. The rooms are spotless and the shower is hot and REALLY powerful. As I said before, I never write reviews but I had to... So impressed! You won't be disappointed. Thanks black bull"

"We visited on a Sunday after a wet windy dog walk , we booked last minute, they were more than happy to accommodate us and found us a dog friendly table in the bar . We had the Sunday roast, it was absolutely delicious one of the best I have had , great potion size too , we orderd extra gravy, pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese, all of which were lovely . My only disappointment was I had no room for dessert next time we won’t order sides , the atmosphere was very friendly and cozy , great service too. We will definitely be back and would recommend . "I went there for Christmas dinner with my partner and we had a horrible experience will never go again. My partner had steak which was lovely but the chips, onions, sauce and other accompaniments were cold. I had traditional turkey the only edible thing was the carrots and turkey! The roast potatoes were hard as rock and seemed either overcooked or cooked from frozen. The parsnips I couldn’t cut, cauliflower was hard and the pigs in blanket was so hard it couldn’t be cut. There wasn't even a yorkshire pudding. We complained just about mine and they brought me a new one but that was worse. In the end I only ate a few carrots and some turkey. I complained again when he came to ask how it was again. He said he would ask manager to come over, he took 15/20 mins in meantime my psrtmer had eaten his steak and I was just sat there. The manager offered to let us have our 1 drink each free plus one more round. I was grateful they had offered but it had still spoiled my Christmas and I was emotional as I work every year as a nurse on Christmas Day and cook when I get in (for 40 years) this was the only time I had been out for christmas dinner. It took 50 mins to clear our plates. I just wanted to go home but we had dessert to eat so I had that it was nice but was described as Eton Mess but it was just a big meringue with a dollop of cream on and about 2 strawberries chopped up no sauce at all. The server was nice but we couldn’t get anyone’s attention to get a drink even though we were the last sitting and the kitchen was closed, it wasn’t that busy. I am disappointed and even though they tried to help me it wasn't enough, when we paid £90 each. They warm everything up in the microwave I think apart from meat and fish that’s what it tasted like anyway."

"We booked a picnic for 2 on a day when the pub was participating in the Help to Eat Out Scheme. When we came to pay, we were told that the picnics did not have 50% off. This was not mentioned when we booked over the telephone or on their website. The lady at the till was not bothered that we had been misled and couldn't really be bothered to even apologize. The picnic was nice but not worth £15 per person and we would not have booked if we had known it was not half price. Very poor customer service."

"We were celebrating an 80th birthday party and there were around 16 of us. Had to wait an age for the food to come and we had 5 hungry young children with us. One of them was served last and was upset that everybody else was eating! Some of us ordered the fish chips and peas and an extra side of curry sauce which arrived 10 minutes after the main dish (having asked where it was on several occasions) which had gone cold by this time. When it did arrive, I'd have been embarrassed to serve the stuff as it was so thin and watery tasteless. It was the first time we'd been to George's having heard good reviews, but it must have gone way downhill recently because the food definitely wasn't up to scratch. As we dined on two separate tables we asked that the bills to also be separate. Not individual, just separate for each table. The staff made a complete cock up of the bills which was also unforgiveable as there were at least 3 waiting staff and the place was nearly empty. I can now see why! At a cost of around £280 (No alcohol, just soft drinks and coffee) I can definitely say, NEVER AGAIN!"
