"We visited the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary when on a trip to the area recently. The person who took our booking was really warm and friendly, noted that it was our anniversary and led us to expect that we were going to have a...really special experience. This was not to be. On arriving at the restaurant we were offered the choice of a drink in the bar first. Wanting a full evening's experience we accepted, only to be ushered into a small quiet room with a drinks cabinet in the corner and asked what we wanted with no sight of a drinks menu. The person serving us was cold and disinterested. She stared at us blankly when we tried to make conversation. She had little to say when we asked about a local gin on the menu and she made no effort to make us aware of anything special on offer. It was a missed opportunity, as we were out for an occasion and willing to spend money to celebrate. No sense of occasion was provided, no questions asked about us or why we were visiting. We were really disappointed to find out that the tasting menu we had specifically visited for stopped serving at 7:30pm. Nothing was written on the website about this, nor was it mentioned when our reservation was made. It seems a very early time to cut off your signature offering. Our food orders were taken in the bar and we were left sitting awkwardly in the bar for quite a while, with no explanation of whether we would be eating in there or shown to a table. We were later shown into the dining room which was completely lacking in atmosphere. It was so quiet that we found ourselves whispering to each other. It was not a warm or welcoming space at all. We got the sense that we were the only diners that weren't guests of the hotel. It was so lacking in atmosphere that we could hear everyone else's conversations around us including the couple next to us who were complaining about their meal. The service felt very rushed with no space between courses. We were the last to dine (we booked for 8:15). We got the feeling that the staff wanted to get us through our meal and out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. We found our waiter a bit patronising. The starter was nice but we found our main course very small and a bit bland. The food wasn't very warm. It's the sort of menu that sounds great on paper but doesn't live up to expectations. We could have had another drink in the bar but by the end of the meal we just wanted to get out of the place because we felt so uncomfortable. It's a shame, as with the right atmosphere and service we'd have happily ordered more drinks and stayed on. As it was, our food was served to us so quickly that neither of us had finished our first glass of wine before we'd had our dessert. We weren't enjoying being there and we were glad to leave."

Definitely recommend the eight course taster menu with the accompanying wine. The food is of highest quality and totally delicious.

A very good lunch to celebrate our 49th anniversary in these difficult times. Service was excellent, although we were not checked on as often as we would have expected and the food did not ‘wow’ as much as usual. It was all very good but...just lacked something e.g. the thyme foam with the beef dish was a bit flavourless, the tomato starter was nice but ordinary. Maybe it was because we the only people lunching in the restaurant. It will not stop us returning but a another missed opportunity to impress might make us think again.

Had afternoon tea with a group of friends. Most had a cream tea. A few of us had a cheese' tea instead. The scones were rather lacking in cheese which was a bit disappointing, but still very good scones. An excellent choice of different teas...and coffees was avialble with a pot each. Afternoon tea was served in the Library. A beautiful room and we had the area to ourselves. Covid precautions all in place. We were able to have a stroll through the lovely gardens before tea and sat outside admiring the views before going into this magnificent historical building. Staff very friendly and efficient.

Had Sunday lunch green today, main course of beef was superb, as was dessert. However my first course could have been hotter, I did complain, they brought me a new dish. Still not a lot warmer, serving dish was very hot, but the bisque in...it wasn’t. I told the waitress, she informed me the chef was happy to serve it at this temperature! Well I’m a chef myself, had a fine dining restaurant also, No I don’t want a soup that’s boiling, but my dish would have been better a few degrees hotter. To me it was almost as if the very hot dish had to warm the soup. Service as usual was very good, in a beautiful setting. We will be back, but hopefully with hotter soup!

this manor house has seen better days and the employees have also clearly. the atmosphere is restful Gothic and involuntary. I spent a few minutes walking around the floor and almost lost my way back into the dining room and was from. a hospitable tells that when they are here, they never leave that was immediately amusing and easily creepy. in portions are too small, spicy and aromatized are confused, and our desert of meringue was dated and extremely shiny with the consistency of razor foam and tasted mostly sugar. When I asked my opinion about the desert, I was told that it was one of their most popular decisions. (pictured with a spoon and then left) it seems to be two dining rooms, and...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
