"Grand Tea (GT a travesty: our setting not nice, an alcove off a passage, 2 adjacent small round tables, no table clothes etc. A lady (proprietor? Waiter brought our GT I’m bemused disappointed, here’s why (NB: sizes are my estimates : sandwiches 1 each x 4 fillings bread drying out/sparse fillings/bland. Duck parfait 1 each size £2 coin strong/bitter foul. Prawn 1 each crispy/tangy nice. Parmesan wheels 1 each tiny/dull. Macaroon 1 each lovely. Fruit pastilles 1 each small disc bland jelly. Goats cheese 1 pot 50g between us – tasty.Carrot cake 1 slice Mousse 1 slice 3” x 1” Why 1 slice of each? Asked lady if a mistake, she turned sharply snapped “they are to share!” Really? At £20 a pop each we get 1” x 1” carrot cake mousse, say no more! Scones 1 each good but why all the icing sugar? Jam nice Clotted cream plenty, lacked flavour. Milk 100ml per pot of tea, not enough, asked 3 times for more, ugh! The menu items online in house for a Mill End GT cost £19.95 per person, we booked for 3: I see no mention of sharing items ambiguous rather evasive.Booking was uncomfortable exacerbated by the 25% deposit. I asked about stairs dining room was suggested – thoughtful, until we passed it going to the alcove. I find Mill End tranquil but the lady host seemed rather brusque leaving me feeling uneasy. The quality/quantity/value of GT was poor overall I would NOT recommend it. I only left a tip hoping the waiter might benefit as he looked a tad worn out."

An irate stressed and extremely unprofessional waiter unfortunately ruined the evening and ensured we dined out the following evening.

An all too brief stop but the Mill End is a lovely hotel with friendly staff that make you feel relaxed. It’s always good, although sadly rare, when your expectations are exceeded.

Eaten here on two occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed the food with a variety of flavours combined with the main dish. The deserts have also shown great imagination and have been delicious.

We have stayed here quite a few times now and each time it gets better. The rooms are very comfortable with excellent facilities. The staff are amazing, very helpful and professional. The food is first class, lots of variety of breakfast choices and Dinner in the evening THE BEST. Looking forward to our next visit. Well done to all on such an excellent experience.

The menu featured four main dishes, but only three of them were actually available. This was quite disappointing considering we had made a reservation two weeks in advance. It was my partner's birthday meal and we were both looking forward to trying the missing dish. Unfortunately, we were informed that it would not be available just 10 minutes after placing our order.

My goodness! What a delightful meal we had here last night. We live nearby and had guests staying with us and we were having difficulty finding a restaurant open for dinner on a Tuesday evening in Winter, until we remembered this charming hotel. From the kind welcome, the drinks, menu reading and warming fire in the lounge, followed by the classic, simply ambiance of the restaurant, the friendly and efficient staff to the truly wonderful food, the whole experience was faultless. We will be back, regularly. Highly, highly recommended.

My family and I visited this restaurant for a family member's birthday celebration. Overall, I was pleased with our experience. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the Cream Tea was delicious, with plenty of clotted cream and jam for everyone. However, I encountered an issue when I needed to change my son. I was informed that the only changing table was located in the women's restroom, which made me feel unwelcome as a father. Although the staff were kind and made sure the restroom was empty before I went in, this experience would deter us from returning in the future.

We spent four nights at this hotel/restaurant and the main criticism was the limited dinner menu . The pork dish was good but you had to pay extra for vegetables and at one meal the new potatoes definitely tasted re-heated. I am sure this restaurant was fine for a one off meal but not for a stay of over two days. Sauces on the food were too plentiful and strong. Puddings were fine as were the breakfasts. I am not sure how a vegetarian would have coped as the options were even more limited. Beds were lovely and comfy in great surroundings and the staff were excellent but a few extra options in plainer food would have made this place somewhere we would come back to.

My partner and I dined at this restaurant twice during our weekend getaway. While we enjoyed our stay at the hotel, we found the food to be a bit underwhelming. The staff were fantastic, but the wild mushroom gnocchi was extremely salty and almost inedible. We understand that seasoning is subjective, but it seemed like someone had made a mistake or hadn't tasted it before serving. We mentioned this to the wait staff, but didn't receive any follow-up. The fish and chicken dishes were decent, but nothing exceptional. It would have been nice to have another vegetarian or vegan option on the menu. On the bright side, the dark chocolate delice dessert was the highlight of our meals. Overall, it w...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
