"Located in the small village of Shap, this restaurant had posted hours of opening at 4:30 pm according to the internet. However, we discovered that they were serving take-away at noon, with the dine-in option only available after 4:30. The fish was fried to perfection with a delicious batter, accompanied by generous portions of chips and tasty tartar sauce. We also tried the onion rings, which were excellent. Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth the drive out of the way for a delicious meal."

Fish and chips was exceptional and staff very welcoming. Everything you want from a quality takeaway. We have visited many times and always guaranteed and consistently high quality. Thank you.

The cafe had a restaurant ambiance, but the prices were higher. When our food arrived, we requested sauce and were informed that we needed to purchase it at the counter. This caused our food to grow colder. Overall, we were not impressed at all. Speisekarte ansehen

My wife and I visited this restaurant on a busy evening and ordered takeaway fish and chips. However, there was some confusion with the order when the server tried to add extras, which made the payment process a bit frustrating. Additionally, the fish and chips were not as good as we had experienced in the past. Overall, it was a slightly disappointing experience.

Fish and chips is expensive everywhere. That’s a given these days. But the fish I had was so chunky and the batter so fresh tasting that I really enjoyed the meal. The chips were delicious too with just the right amount of crunch. Shap always had a reputation and I think it is maintaining it as it was as good as I have ever had here and I’ve eaten here quite a bit over the years. Speisekarte ansehen

Read so much about the chippy online, awards etc. We arrived Friday, and as our tradition, went to local chippy for dinner. £30.80 for 2 large, greasy fish, chicken chunks (nuggets), large chips and portion onion rings, not to mention 20p for paper bag to carry it (bags in Glasgow are free if your buying hot food takeaway) would I return to Shap chippy? No way, only here till Monday, but when in area again we will go elsewhere for our takeaway

What a find this was. Spontaneous family meet up and as a veggie a tad nervous for a chippy. What a wonderful surprise then to find this hidden gem. Veggie options to boot and what a tasty selection there was.. dplo try the samosas.. really lovely place and despite being near closing time nothing was a problem. Family focused and service was impeccable. Really friendly, amenable and helpful. Well worth a detour from the M6 for this wonderful spot. We will be back..

"We had a disappointing experience during our stay. The bedroom was quite cold, and despite asking for the heating to be turned on, we had to sit in our coats. The bathroom was freezing each morning, and the dining room didn't offer much relief either. The heating was activated for just one hour, which meant the radiator was cold again when we returned to our room. Their cost-cutting measures significantly impacted our enjoyment. We raised our concerns multiple times, but there was no one available when we settled the bill. At £100 per night for bed and breakfast (totaling over £200 including dinner), it was frustrating to be so uncomfortable. Another guest mentioned they had complained about the heating during their previous visit, only to be told there was an ongoing issue. It seems they simply won’t turn on the heating. We won’t be returning, especially since it’s quite a drive to get into town. Regarding the room, we were assigned an attic room (Room 8). It had many steep stairs and low headroom in places. While the bathroom was nice, it was also freezing. The towel rail was pointless since it was stone cold, and my husband had to skip his morning shower due to the chill. We ended up moving to Room 7, which was smaller but slightly warmer despite having a cold bathroom. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly, and the lights were all or nothing. The next morning, we moved our belongings back to Room 8 since they finally decided to turn on the electric wall heater—which they could have done from the outset. It only took the chill off for a little while. On our last night, we experienced a brief boost of heat, but it only lasted an hour. When we returned after dinner, the room was already cool again. As for nearby activities, there’s a park across a busy road, but everything else requires driving to reach shops and restaurants. Safety-wise, the hotel faces a main road, and there are very few parking spaces available (around four); otherwise, you need to park on the main road. Walking to town is possible, but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes downhill. In terms of food and drinks, the breakfast was decent. When asked if we wanted toast, we received just one slice on the same plate as the cooked breakfast. After asking for more, we had to wait a while before we were given another slice. Dinner was acceptable but nothing to write home about; it felt overpriced compared to the excellent authentic Indian restaurant we found in town, which served great food at better prices and opened at 5 PM. Overall, I'd recommend bringing warm clothes for both the bedroom and dining area; we even saw another guest sitting in her coat the entire time."
