"I write this review as a lover and ambassador of the anchor. I still have hope that one day hopefully sooner rather than later) changes will be made to enable me to champion this establishment once again. The anchor for me was pre-pandemic) a hub,...safe space and local for Henley newbies AND regulars. You got to know the landlords and meet Henley’s finest that had also sniffed it out as the place to be! It offered a sense of community and regular friendly faces that I hadn’t experienced elsewhere in town. It feels different now, reasons listed below: 1. You close so early people can’t get into their flow of conversation and let their hair down through fear of hearing “last orders at the bar” …. Before 10am sometimes earlier) 2. You have nibbles on the menu but when you try to order it’s always met by being told, we’re closing soon OR we’re not serving today, so all you get if lucky) are some crisps or nuts which personally aren’t for me) 3. The smoking area… it’s a garden, why can’t people smoke? You used to be able to do this so it’s odd that now we can’t? Anyway, I will always be pro anchor, I just wanted to share some feedback as I do love the joint and it will always have such sentimental value to me. It just hasn’t moved in line with my personal and friendship needs. Which makes me very sad."

and wee were good as it was eating. the problem of getting into the pub. there are three doors. you have a handle. turn the handle and press the door or the bell on the handle like many customers. it is the left, most door facing the pub.

We had an idyllic sunny evening in the garden. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier. We both had lamb chops with Greek salad which were very tasty and good value for money. We will definitely be back next time we visit Henley. Having seen a...display of Mike Hailwood photographs on display in the bar my husband enjoyed reminiscing with his sister who owns the pub. We will definitely be back next time we visit Henley.

that's an excellent henley pub. on the back there is a small parking space and a good garden on the back of which some are covered. the staff are welcoming and friendly and provide a good service. eating is excellent with a good selection of choices including meat and vegetarian. dogs are allowed both inside and outside. we ate here and had only drinks. the bar area is attractive, with low and high tables. a good place to visit.

We visited this pub yesterday, a first for my husband and I, my son has been there on numerous occasions. We were delighted at the menu as it was not all “traditional” pub fare. Our food was delicious, the staff were very attentive, and they...even altered a dish for our three year old granddaughter. My husband had the venison and walked away from the pub very satisfied. Thank you to all of the staff for a delightful visit. When we are back in the UK again, this will be a must to revisit. Lindsay

I went to this pub for a quiet beer with some friends and met the best two barmaids I have ever had the pleasure of being served by. Their chat and knowledge of the surrounding area and the local beers which was so interesting. It’s...so refreshing meeting locals who are passionate about their area and really made me feel welcome. I would recommend this pub experience to anyone in the area. I did not have the pleasure of trying the food but would imagine it’s second to none. Thank you Antonia and Kiki for making my pub experience 10/10

Great customer service, very nice comfortable back garden, excellent food generously served, well presented. You can eat in the back garden or inside. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Or joyful if you are in the pub! Handmade food, menu plus specials. Some French food like rabbit,...beef bourguignon, Dauphinoise potatoes and much more. Multilingual waitress and very knowledgeable about the menu. Nicely decorated. Friendly local pub with a great choice of beverages. 1 minute walk from the beautiful river Thames and park. Dog friendly. Family owned.

while we went to pub a series of years, we were never in the position to enter, and we were abandoned! we had the fish cake that was not prawns and full of white fish with spinat under creamy...Mash and the fish and chips that were fresh, light teig and crispy. the entire menu was good and so cheap. best served an apple crumb with crippled as desert. hooray! so many chains and 'popular' restaurants have terrible dessert menu without a crumb in itself and seem to be a reflection that was great! the staff was beautiful: helpful, timely and welcoming, so we will return!

Although the website shows pictures of a delicious Sunday Roast, this was not available, when I told the waitress how disappointed I was she came back and said she had checked the website and couldn 't see any pics of Roast dinners, which is absolutely wrong,...one to argue with a customer and two she obviously didn 't look properly. Sp I opted for the steak but they didn 't have any even though it was on the specials board. I ordered the scampi and it was obviously supermarket frozen pack and a very small portion, too many frozen chips. My husband 's cod was greasy and tasteless. Another member of my family had the venison which was good. The toilets were disgustingly dirty and the outdoor...

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"
