The Anglers Retreat

Thank you Pierre for hosting our reception for my Aunt's funeral. Food was nicely done, room was very pleasant.

This was a lovely pub which served superb food.unforunately no longer.Sunday lunch cold,frozen food.dont waste your money. So sad to see this decline

Last Sunday, we decided to try out this restaurant for a bite to eat. Despite its unappealing exterior, we took a chance and entered for a late lunch. To our surprise, it turned out to be an amazing place for a Sunday roast. Speisekarte ansehen

Not actually terrible, but also not great. Waiting staff who never (ever) scan the tables or go beyond order taking. Food which is OK but not great. If they are aiming for young families, they might get away with it, for a more discerning clientele, no chance.

We approached this restaurant last Sunday to try to have a bite to eat, but the place it wasn't very appealing but We were adventurous and decided to popped in for a late lunch, and what a surprise it was when we went in an awesome place to have a Sunday roast

My friends and I went to the Retreat for a Christmas gathering. Great food including a delicious vegan burger, friendly service and a lovely Christmassy atmosphere. Definitely visit again with a small or large group or friends so good to have a decent place that can cater for both! Would definitely recommend. Speisekarte ansehen

Went today for fathers day early dinner. The pub and atmosphere is very nice, staff are friendly but had to wait a long time for orders being taken and food arriving. My dish was terrible and I should have sent it back to the kitchen and ordered something else, but didn't want to kick up a fuss as it we were celebrating and I had a baby with me. Looking back, I wish i had. The cocktail i had was over priced and terrible too.

We decided to give The Retreat a ago for a Sunday lunchtime drink and eats as we hadn’t been there in a longtime. Unfortunately first impressions were not good as the pub was cold. We only wanted something small to eat but they don’t do anything apart the Sunday roast menu. The pub itself is nice inside but absolutely no atmosphere, and just too cold to enjoy the drink we had, and I don’t think playing some very depressing jazz music helped. It looks like the pub had lost its identity (the French bistro is no more) and felt soulless, which is such a shame. I really hope they can go back to basics and make the pub great again.

Our fried chicken was served cold and soggy, the Camembert was also served cold and still in the shop wrapping! In addition to this it was tiny and came with 1 slice of bread that was toasted on one side, we requested more bread when the Camembert was placed on the table (before realising it was cold) we were then informed there would be a charge on £1 “but we can then give you loads” in which we agreed but it never came! The bar staff were all stood behind the bar chatting and nobody even came to see how we were getting on with our meal. The rest of the food came in very small portions considering the price!
