"We walked into the George totally drenched, muddy and dripping wet during a walking weekend. The team at the George (Frances, Ellie and Debbie) could not have been more welcoming. Food and drink was superb as we dried out beside the wood fire. Unbelievably they even offered to post back some excess gear we were complaining about carrying with us. Above and beyond, what a great pub run by staff who really care. Service: 5 Location: 5"

"This place doesn't live up to it's reputation unfortunately. Went for a meal Thursday evening, and the place was dead. I thought then, this is a bad sign. I ordered the belly pork with mustard mush and braised red cabbage. The mash tasted like it was microwabable mash, there was no flavour is the braised red cabbage it was just sweetness. My fiance had the pie if the day (which the waitress wasn't even sure if they had a pie of the day on? It was mint and lamb. His pie was tiny and not presented well at all! Literally just a square of pastry plopped in top of the pie mix. There was hardly any meat and the gravy was instant gravy. My daughter had the Mac cheese. I'm sorry, but what they served it in looked like a cat's dish and it tasted of nothing. By then my fiance and I decided not to bother with the deserts but my daughter had vanilla ice cream. She got one scoop. Very disappointed. Next time, I think I'll stay at home because my partner and I can cook better than that with our eyes closed and the portions are bigger and cheaper."

"I initially loved this place, but after years of being a customer, the owner refused to honor a voucher given to me as a wedding present before the national lockdown. When I tried to discuss this, the owner responded with unprofessional, sarcastic, and antagonistic language. While I understand that 2020 has been difficult for the hospitality industry, it has also been tough for consumers. By not honoring the voucher, they have lost my business and potential future income from me. The owner challenged me for not using the voucher during their takeaway service in lockdown, not realizing that I was trying to minimize unnecessary contact due to caring for vulnerable individuals. I have always had great experiences at The Giant's Rest, whether it be Christmas Day dinner, family gatherings, or relaxing Sunday afternoons after a walk with my dog. However, I am extremely disappointed in the owner's behavior today and will not be returning or recommending this place in the future."

"Food was really good and tasty. Waitresses wasn’t sure what I meant by gluten free but I asked her to check and she did. Front of house staff let the chefs down. Service wasn’t great, maybe just understaffed for the day. We had to ask for pudding menu, and three kids desserts wasn’t brought out so had to ask for them. No spoons were given to eat puddings so again had to ask for them. I asked if we had to order at the bar but it was table service. Could have done with maybe another 2 checks throughout our meal. One being during main course and would you like any more drinks, as would have definitely had another round. Slow service that let the food down. I would go again though, as maybe it was a one off on that day?"

"I’ve been to this pub a few times and I finally got round to writing a review. I mean it when I say that this is the best pub in Sussex, it has everything you’d want, a traditional pub style, lots of parking, amazing food and lovely staff. My latest visit was as a group of 12 people for a friends birthday and our servers Lisa and David were great very attentive and made us feel very welcome even on a busy Saturday. They never got impatient with us even when we were splitting the bill 12 ways or getting indecisive when ordering food. I cannot recommend this pub enough, the menu is huge with amazing specials every time I visit with traditional options as well as lots of unique options, everything I have tried in my 4 or 5 visits has been delicious. The pub is also surrounded by lovely countryside so there are plenty of options if you want to go for a walk before lunch."
