"Honestly, from the moment we arrived, barring in mind we had booked (3.30pm) we felt like a nuisance. Felt we had been a pain to book so late as as soon as we sat down they was wanting our orders, ok we get it, last...table and you want to get it out but we felt extremely pushed. We had an 18 month old and felt that didn’t help as we kept on getting glared at from the older couple behind the bar(I assume the landlord/lady) yes he was making a bit of noise but what baby doesn’t and nobody around seemed to have an issue. Food ordered (no lamb; ok it was later in the day) food was lovely. Must admit, the sizes were very generous too! No complaints there. It was just the hostility and bluntness of the older two. And then to top it off when paying, I apologised for any noise my son made to be greeted back with, yeah leave him at home next time! Avoid if you have kids as it isn’t very family friendly. Working in the industry I feel these two need a course in how to welcome the public!"

We have visited several times recently and always had excellent food and service. The portions are generous and food very tasty.

They were busy earlier in the day when we were only there a few days. The Sunday lunch roast beef was a nice medium and plenty of it and the veg and yorkshire pudding was excellent. A local pub as they used to be...

Six of us had a lunch on New Year’s Eve and really enjoyed our time at The Green Man. The staff were welcoming and friendly , giving excellently service. Everyone enjoyed their choice of food and we would definitely return. We were not rushed at...all even though we were at the table for 3.5 hours.

The worst food ever-all 4 of us agreed-appalling! Two of us had the chicken and leek pie-the pasty was truly like rubber-I can only think it was heated up in the microwave! My wife had macaroni cheese-how can that go wrong-she just couldn’t eat it-beware...the offers as we thought that were more like the left overs!!

Have visited on a couple of occasions for food, both for an evening meal and for lunch outside. Food was great on both occasions, it is very good value and a wonderful place to sit outside on a sunny day for the afternoon! Great proximity...to some lovely local walks too. The cheesy chips are fantastic! Some of the staff could be a little more welcoming and friendly.

My wife and I popped in hoping to get a table and I honestly thought I had dog poop on my shoes judging by the look of disgust the waitress gave me! She put us on the smallest, most rickety table right in front of...a red hot radiator, even though there were other tables free. After about ten minutes, we asked to be given another table as the heat was unbearable. Mediocre meal followed. Staff just totally disinterested. Shan’t bother going again.

First evening visit, usually visit a few lunchtimes a year, same good quality tasty food real ale as always. For me it's worth going for a slice of pie (shortcrust pastry) full of meat served with veg mash/chips but enjoy a range of...their other meals too and everyone I've been with have enjoyed the food too. Nice feel and setting to the pub with seating in front garden. Prefer country pubs there's only a small selection of pubs I would recommend to people and this is one. Sheffield Park Bluebell Railway just a short drive away too if want to make more of a day in the area.

Had Sunday lunch here a few times, always liked it, but our last visit was the best yet. I had the roast pork which came with a deliciously rich cauliflower cheese (which wasn't even mentioned on the chalkboard, if I had that on his...with chips every day of the week! The roast was tasty and tender, like my oh- Rostbeef. I assume they buy places in their food like most, but I think a lot of it is also homemade. They don't make a big deal about it, just like they don't advertise the flower cheese, but it definitely makes The Lunch of the Greens Man's is a cut above.Service was fast, friendly and professional, just what you want.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
