"Stunning pub stunning location! I used to work nearby (from September 2013 to February 2017) and I would always look forward to lunchtime visits here in the summer. I’m told it was common for the production team filming nearby episodes of Midsummer Murders to drink here, and I can see why! I have lots of good memories with former work colleagues here. Highly recommended"

"Made a visit to The Angel after establishing that it was once again a restaurant post Covid. The reservation system is a little outdated as there's no contact number and communication is only by email. On this visit the food was very good but not outstanding. It would have been a pleasant experience but for the atmosphere inside the place, deathly quiet. What service we received was fine, quite friendly when in operation but attracting attention was a challenge. Our orders taken, our food delivered but no casual visit to ask if things were ok or to see if we needed anything. This isn't helped by the fact that diners are seated in different rooms within the building but bearing this in mind perhaps the staff should make an effort to move around restaurant to check in with diners more frequently. Overall the experience was pleasant, the food good, the deserts superb, however for the price we paid I would choose a more relaxing and warm dining experience, available at other high quality restaurants in the area, in favour of The Angel."

"We enjoyed a Sunday roast beef and chicken, maple ham, confit chicken and apricot terrine, and a cheese soufflé. For dessert, we had Madagascar vanilla crème brûlée and pistachio soufflé. The food was outstanding and the presentation was fantastic, earning the chef a perfect 10. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very friendly. I highly recommend this place if you want to enjoy delicious food in a welcoming environment, just be prepared for large portions. Parking was ample and there was a large selection of vegetarian dishes available. Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend the Sunday roast, cheese soufflé, and pistachio soufflé to others. The price per person was around £50-60 for lunch."

"We received a warm welcome and decided to order the Sampi and the fish and chips from the extensive menu. It was a nice touch that they offer half portions, as sometimes you don’t want a large meal in the middle of the day, but we ultimately opted for the full portions! When the food arrived, I initially thought the Sampi portion seemed a bit small, but everything was well-cooked, including the chips, which were beautifully crisp and tasted fresh, not overcooked. The person with me ordered the fish and chips, which were a decent portion featuring a lovely thin batter and crispy chips. She chose to go with the "inherited" option instead of the "muddy heirs" that she would like to replace. One small detail I appreciated was the use of a ketchup bottle rather than the tiny packets that are often found in pubs nowadays. Overall, I would highly recommend this pub. It’s a beautiful old building full of character, with a warm welcome and great pub food. There is also a pub garden at the back for outdoor dining."

"A very cute little cafe with a good atmosphere. But slightly overpriced and pretentious. For example we ordered the “banana loaf stack” for £12.50 and it was one slice of banana bread with cream on top? We had some problems with our order and the wait staff were really nice about it , the chef however was quite snappy and abrupt and snatched the plate off me when I said it was the wrong order. We were served the wrong meal, which is fine and it happens. But because of the snappiness they didn’t listen to me as I explained that they served bacon to a Muslim family and the whole dish would need to be remade due to contamination. As a result, my brother was really upset and it kind of ruined our meal as they then brought out the same plate of food with just the bacon removed, which is quite insensitive. If someone had a nut allergy, this wouldn’t have been okay, and it’s the same for us. Perhaps it was my fault for approaching both her and the waitress at the same time, instead of seeking the waitress alone, but her snappiness lead to the order being wrong again, so , it is what it is."
