"A friend from Kilmarnock had constantly told me that I needed to try the Wee Train in Galston, but it just happened to be in a area I never really find myself in. After a day out in Lanark, I had planned to eat there, but the kitchen of the place I had planned was closed for the day, so decided to make my way back to Ayrshire, and while getting into the car I recalled that I would be passing by Galston, so perfect chance to head to the Wee Train. Lovely old style village pub that has been done up in a way to give it a cozy setting, but keep its old school charm. Staff are super friendly and will go right out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Not the biggest menu, but more than enough to find something for your taste, and they do a excellent daily specials menu to select from. Had the Haggis Scotch Egg as a starter and the Wee Train Burger as a main, along with a pint. All freshly prepared in no time, and really tasty. Regret putting off coming here for so long, but its worth going out of your way to visit here for a good meal."

Was exploring the town after buying a house here and decided to take my brother here for lunch. The food was amazing. The service was amazing, and the entire feel of the place was great.

From the moment we walked into the bar at The WeeTrain, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff was polite, friendly, and engaging. The food was delicious and came out promptly. I highly recommend paying a visit to The WeeTrain.

What a disappointment, had really looked forward to the meal however it wasn’t worth a fiver never mind £55p/p. NO welcome drink, NO tablecloth/decorations, cold food, no veg with turkey, the salmon got a pig in blanket and a Yorkshire pudding?!

Visited her with friends from work and was not disappointed. This was my first time and had been recommended from another friend. The portion sizes were great, service was fab, reasonably priced and the food was delicious! Would definitely go back with my fiancé. Speisekarte ansehen

Was in Galston to buy something and what looks like a one horse town in middle of Ayrshire found this wee pub. Lovely coal fire burning, gr8 food, gr8 friendly service, good sized portions which were thoroughly enjoyed. If it wasn't so far away would definitely go back.

My family and I had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. The menu catered to all tastes and every meal was delicious, tasting like restaurant quality. The staff were very welcoming and we had the pleasure of meeting the lovely owners as well. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.

Myself and my partner visited here yesterday for lunch as we were staying near by at Arranview. The lady who served us and is also one of the owners (Gillian i’m sure her name was), was so friendly and welcoming. The food was honestly fab! My partner is still going on about the thai coconut curry today lol. So glad we decided to pop in here and will def return. Speisekarte ansehen

Delicious lunch with a tasty steak pie topped with flaky puff pastry. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, the mashed potatoes were creamy, and the boiled potatoes were great. The Merlot served by a charming young lady was excellent. The sticky toffee pudding with sauce and ice cream was incredible. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience that I highly recommend. Thank you.

Table for four was booked for today, yesterday, an hour or so after our Bar Luca trauma. I’m optimistic and saw this as a palate cleanser. It was. Staff were wonderful, efficient, and attentive. Food was very good. I could go into detail, but as all four meals were excellent I feel that would be over egging a tad pizza ‘make’ your own); steak pie, chips and veg; macaroni cheese and chips; and fish and chips with mushy peas. Followed mains with cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake, all with varying combinations of ice cream and cream. I recommend The Wee Train to anyone looking for good food at fair prices. Four mains, three puddings drinks £63 tip.

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

"The Stables Bistro is located on Dumfries House estate, next to the café and a 5 minute stroll from Dumfries House Lodge. At the time of our visit it was only open on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday lunchtime and therefore to avoid any issues we reserved in advance when we booked a room at the Lodge. The setting is unusual in that the tables are arranged within the “stalls” of the former stables although thankfully they have long since been “mucked out”! The decoration is plain. Our table for two was accommodated in one of the stalls with another couple’s table and there was plenty of room to spare. There were a few groups occupying some of the other stalls giving each party a private space and providing a good atmosphere. There was no dress code and most guests we saw were “smart but casual”. There was a choice of 4 items per course, all freshly prepared to order. I felt as if we could easily try any of the choices however for starters I opted for salmon pillows (stuffed with a trout mousse) whilst my wife had breaded stuffed wild mushroom with salad; for mains I had hake on a bed of spinach assorted vegetables, my wife had chicken with chive mash and vegetables and to finish we shared millionaire shortbread and then the Scottish cheese board. The dishes were all well presented, focussed on quality rather than quantity and were very enjoyable. With only a short stroll to our lodgings we enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine with the meal at around £18 each. Service was pleasant and efficient and our bill was £80, ex tip, but including the wine. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would go back when we next visit Dumfries House. There is a toilet for disabled guests on the ground floor and the main bathrooms (very well maintained) are upstairs where there also appears to be a small function room."
