"we have booked them for us a few, and two friends so a table for we had a warm reception, immediately shown on our table, ordered drinks and delivered menus. the starter and the main was very good that the sweet served. with the dead was bad. only swede and carrotts. the puddings were poor. it was simply tasteless that no one really enjoyed her. jam roly- poly was very dry. the environment was very nice and was cozy, although it was pretty busy. at the end of the evening there was a small problem that could easily be avoided. the four of us have decided to approach the bill rather than complete who had what exactly. we both thought that the other had paid the strange, and unfortunately all of us and the bad waitress missed this and underpaid by the a few minutes later the waitress was told to turn back to our table and ask them about the bear in thinking that the bill was in excess of it could have been advisable to turn a blind eye on this instead of embarrassing customers and employees. the poor girl was even more embarrassing when she received the very reasonable tip. everything in a very pleasant evening, but not the best."

Several menu items not available. Lack of staff could not cope well with number of customers. Vegetables with steak pie were very cheap and nasty merely carrots and swede very poor chefs choce. Needed decent veg. Chips were cooked just, but looked anaemic and...needed to be cooked for longer. They were also tasteless . Not over impressed. Great shame.

We visited for dinner in a large party. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but we were surprised that they were not wearing masks. The service was efficient and the food was delicious with generous portions. We were also surprised that there was no ventilation...in the room we were in and the windows were running with condensation which made me feel worried and uncomfortable.

We ventured out with our week old baby for a Sunday lunch (which was a little ambitious but we had a lovely time! Staff were so helpful and friendly. Helped with a suitable location for the pram (note: it is a bit difficult going...through the front door. Quite tight for a pram! But back door easier) Food came quickly and was impressed with each element, meat especially was really good! Offered extra gravy which my husband is always keen for! We will be back to try the pie!

I have lived several years in houghton and last night visited the three jolly butchers to meet a friend for a drink. the woman who worked behind the bar was, I can only describe as sullen and rude. fortunately she smiled and laughed. the people who are obviously more than me, but grumbled at me and not as much as a please, thank you or what you want me to ask myself why I use this place more and more. at so many places I was treated in this pub. when I moved to houghton, I thought how positiw had such a beautiful looking pub, but throughout the time I lived there, I can count on a page that was a number of visits a positive experience.

I have lived in Houghton for several years and last night visited The Three Jolly Butchers to meet a friend for a drink. The lady working behind the bar was, I can only describe as sullen and rude. She happily dispensed smiles and laughter to...the people who obviously are there more often than I but grunted at me and not so much as a please thank you or what would you like I came away asking myself why do I keep using this place. On so many occasions I have been treated that way in this pub. When I moved to Houghton I thought how positive that it had such a lovely looking pub but in all the time I have lived there I can count on one hand the number of times visiting has been a positive expe...

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
