"The food was absolutely delicious, so a big thank you to the kitchen team. However, the service left much to be desired. It seemed that the staff were either poorly trained, untrained, or simply indifferent to their roles, with the exception of the person in charge, who was very organized and efficient. When we arrived for our pre-booked meal, we had to wait 10 minutes because the staff were having a meeting. Another staff member arrived late, and the meeting leader informed them that their tardiness was unacceptable on the restaurant floor. After that, we waited 15 minutes for our drinks, only to be told that they didn’t have the ingredients needed to make one of our orders. We have dined at many Village hotels before and have always enjoyed our meals, but unfortunately, this time the experience was marred by staff who appeared disinterested or poorly trained. I would like to extend my gratitude to the kitchen staff and the manager for their efforts in accommodating us. We will pass our feedback along to the hotel once we receive a call back from the manager."

Used to be a proper restaurant with a separate bar. Now been mashed together and in trying to be everything does nothing well. Average pub menu in a brightly lit environment doesn’t make for any intimacy. A totally forgettable experience

Terrible, booked a table online and when we arrived it was full as the match was on. We where then told our reserved sign had been removed by someone. Finally seated 45 mins later for at best! pub food and twice the price. This used to be an experience coming here but now just feels like an expensive sports bar. Wont be returning.

Instead of apologizing for the wait and recognizing that being ignored can come off as dismissive, he immediately went into defense mode. This approach is not suitable for someone in the bar or restaurant industry, as his customer service skills are lacking. As a black card member, I won’t be returning if he is on duty. I believe he would benefit from retraining by management or moving to a role that does not require direct interaction with customers.

Although the food was very nice, we had reserved a table and when we arrived it was close to the bar. We were mid way through our meal when a large party arrived and literally gathered around us putting things on our table passing drinks over us. I was furious as it was our Anniversary we were not just there for a few drinks in a bar. It totally ruined our evening so instead of staying in the restaurant we went back to our room. It was very disappointing.

We were seated next to a large family group who were offered a detailed explanation of the meal options. However, they chose to stand just a couple of feet away from us for about 30 minutes, leaving us with no sense of privacy at all. Our main courses took about 45 minutes to arrive, but they were actually quite enjoyable. The two young waitresses were helpful and friendly, which was a plus. Unfortunately, the desserts appeared to be leftovers from breakfast, so we decided to skip them.

I would recommend for the general menu and for watching the footbal and/or sports, we however where there for the Sunday carvery, the new format is horrible as are the newish selection of starters, unless you like oily fish or avocado, also the carvery buffet is gone, and now replaced with options of the menu, and the desert selection was terrible, the ice cream station has disappeared much to the kids disappointment, along with all that the cost has now increased, wont bother with the village as a Sunday destination going forward.

Overall disappointing, website said it would be traditional Sunday roast so we booked a table. However we arrived to a noisy pub full of Liverpool fans watching football, our booking was acknowledged but no table was ready and we were led to a sticky messy table with mess on the floor too. We were further let down when told they weren’t serving Sunday roast! Service was basic, several members of staff but they looked tired and hassled, so it took a while to be served at the bar. We understand it’s now more of a sports bar but it would be nice to have an area that appeals to a broader customer base and not just noisy football fans, as it was difficult to enjoy our dinner. On the plus side the...

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Village, everything was good, however we had huge problems booking a table. There was no answer on the phone number provided, and the number provided on the booking confirmation was invalid! We could only book online for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people, but not for 5 as we wanted. We booked for 4 then had to go there to request adding one, only to find out that we were the only booking they had anyway! Apparently the phone is in the office which is neither manned, or heard, when the restaurant is open. I’m afraid The Village are going to lose a lot of business if they don’t put this right quickly. Such a shame as everything else was perfect.....the food was really g...

"I’ve been coming here for years. Always nicely busy, a comfortable place to be and great produce used on their very extensive menu. A place I always felt I’d recommend to anyone. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. We arrived after the lunch rush, just after 2.30. Nobody to greet and seat so after a few minutes of standing about we decided to sit down at a free table. As we sat down, a waitress came out of the kitchen so I asked if it was ok to take the table we had. A cursory grunt... We were quickly informed that only ‘the bacon to the bagel’ on the menu was available as it was after 2:30. Five or six choices off a menu that must feature over thirty dishes on a SATURDAY. We made our choices, service was slow, but the food when it game was good (as it should be for a smoked salmon bagel and a sausage butty, let’s face it you’d have to try hard to mess that up) My friend then decided on dessert and coffee. We tried for quite some time in a now mostly empty restaurant to catch the eye of our waitress and when she passed and I asked politely if I could order a dessert, I was met with an impatient ‘can I just do this first??’ Another waitress overheard and offered to do it for us. There was a fair bit of noticeable disharmony between the staff and complaints made between themselves could be heard by both myself and my friend. We honestly felt like we were a huge inconvenience. After another lengthy wait I asked for the bill. It didn’t come. We watched instead as our waitress sat at the table next to us ‘cashing up’, or rather counting blue copies of orders. After a good while she approached the table and asked if we wouldn’t mind paying as she wanted to finish up. At this point I told her that I had asked her for bill ten minutes ago and still hadn’t received it. ‘Well you didn’t ask me’ came the reply. Ugh. All in all, very uncomfortable. Snappish service and for me, an extensive menu shouldn’t be so limited at 2.30pm on a Saturday. I noticed that you could order a fried egg on your bacon butty, but not after 2.30pm?? After 2.30pm it was a bacon butty without an egg. Crazy. If this had been my first visit, I would never had made a second. In fact, despite enjoying it a lot over the years, I doubt I will be back. Such a shame..."

"This is an open and honest review from dining there tonight on 16/03/2024. After arriving at 5pm for opening, the restaurant was not open until 17:15pm. Once inside we were pointed to a table near the window and given the menu. To note the restaurant was freezing the whole time we were there. After 10 minutes we were asked would we like drinks. We ordered two cokes which were served warm and nearly flat. Despite having previously ordered takeaways from here over the years and never had a problem, I purposely chose to dine inside to celebrate my birthday; although this was a huge mistake after tonight’s poor service from the moment we arrived to leaving. After we got the drinks it took a further 15minutes before we were asked to order our food (more waiting around) finally we placed our order and when the starters came out, I had ordered meat samosas and my partner ordered onion bhaji’s. I took one bite into the meat samosa which was stone cold and freezing, which was served to me not cooked throughout. I told the waitress who apologised and took them away. After another 5 minutes they gave me fresh samosas which were pipping hot. In addition portion size is lacking and for the price isn’t worth it for both samosas onion bhaji’s. Equally, two customers waiting for takeaways were served their food before we had been given are main dishes although, we had been there since opening. Once we finished our starters we waited over 1 hour for our food to come out. Therefore we were just about to leave the restaurant due to the lack of service. The atmosphere was dreadful and they don’t approach your table to ask if you would like drinks or anything, or to address the fact you’ve been in there for over an hour and yet still waiting for food. To add to this terrible experience they then took mine and my partners unfinished drinks of the table, which we had to ask for our drinks back. Which in any other restaurant they would have apologised and given new ones back, not ones which were taken away out of sight. No discounts given for a spoilt birthday meal and all which add to this poor dining experience. I will never order from here again. Especially once the main dishes were served the children korma did not look cooked properly. I will report back if I get food poisoning. If you want to waste money on small portion sizes, no decent atmosphere, terrible service, terrible cold food and have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for your drinks and food, I would think again. This is not the 5 star dining experience expected and doesn’t justify the service I received tonight. Waste of money and shouldn’t have paid. If I could give it NO stars I would have."
