"We were visiting Cornwall to deliver our son to a friend's wedding, with no other way for him to get there during a rail strike. It was a very long, wearisome journey to and fro from Wiltshire. A comfortable watering hole was desperately needed! Thank heavens for google maps, which took us to the Rising Sun. It's clearly a pub that caters to locals, but we were made welcome by everybody there. It's one of those places that is quirky, traditional, and full of character, and we absolutely loved it. The location is hidden away down narrow lanes, but it really is worth searching out. The welcome is warm, and the food and drink are very good. I would return without hesitation.... Vegetarian options: For a small pub, we were pleased to see veggie options, which looked more than tempting. It's a good balanced menu, without being pretentious. Parking: We found a space in front of the pub, but it's very tight there. If you can walk there from the village, life will be easier!"

"Lovely large pub. Great location. Huge views. Great outdoors sitting (undercover and open for those sunny days with distant views to Plymouth and the sea . Lovely food. Very friendly, attentive staff. (Sorry, I forgot to leave the lovely waiting staff a tip, after sampling the extensive top shelf malt whiskies! . My 'spending breakdown ' is because of 'tasting various malts ', otherwise very reasonable! Thank you. Price per person: £20–30"

"Firstly this is a proper family run pub, the minute you walk in you'll feel that family closeness and will be treated as part of the family. The owners are friendly and chatty, the sons hard working and very much on the ball with everything. There was something rather special about this place, can't fully put my finger on it but I'm sure you'll feel the same. Highly recommend booking tables as many customers sadly got turned away due to how busy the food was. The quality and taste was amazing, the beef melted in the mouth and the lemon homemade cheesecake was gorgeous. I personally feel the owners could be making more money from the food side of things, maybe re-looking at space or noticing 2 people took a table for 4, or trying their very hardest to not turn away potential customers in todays climate, even if this means asking those who haven't booked to eat within a set time surly this would be better than making them go back out in the pouring rain hungry and miserable. Highly recommended but do call and book first."

"Well what can I say but absolutely fabulous, nothing was to much trouble for this dynamic couple. Surrounding was bright, clean and and welcoming. Now let’s get onto the food …….. fresh coffee and I mean fresh, you could taste the milk had only been heated once! All types of refreshments available hot and cold drinks.and light meals, all made fresh to order on the premises. If you really want a treat try Sharon’s fresh bakes, would go back every day just for the cheesecakes! Prices are very competitive for the area, I would even say cheaper than some nearby. Setting in and outside right in the centre of Calstock, sit and watch village life with a fresh coffee and cake…. Various teas also available. Th ask you Adie and Sharon, I’ll definitely be back sooner than you think!!"

"we went to Mother's Day, so naturally very busy and worked hard. we had a nice time, well visited and eat great. some of the other customers you. jeeze, they are holy to arrest them! Crazy award goes to a...local who felt that you were 10ml less wein than asked and went home to measure it, then came back and complained! the and the great parties who sit on the day of the mother and expect that they pay attention to it, then moaning if not."
