"I went to the restaurant with my mother and sister this evening at 6:30 on December 6th, 2023. When we arrived, our booked table was ready for us. Nobody asked if we were the booked party, as the table was reserved for 4 people but only 3 of us were there. After about 5 minutes of searching for the Christmas menu in the table menus (which was what we had booked for), my mother went to the bar to order drinks and ask for a Christmas menu. The lady behind the bar was not aware that the Christmas menu was available, despite it being advertised since November 15th. Eventually, we received one menu to share between the three of us. For starters, we ordered 2 breaded mushrooms and 1 order of chicken wings. The starters took about 20 minutes to arrive. The chicken wings were delicious, but the mushrooms were overcooked and too crispy. For mains, we ordered 2 sirloin steaks cooked medium rare and a Turkey pie. The mains took almost 40 minutes to arrive, and both steaks were overcooked. After asking for steak knives, my sister's steak was acceptable, but mine was overcooked, so I sent it back. The staff apologized and brought me a new steak cooked medium rare. I ordered another round of drinks, and the service at the bar was pleasant despite some issues with the till. Our desserts took another 15 minutes to arrive, and they were tasty. Overall, the pub has a nice atmosphere but the food quality and service need improvement. I believe the staff would benefit from better training. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon."

"We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening, right after they had refurbished the playground. At first glance, I wasn't particularly impressed by the menu, but since it was getting late for the kids to eat, we decided to go for it. Fortunately, we were delighted with our choices! The food was fantastic—our orders included steak, lasagna, and two children's meals with nuggets and sausages. The steak was cooked perfectly to our liking, and my lasagna was incredible—homemade and the best I've ever had in a pub, with generous portions all around. There were no pre-packaged meals in sight either. All the staff were really friendly, the meals arrived quickly, and the service was excellent. It was definitely good value for money. The only downside was that there wasn't easy access to the playground directly from the pub. Overall, we look forward to returning!"

"We had previously past Fradley Junction on a boat but had no option to stop there last year. We thought we would drive the 30 odd miles just to visit in out of peak season. I will not waste your time on a long review so in summary. Bar Staff: Just one person on duty. Helpful. Pleasant. Polite. Could not fault him. Impressions: Lounge area; rather small, very stuffy and clearly an aged place. Little natural light. Facilities: Gents toilet 10/10. Ladies toilet is not so good. 7/10 Food: Oh my word!!! Of our two meals, one had to be sent back as inedible. Chunky chips appeared to have been reheated a few times.... at least once. They were just OK but certainly not fresh. Ham and egg was OK but could be better by using a better quality dry cured ham. The lasagne was truly awful and that is being kind. Reheated, dry, rubbery and tasteless. This ruined our visit. Disappointed indeed. Summary: On reflection this may be a nice place to sit out on a warm evening watching the boats go by. I would never recommend the food though. It was clearly produced quickly and in large volumes to cater for the hoards of visitors in Summer."

"I was taken aback by her unbelievable tone and attitude. My friend had traveled from Canada and was on her way to Heathrow for a flight home, and I didn’t want to create a scene. Ideally, I would have told that rude staff member exactly what I thought of her behavior. There's a fine line between being efficient and crossing over into rudeness, and she definitely crossed it. While I know that restaurants often defend themselves with claims that other guests love them, I can honestly say that in this instance, I did not enjoy my experience. The other staff members were great, and the venue and food were decent, but I won’t be making the hour-long drive again just to be verbally confronted by a staff member. We left our table at 2:17 PM, having effectively been given back 43 minutes for free."

"What a truly awful experience we had. We arrived at 7.30 for our reservation. After waiting an hour for our starters, we asked how long the food would be we had no response! We asked a different waiter the same question 20 minutes later again no response! We then asked the waitress, who I believe was part of the management yet again no response! 20 minutes later I asked the same waitress the same question again. She answered that she didn 't know what was going on!! Furthermore, she was laughing off the fact that we had now waited 1 hour and 40 minutes without even a starter. A couple on the next table had finished their starter and main even though they arrived after us. We left after an hour and fifty minutes, with the waitress asking are you leaving ? Yes, she actually didn 't expect us to. We had no explanation as to the issue with our order. So I will explain the issue to the management here: You have no organisation skills. You have no awareness of customer service. You insult customers by laughing at their complaint and questions. Your staff are incompetent. You are incompetent. Your staff are quite happy to chat with friends at the bar rather than clear tables vacated over an hour earlier. I wonder why your restaurant was only 30% full on a Saturday evening?"

"Shown to table straight away,15/20mins later we had to grab waiter to ask what seasonal veg,then further 10mins before I had to grab someone again to take order...around 20 mins young girl came out to ask if one of our party was vegan or veggie,as she ordered vegan pie!! Then food came out, 2 roast dinners,3 pizzas,I vegan and fish n chips...4 meals all fine but roasts had peas n carrots, missing all veg and roasters I had to ask where veg was,they apologised and went back to get some, came out,but still missing parsnips and roast potatoes,so back again, vegan pie also missing veg...eventually all sorted,but roasters were large and hard on outside,parsnips hard,, no one came and asked how everything was..plates left for 20mins after we had finished,young lad never offered any dessert menu, another 20mins I had to go to till point and 2 lads 1 girl all by till chatting, ordered 1 dessert,only because it was included on kids menu...it obviously needs manager at wkend to shake these young staff up, 1 lad spent time chatting to family everytime he went outside,but ignored our empty plates on table...we spent around £150 ,would've been more if we had desserts but service really lacking,,spoilt our family birthday meal..."

"After a long and tiring day at Drayton Manor, 2 adults and 3 kids, we needed somewhere to eat close to our Premier Inn and after a quick Google we decided to try The Crown and booked a table online. On arrival we were warmly greeted and taken to our booked table, I’d asked for 4 instead of 5 but this wasn’t a problem and we were relocated with no fuss. The 3 kids had fish and chips with several variations and the adults had the venison special, all plates were clean, absolutely delicious. From start to finish we were served by a delightful lady who was warm, friendly and efficient, a real credit to the establishment. Ambiance was also lovely, dog friendly and a nice buzz to the place. A really great find, we will definitely return if in the area again."

"We’ve been to the red lion many times and always really enjoyed it. This visit was on Boxing Day and whilst the food was still really good we were just let down really by a bit of a chaotic experience. The food had been pre-ordered but when we arrived, I was told that the fish for the main course had changed and had I not got the email? (no I haven’t). As it was the alternative fish was really nice, but this was a bit of an indicator of how things were going to go. My starter arrived and it was with pink peppercorns, but it was absolutely drowning in them. Once you picked all those off it was very tasty. The main course for my husband was beef which he said was very good. However, I’d noticed that on his plate the only vegetable was some cabbage and other people appear to be having carrots too. Asking the waitress she then advised that they should’ve been on the plate so went to fetch them and by the time they arrived he’d practically finished his food. Dessert I’d ordered Baked Alaska and was basically just a puddle on a plate and it went back twice. The waitress asked if I’d like to swap for something else so I opted for the chocolate cherry trifle which was really good. So the food was good overall, but it just seemed disorganised despite the pre-ordering. However, I have to say that the staff were always very helpful and accommodating and did actually reduce our bill because of the issues. I think the problem was that they just had too many large parties. Behind us, there was a table of 30 people and there were a couple of other tables of 10.whilst I will quite happily go back to the red lion again, I don’t think I’ll be doing it again for Christmas or New Year, unless they say that they will limit the table sizes."

"Popped in for a quick drink and lunch with a friend. A good welcome by a member of staff, but we were promptly informed of the various items on the menu that they didn’t have. The reason being the “Easter break”. Bearing in mind one item was tuna an item my friend would have chosen for the baked potato filling), and possibly echoing previous comments, how difficult is it to go to a local supermarket and buy a couple of tins ? We both settled on baked potato with cheese and beans we were told that they had no beans, but found some) and tea for two. The tea was luke warm unfortunately, and the extra hot water, wasn’t . The potatoes to be fair weren’t bad, but served on very small plates so difficult to eat. Neither of us would return, the cafe looks tired and in need of a good clean. A shame, because with a bit of effort, this could be lovely."

"We booked a table in the morning as previously we have been and not been able to get a table. We had a pushchair with us and wanted to make sure we had enough space and didn’t feel in the way. The staff were more than helpful with this and arranged a table perfect for us. The menu is so varied and you’d struggle to not find something on there you wanted. We had a full English, pork roast dinner and a pork roast dinner in a giant Yorkshire. The food was amazing, couldn’t fault it. As people have previously said on reviews the sausages weren’t great but I’m not a massive sausage fan anyway so didn’t really mind them all that much. It came out hot and presentable. Reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and made us feel incredibly welcome. I also had a chocolate milkshake and that was delicious. Can’t wait to return."

"Having failed to book at another local pub we used the quick and simple online booking system used by The Red Lion. We booked a table easily for a time that suited us. The outside of the pub may be a little uninspiring but once inside we were we were greeted with a warm welcome and a nicely decorated interior. Service was quick and efficient. The menu had a reasonable range of food and the specials board had some interesting options. Our three choices included scampi and chips, pork in apple cider with mash and hunters chicken. Followed by ice cream, lemon meringue pie and caramel apple pie. All the food was well prepared and tasty. We had a nice meal in pleasant surroundings and were glad that we had visited this friendly pub."

"Ordered a family takeaway for 6, meal was delivered within 45 minutes which was fine. When it arrived we called them to say one meal was missing. They confirmed it had been ordered and paid for and said the forgotten meal would be with us shortly, an hour later no meal, another phone call, another apology saying it would be right with us, an hour later no meal, another phone call no meal. A third phone call an apology and a promise to deliver but still no meal. I can completely forgive mistakes but promising to send the missing food then receiving nothing when it has been paid for is unfair. It wasn't nice to have to chase a missing meal when all my mother wanted was to host my family. The final phone call 3 hours after the original meal, my mum asked for a refund for the missing meal. The lady on the phone said the delivery driver could not find the address, we explained again that they had already delivered to us this evening and taken our money so how could they not find the address, again we asked for a refund for the missing meal. She was extremely rude and hung up the phone so no meal or refund. My mother was very upset as she was hosting the evening and the woman was very rude to her. Appalled by the service and how they spoke to a 70 year old woman."

"I haven't visited this restaurant in years, but I recently had an incredible meal there. The food was freshly cooked with options for meat, fish, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. It was all delicious and the service was great. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old building. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back."

"After driving past this restaurant on numerous occasions and seeing it was busy most of the time, me and my partner decided to give it a go wish we hadn't of bothered! Walked into restaurant an could see they were fairly busy but was quickly shown to a table might as well of been sitting on the persons lap next to us how close the tables are! Had a look through the menu, ordered drinks and decided on bbq ribs was then told that they didn't have any, which is fine, I understand restaurants run out of things. So reordered a cowboy burger, and my partner had a rare sirloin steak. 45 minutes later, with empty glasses on the table and no sign of our food we seemed to of been forgotten about, not one waitress asked if we would like another drink no one would make eye contact or apologise about the wait. Another long 20 minutes after that our food arrived to the table and i was shocked to see the order was wrong! Bbq sauce was on the burger yet on the menu it states it should come with burger sauce on the side, waitress asked if we would like any sauce my partner asked for mayonnaise. I explained to the waitress that my order was wrong and she grabbed the plate back and took it back to the kitchen. 10 minutes later my food came back to the table (may I add my partner was half way through his meal and was slammed down infront of me.. Without any sauce at all (and without an apology! Explained to her again that the meal should be provided with burger sauce and she just turned and walked away. By this time i was angry with how we had been treated, and the fact we waited 1 hour 5 minutes for wrong food and had not been given an apology was astonishing! She then returned 5 minutes later with burger sauce asked us again if we would like any other sauce... My other half had asked for mayonnaise but had now finished his meal but she still brought 5 pots over the table.. Confusing I know! My partner really enjoyed his steak, said it was cooked just to how he liked it which I was glad about, my burger was good also when it was all right! Overall I won't be returning to this pub, there are many restaurants of this chain (2 for 1 around, and would rather go that extra mile as I know we'll have great food AND great service such as the Sax and Penny in Lichfield, which is always 100%! The waitress at The Crown looked as though she couldn't be bothered to be there, and made very little effort with us."

I had a whole prise peroni that was knocked over by the waitress. she went and took some tissue I thought was for me, but she used it to wipe the table while giggling about the chaos I was in. "we went to the holly bush today for Sunday dinner. first, I thank them so much for the team that has arranged for the exit seats and a chair with poor for my brother in law that has great backward problems. our waitress was so friendly. only a joy to have someone so friendly and knowledgeable to serve them. great menu. from mosquitoes, Korean chicken and garlic mushroom beginners to the torte and excellent roasts were all our main dishes very good. it is a shame that there were no crumbs as one of my favorites, but the mocha dessert and the Eaton fair were great, like my sorbet and eis. overall a great Sunday lunch in a place where we are again and again."

"I ordered a Biryani via the Just Eat app, in the “comments” section I requested a madras sauce. When the meal arrived it came with a creamy lentil sauce. I called Paprika to query the order and was rudely told they don’t read comments I should have telephoned the request through. I’m just glad I didn’t comment on an allergy ! I raised a case with Just Eat who said they can’t ask vendors to read comments suggested I should have telephoned it through. That ivsuggests renders the App pointless, I may as well just telephoned the vendor in future. Paprika’s response was rude obstructive, I will not use them again. I binned the meal."

"Not been to The Bowling Green for a while and we were in Lichfield so thought we would pop in for Sunday lunch. We had a turkey and beef sunday dinner. As soon as my husband came from the bar ordering the food arrived like within 5 mins. The food came on a cold plate I touched the vegetables and they were not even warm. I asked for it to be taken back. It came back out .the veg was warm ish. But the plate again stone cold. The parsnips were dried up the roast potatoes were frozen ones. The meat was so dry had to have a drink after each chew . I left some of the meal. Honest I never moan about my food but this was awful. Give it a miss and save your money. One bonus the staff were nice and pleasant"

"Booked a table for 4 at the Lee garden Chinese restaurant in Lichfield , it was my partner 40th Birthday, The restaurant got us in on the day which was nice. so it was supposed to be something special, for a special occasion. Got into the restaurant and the waitress came over and gave us some prawn crackers, then took our order for drinks so far so good. The drinks came over, then the waiter took our food order. We ordered Two hot and sour soups, sweet and sour Cantonese chicken, Noodles, Sizzling lamb Cantonese style, special curry, Vegetable curry, egg fried rice x 2, chips and spring roles. The food took over a hour to come out which wasn’t great. when it arrived the hot and sour soups were Luke warm and looked like they had been in and out of a microwave. The lamb Cantonese style tasted like cheap meat it wasn’t lamb, my mate said he wasn’t sure what it was, It was dreadful. Both rice dishes were Luke warm and the noodles were cold. To cut a long story short apart from the chips which were Fantastic, the rest of the food was a microwave job.. Plus the special curry hardly had any meat in it!! For £13 plus a main meal I find this an absolute disgrace!! They took the rices, noodles and soups off the bill, which still came to nearly £80… It was a rip off, we paid £80 for food heated up in a microwave.. Please avoid, I felt sick after this meal and I shall personally not ever return to this place. Michael Wan's Mandarin in Blackpool Is a premier league Chinese, the food fabulous! This establishment however is far from that ,it’s utter garbage.. The staff were nice People, It’s not their fault , but the food like I said was a 0/10!"

"The reason this isn't one star is Shona the waitress who deserves better than this graveyard of a restaurant. Food was absolutely the lowest quality stuff I've ever encountered. We ordered steaks that were fatty, tough and terribly cooked (not seasoned, cooked at too low a temperature) the ploughman's sharer is basically stuff from Tesco's warmed up and served with the cheapest sort of bread. We'd have brought it up but frankly it's clear your chef can't do better so what's the point. Oh, we ordered pulled pork that wasn't. I suspect it was leftovers. Not sure the chef knows what pulled pork is. Another thing while we're at it, the other guy who bought our wine didn't even bother to open it. The place had four tables on a Saturday night, and one of them was complaining about the food to the staff all night. Maybe the reason this is the emptiest restaurant in Lichfield is because it has an old fashioned menu and quality that would shame a Wetherspoons. Will never return ."
