"Without a doubt the worst experience we have ever had. Pre booked a table for 5 for dinner on Saturday evening and when we arrived they didn't seem that busy. We were shown to our table relatively quick. We then had to sit there for around 20 minutes until someone came to take our food order. I was a bit surprised that there was only 2 steaks on the menu unless you gave 24hr notice. We then had to ask could we order a drink. It wasn't a difficult order 1 beer and 4 Fanta. We waited a further 15 for the drinks to come which were wrong also the glasses were disgusting with lipstick and previous drink residue on them.we eventually got all that sorted and the food came. I had ordered a mixed grill which was £28 I asked for my steak to be cooked medium. The plates were literally just in front of us 2 minutes when a waitress came and asked was everything OK. As I began to work my way through the food I eventually got to the 8oz steak which was very well done and extremely hard to chew so it was left. When everyone had finished they came to clear the plates and I told the waitress that I had asked for medium and not well done and to my surprise she immediately got on the defensive asking did someone come and see if everything was OK I told her yes but it was just after the food was brought. 2 minutes later the owner of the place came out of the kitchen with my steak on a small plate and proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that that's the way a medium steak should look but there was not even a slight tinge of pink. He then started to tell me that I didn't know how steak was cooked. I then mentioned the glasses and he said didn't they get replaced so what's the problem. At this point t my kids were getting pretty upset so I just asked for the bill so we could leave. To be honest it was very intimidating to have a well over 6ft man stand over you arguing over a piece of steak. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone."

"I recently visited The Fat Gherkin in Moira, Northern Ireland, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. The menu, food, service, and atmosphere were all exceptional. I visited with a party of 4, and we all agreed that we would definitely go back. The menu at The Fat Gherkin is diverse and offers something for everyone. The vegan options are particularly noteworthy, with dishes such as the avocado mushroom bap, mushroom toast, and cake. The vegetarian sandwich can be made vegan upon request. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I highly recommend the Soda Stack (Vegetarian option available) and Dirty Chai Latte. The service was friendly, attentive, and prompt. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. The atmosphere at The Fat Gherkin is cozy, inviting, and perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. The decor is charming, and the seating is comfortable. There is also an outdoor seating area when weather permits. Overall, I highly recommend The Fat Gherkin for anyone looking for a delicious meal in a warm and welcoming environment. I can’t wait to go back! "Our last visit to Ashvale was very mediocre to say the least but every establishment has its 'off ' days so we decided to give it another chance and return for Lunch, My wife and I both ordered the soup and a sandwich, I ordered a mozzerella and pesto sandwich and asked a bemused waitress if I could substitute the rocket for general lettuce as I really do not like rocket, the soup that day was Vegetable Broth.......Indeed the sandwich came out minus the rocket with the smallest and limpest piece of lettuce I have ever saw in a sarnie (which was toasted but luke warm) Taste wise it was a complete disappointment, barely any pesto, lacked seasoning and generally bland, definately not a gourmet sandwich, onto the vegetable broth, the only way I could describe it was 'dishwater ' There was zero pearl barley (or any soup mixture for that matter) the leaf celery was chewy and stringy and generally unpleasant, flavour wise it completely lacked any, My wife had a different sandwich but was also disappointed with it, she didnt finish her soup. Ashvales social media routinely showcase their deserts and they always look fantastic in the pictures so I ordered Lemon Meringue Pie, unfortunately underwhelmed once again, I don 't think the meringue had been baked, it looked as if it had been browned on top with a blow torch which wasnt particularly pleasant, the lemon was over sweet and in between the lemon and base there was a thin layer of red jam, im not sure if it was raspberry or strawberry but it didnt belong there, rather than enhance it just made the whole thing taste weird, the last time I ordered tea but didnt enjoy it at all so opted for a coke zero which was the best part of the meal (my wife did enjoy her coffee) I really dislike giving out poor reviews but if something isn 't right then it has to be registered, over all it was a very disappointing experience, beautiful interior but food and service (check out the other reviews on service) generally lacking especially when you are paying premium prices which you only find out when you dine there as they keep their menu prices away from the internet. I doubt we will ever return to Ashvale which is a real shame as it COULD be a wonderful place."
