"So I start this seated in my room with the most beautiful view it’s one of my favourite hotels which I love so much since starting chemo it’s my local ‘go to’ as it makes the world I’m in go away so I write this honestly with such disappointment. We dined in the restaurant this evening food was spot on as always! My gripe was with the gentleman who I find is the manager in the dining area. On arrival we waited to be seated, the gentleman in question seated another customer and returned back to the plinth keying into his iPad making no eye contact nor acknowledging our presence he was clearly frustrated by his iPad and was struggling to input so overlooked his ignorance as could see stressed and felt a little sorry another gentleman seated us once our mains arrived I ordered a bottle of wine sadly this did not appear to our table once we finished I said excuse me to the First Gentleman to ask for bill/state wine not arrived he glared at me (admittedly his hands were full) but said nothing whatsoever a second waiter passed with equally full hands and again I spoke to him what a difference and so polite whilst I was complaining venomously about the first waiter he advised that was the manager he returned with equal arrogance to say I said I’d come back (he definitely had not) when challenged he said ‘well you could see my hands were full’ !!!!! Do your hands operate your mouth and tongue!! Learn humility and manners from your junior colleagues however stressed you are customers deserve respect the young man could stop to speak yet you were ignorant and rude!!!"

"After me and my partner made 4 random stops here for lunch we knew that the food was good and the staff very friendly. With this track record it seemed the prefect venue for a celebratory lunch for 25 friends and 4 well behaved dogs. It was easy to plan the menu choices and availability by email and I just provided 90% of the menu choices 2 days in advance. On the day car parking was easy and friends travelling by train or staying overnight in Welshpool were able to stroll up through the town to The Raven Inn. Pre-lunch drinks in the bar satisfied every palate with tasty fresh coffee, a range of Real Ales, wines and soft drinks. Plenty of room to stand, sit and chat, a real fire log-burner and dog biscuits on the bar. With 25 of us we had a reserved dining area in the old part of the building and shortly after I had seated everyone, the starters began to be brought to the tables. Eight different starters satisfied the diners with their engaging presentation and satisfying taste. Then the main courses arrived with the personalise steaks, sausages relished by our Swiss friends, Braised Faggots from the butchers in Welshpool, fish and curries. Particular praise was from the lucky diners who had chosen the pan-fried duck breast, what large ducks they must have been! With the bar handy on two side it was easy to keep hydrated and help wash down the wonderful food. The finale was the appearance of the desserts, brilliant like finely costumed dancers with the Amaretto Creme Brulee and the Dacqouise looking as spectacular as they tasted. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we really felt carefree and cared for. Congratulations to all the front of house staff and the wizards in the kitchen who were the creative powerhouse. The dogs particularly enjoyed the walk along the river bank that ran from the Raven bridge upstream through the fields across from the railway."

"My husband and I visited this restaurant while staying at the lakeside campsite and what a fantastic discovery!! On Saturday, we decided to try the food without a reservation, and they said we could have a table in 45 minutes. We chose the £30 steak sharing platter, with the option to add mussels for surf and turf. We were both impressed by the amount of meat provided in the steak platter, as well as the garlic mushrooms, seasoned fries, burnt onion, and peppercorn sauce. The peppercorn sauce was creamy and delicious, just the way I like it. The mussels came with garlic bread on the side, perfect for soaking up the sauce! They were the tastiest mussels I've had in years. For dessert, we had apple blackberry pie with custard ice cream, which was also delicious. We enjoyed the food so much that we booked for Sunday lunch, which was just as amazing! We both chose the beef, served with roast potatoes, beetroot, carrots, parsnips, greens, and Yorkshire puddings. My husband said it was the best Sunday lunch he's ever had. The beef was cooked perfectly, and we loved everything that came with it. Both meals were excellent value for money (especially the steak sharing platter!). We live just over an hour away, but we will definitely return just for the food! The service from the owner and waitresses was also outstanding. It's a lovely, friendly pub that is clearly popular with the locals."
