"We visited Stamford to meet some friends and visited Gooch's for lunch as it is Dog friendly. As we had our dog with us it's sometimes difficult to find Dog friendly places. It's ok in the Summer as most places accept Dogs outside , but in the Cold Winter you want to be able to go inside in the warm. This was a big plus for us being Dog friendly and the doggy part is downstairs and backs onto the outside which is great if your Dog needs to go to the toilet. If you didn't want to be near dogs you can sit upstairs so it suits a variety of people , dog friendly or not. We ordered our food which consisted of 2 panini's , one with Southern fried chicken and the other with stilton , poached pear walnut. We also ordered a large peroni and a deluxe hot chocolate. The staff were friendly and our drinks were bought to us in about 10 minutes. Wow... I couldn't believe my hot chocolate. It was like a meal in itself. It was huge , with whipped cream , marshmallows , gingerbread crumb and chocolate sauce. I can honestly say it was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Our panini's arrived shortly after. Both our panini's were lovely and came with a small fancy side salad and a pot of coleslaw. My panini of stilton , poached pear walnut was delicious. It is however a bit on the pricey side as my deluxe hot chocolate, a large peroni and 2 panini's came to nearly £36. It was worth paying though as we don't go often and was a lovely treat. We would highly recommend this place and definitely great if you take your dog."

"It amazes me but this place is good and has an Ok atmosphere, but every time I go in there seems to be a lack of customers.. beers are a bit hit and miss. During the week I get the impression that the staff are a little undertrained in most things changing barrels seems to be a constant theme. there have been many occasions that I have been in there and the staff have not been able to change barrels and have had to call for help to do it. This seems to me to show that the staff are not being respected as they appear to be neither confident enough or trained well enough manager never seems to be around in evenings unless its weekend.... but then I'm not in there every day I like the place been there many times prices are ok not great but ok for Bourne best value for cost v bar, but could be cleaner.particular attention needs to be paid to toilets as they are seldom clean and my wife says the ladies never has loo roll and all lights working !! I'm sure it isn't NEVER but that how it feels to her. I don't see the hourly toilet check sheet posted anymore so maybe they have stopped checking loos ... that's pretty backwards for a public place in this day and age.. lets be honest unless its weekends the staff are NOT rushed off their feet !Happy hour is good value, and works as wife's wine is also cheaper...sunday afternoons are busy as are sat when football is on. recently changed the football season ticket start of the season which now for me doesn't work as wife wine is no longer discounted and no stamp given for it, so stopped going in with her at weekends. overall its Ok. personally I think at the moment it doesn't seem to have a real identity its not a full on sports bar, or a child yes they are welcome but not that kid friendly pub or a drinkers pub or a dinner pub. It a little of everything and as such has nothing that it specialises in.sure that Ross will comment in his usual manner accusing me of bad grammar or by asking me to use the wetherspoons when it opens which incidentally I will defiantly as will most of the locals I talk to in here..but maybe if he actually took some criticism and actioned rectified things it would be GOOD for the bar"

"Great pub and I am a regular here. Food is usually consistently good and obviously the drink prices are excellent owing to the fact that this pub is part of the Wetherspoons franchise. So you are obviously wondering why I only gave it one star? This is due to the atrocious and bullying behaviour I witnessed on Saturday night by one of the Managers to a security employee. We were enjoying a drink in the beer garden which was packed with people due to the fabulous weather. The young security man came around checking ids of those who may not have been old enough to be there when he was approached by a young woman who I assume was a Manager (blonde hair and glasses). This 'lady ' preceeded to scream at the member of security in front of the whole beer garden, accusing him of not doing his properly (he was). She stood shouting and pointing her finger in his face. The whole beer garden was watching in total disbelief and it made for such an uncomfortable atmosphere that we left (as did many others). The poor man was totally humiliated in front of everyone. Being management myself there is a way to deal with staff issues and this is not it. If there is an issue, pull the staff member to one side but do not ever bully him in front of a packed pub! Mentioning this to some other friends later in the evening and apparently this woman is well known for this type of behaviour. This bullying behaviour needs to be addressed asap and I won 't be going back there until this woman is put in a position which is more suited to her vile personality. Bullying is NEVER OK."
