"We were staying at Mont D'Onel near Couze, about 3 mins drive away and were recommended this restaurant by the owner of our gite. It looks a little shabby but the food was good quality and very nicely cooked. There are various set price options or you could mix and match from the al la carte. I had hot goat cheese salad and pork medallions in pepper sauce, both of which were delicious. My friends had a 4 course fixed price option which included soup, veal, smoked salmon, duck and cheeses, all of which were very highly rated. We were the only tourists in the establishment, the other diners and bar users were locals which is a good recommendation. Our meals were around €25 each."

En un viaje por la dordoña nos detuvimos por casualidad en este sencillo restaurante que resultó muy bueno. Comida y menús locales a precio muy razonable. Muy bueno el confit de pato y el foie. Comida de calidad y honesta. Lo recomiendo

The set meals are incredible value. You start with soup of the day, then three courses and coffee. I think the cheapest menu is only 19 Euros. The food is delicious home cooking and great quality. We always visit for lunch or dinner and are never disappointed. Also, you must try the local nut wine. Speisekarte ansehen

Booking is essential and that is simply because of the quality of this place. Its mid range in price, various menus from 18 Euros up to around 34 Euros. The quality is some of the best I have ever had, anywhere. Portions are very generous, its well cooked and nicely presented. It just doesnt get any better.

I particularly enjoyed this prix fixee typical Perigord meal...my wife less so (as I will explain).Nice open air dining, at bend of quiet village road. Good food....reasonable price. One waitress DELIGHTFUL; the (presumably) Madame, however was a haughty, tres froide, individual who didn't take to my (reasonable) attempts en Francaise....hence my wife was not amused

We found the food good and very wholesome, using local ingredients in traditional recipes. Starters and mains were very good. Aperitifs and house wine too; deserts were unremarkable on that day. Auberge des Marronniers was just a few steps from our accommodation which was a bonus (see other review). We really enjoyed eating here and wished we had discovered it earlier during our short stay in Lanquais. Speisekarte ansehen

This restaurant provides a good meal at very reasonable prices. At lunchtime there is no menu for the entrée (salad with chicken livers)and plat (pork with lovely oven-roast potatoes) but there was a choice of desserts and we opted for the tarte aux pommes. A carafe of wine is included in the price. All the food was good, plain but nourishing and filling. The restaurant's clientele were all French except for us and this is clearly a popular place for the local population.

Quaint old building, best to eat outside in the warm months. Inside is rather like eating in someone's house rather than a restaurant. The 18 Euros menu is so cheap for the quality, the moules gratin has to be tasted to be believed and the veal is my husband's favourite. Free soup for every guest - delicious. Great value for money. Closed Tuesday/Wednesday I think but definitely open Mondays (unlike other places around here). Great for Sunday lunch and families. Worth ringing to reserve.

"Note that any reviews prior to April do not reflect the restaurant under new owners and also the information on the restaurant web site with particular reference to Menus is out of date. We have visited Couze et St Front for brief visits over...a number of years and have always enjoyed eating at this restaurant. On our visit last year, we enjoyed our visit so much we booked again a few days later. We dined there today under the new ownership and whilst we enjoyed the food from a limited menu we did not think it lived up to our expectations. The cheapest menu is now Euros (we had a better menu of similar quality for Euros at Beaulieu sur Dordogne recently) and we were surprised that after choosing our menu, when it came to the choice of deserts the options on the menu had been changed without previous reference and the option of cheese was no longer available which was a disappointment. The service was good and friendly and we enjoyed our food but at the prices charged for limited choice on the menus (or the Carte which just reflects the dishes on the menus but with, I gather, larger portions), we may not visit again if we find ourselves in Couze et St Front. We made a special point of spending a few days at Couze on our trip through France this year looking forward to dining at this restaurant, but would be unlikely to do so again.Very few tables were occupied during our visit in contrast to previous years when it was sometimes difficult to get a reservation. Finally, I should say that if the weather is warm, the outdoor terrace by a stream makes a delightful place to enjoy lunch."

"The welcome and service was outstanding as ws the manner of the waiting staff. the highlight wasthe readiness of the waitress to with smiles support and permit me to conduct my interaction in my francais faïble even though she would I believe have preferred to continue in english, but her interaction and convivial yet respectful acquiescence was commendable. we, in our group, opted for the plat de jour formule. this consisted of an uninpespiring entre of peeled prawns in acold cs undressed slad of shreded cabbage carrots beetroot and courgettes. oerfectly acceptble but not a chef-sccomplishment beyondthe skills of any home- host. the main course was some sort of bourgignon de boef , individuall the pieces weresrtingy and thesauc e lacked any unctuosity of flavour peaks, accompanied by a bed of toast and creamed potato this was paysanne food without the rawness and veracity of the traditional Routier paysanne eatery. theis establidhment hs built itself a reputation of culinary andatmospheric excelence non of which was apparent to me on this visit, the plat de jour 3 courses plys wine & coffee totalled 35 euros per head. there are restaurants that offer far far higher quality at lower price for formules du midi. I do concede that should one chose from te higher priced a la carte one, therein, may well find the pinnacles of gastronomy[?] . But I could not in my extensive experience of organising a Dordogne dining club over the last 4 years, possibly recommend, on my recent expeerience of this restaurant as meeting the quality of food or atmosphere that its web-site in grandeur and elegance presents."

"We first visited this restaurant over a year ago, and the food was pretty awful. We both ordered a salad, which was mostly oil, and the service was slow, so we did not return that year.We returned this year, as they had added pizza to the menu and we wanted to try it out again. We had our two dogs with us and it was very hot out, despite being 7 pm. When we first arrived at 6:30 we asked if we could sit outside with the (very quiet) dogs, and were told we could, only for the waitress to then tell us that nothing would be served until 7, so off we went. When we returned, we were not allowed to sit at the table we chose, in the shade, due to having dogs with us. To be honest, we should have left at this point, but were tired, hot and hungry. The waitress seated us at one of the only tables that was in bright sunlight at the edge, despite only two of the 30 tables being taken. We assumed it would get very busy, but it never did. Thus we were sat in the blistering sun for over an hour, even though all the tables in the shade remained empty. The service was once again slow, although the pizzas were much better than the salads from the previous year. If a restaurant can not be bothered to even try to make customer happy but letting them order drinks a bit ahead of time or sit where they would like to sith point visiting it. Very disappoinnted."
