Decepção neste meu retorno a este restaurante tradicional. Os pratos não estavam saborosos!!! Por volta de 22h30 começaram a "fechar" mesmo com vários clientes ainda a comer!

Nice dinner on the terrace in Balzar The terrace is very pleasant and overlooks the street of schools which is rather quiet My niçoise salad was shielded with peppers; In dessert, I took the lost brioche. Very average food but very expensive. We only went because it was round the corner from our hotel, and we were too tired to go further. We only had one course each and it cost over €130 for four of us. By comparison the next evening we went to the Latin Quarter just down the road and had an outstanding three course meal for €15 a head. Do avoid it if you can.

Bof bof... Nous sommes restés déçus de notre diner au Balzar : attente interminable pour prendre la commande, service maladroit, cuisine lourde préparée sans un élémentaire savoir-faire (pied de porc froid à l'intérieur), vin de qualité médiocre… de plus, la vue sur les cuisines permet de constater que l’hygiène n’y est pas irréprochable : des personnes en civil y évoluent, et le chef lui-même manipule des objets derrière le comptoir avant de se remettre au fournaux… le tout pour un rapport qualité-prix qui ne donne vraiment pas envie de revenir. Et de fait, ce fut notre première et dernière expérience au Balzar !

This was our "go to" place in Paris for special occasion meals, the highlight of a trip back "home" to a place we lived in the '90s. Our recent visit (July 2017) was just sad. We ordered from the specials and the meat was overcooked. My favorite simple appetizer, oeuf dur mayonnaise, was tricked out with fluffy chive-sprinkled mayo that was clearly not homemade. We ordered wine that was neither cheap nor expensive -- and it was nearly undrinkable. And although the waiters still sported handlebar mustaches, they could not have acted more bored -- asked twice for small plate, butter knife and butter after basket of breads casually plunked on the table, not even a courtesy "excusez moi".
