"Who let the dogs out? I counted 35. They're everywhere including online (their website is thedogsonline.co.uk). All kidding aside , The Dogs dishes up some incredible Scottish comfort food. Located in and old Victorian walk up in New Town, this small, eclectic, homey space with its miss matched dishes and glasses provides the perfect backdrop to a meal of comfort foods. Stateside Yeeps think of the bistro in the arts or university district of your favorite city. Straight to it, the haggis. Don't cringe, it sounds worse than it really taste. Extremely flavorful, light livery flavor, chunky and simply delicious. The accompanying potato and cranberry hash adds a creaminess to the dish. Mixing the fried duck egg yolk and the whiskey sauce with heavy Scottish cream makes the flavors explode. You'll sit up and beg for more. The ox shin, barley, beer pie is outstanding. Well braised pieces of ox shin in a heavily extracted beefy soup with a hint of sour bitterness from the beer pairs perfectly with the barley and root vegetables. Dipping the buttery, flaky crust into the broth is an added enjoyment. A true tail wager. The only questionable flavor came from and Asian inspired duck confit. While the duck was perfectly cooked and the accompanying salad in prune vinaigrette delicious, the dish seemed a mismatch to the other classics on the menu. Finally for dessert, a warm, creamy toffee rice pudding topped with crisp, deep-fried honeycomb and dark chocolate. Great texture and flavor With complexity from honey. Sweet but not cloying. I definitely rollover for this. Short and very well chosen list of beer and wine. Very reasonable pricing. Extremely friendly and welcoming service. Overall a great value with most dishes less than 7£. Sit, stay, heel, speak, shake, jump, rollover, play dead. When it's this good, why not. Woof woof."

Food was pretty good. Had the basic fish chips because it was my last meal in edinburgh. The service was great. Two minor suggestions: 1. Make sure the beer is chilled properly. the beer i ordered was not cold. 2. Since the restaurant is named The Dogs perhaps, have more pictures of dogs on the wall. Other than the big picture behind the bar, there was a dearth of dog pictures on the remaining walls. Thanks Dog.

Little gem in Edinburgh. Corky and one of a kind, you will find yourself in a cute restaurant with dog memorabilia on the walls and genuine flavorful food in your plate. I tasted the Haddock soup that is smoky and very tasty. I highly recommend it. The fresh 6degres north beer from Aberdeen is sharp Then the traditional Scottish Haggis with neep and a well buttered potatoes purée is worth the trip there. The deserts didn't stay in my mind as much as the rest. Paws up to the chef.

The food had good flavor, but there wasn't much of it and it was over-priced. The hostess told me that I only had an hour that I could be there. Is that a common thing for restaurants nowadays? I've never had a restaurant tell me I had a time limit that I could enjoy my food.

Very good food and service (while there). Started with the goat cheese and fig which was very good then both me and my husband had the lamb chop, and ended with the cheese plate with chutney. The only down side is when we made the reservation the lady said we only had 45 minutes to eat and they would kick us out even if we weren't done... We ended up getting to the restaurant early and it was dead (it picked up later) but we asked for any time so not sure why she needed to put us down for later and rush us... Did feel very rushed through dinner because of this so what could have been 5 stars is a 3.5 experience overall. You definitely need a reservation so be sure to make one. They turned qu...

Wonderful little restaurant a mere block or so from our lodging at the Royal Scots Club. Naively, I tried to walk in at 20:00 on a Friday night but the very colorful waiter/host (you'll know the one...the bearded thespian fellow) mad it clear we weren't getting in that night. Determined, I made a reservation for the following evening. We returned, triumphant, on Saturday, and assumed a cute table in the back room for a lovely dinner. The ever-changing menu is a foodie's delight, with appetizers that are as inventive as they are inviting (they can make questionable dishes sound amazing). My main was an 18oz rib eye steak, served with chips, beef tomato, smoked garlic butter. Pretty good beer...

We were only in Edinburgh for 2 nights, but The Dogs is so good that we had dinner here twice. The Dogs turned up on the Yelp App, and being dog lovers and seeing 4 Yelp stars, I had to try it. Far from the Royal Mile, but not far from our hotel, there wasn 't a single tourist in this local filled restaurant. The dog decor is brilliant! £5.75 Mussels...these are huge! And tasty! £10.45 Hake...cooked perfectly in an amazing non-spicy green curry sauce. £12.85 Mutton...very tender and meaty, very filling, and very good £11 Wolf fish and mussels...great combination in lovely sauce. £4.45 strawberry rice pudding...wife loved it, but i hated it. £5.55 honeycomb brownie marshmallow dessert...good...

Really enjoyed my lovely dinner here after wanting to try it out for ages. I thought it would be more like a pub, but it's a smaller than that and often busy so we booked a table. Lengthy spirits and beer list (no cocktails) and a lovely wine list, including a few available in 500ml carafes of you don't feel like splashing out on a full bottle. Meat dishes are the star of the show here. Our starter was deviled ox kidney with bacon on crusty dark bread and the flavors were wonderful. I had a major carb craving that night and had the cauliflower macaroni cheese, which was very good, and my dining companion had a beautifully prepared, juicy lamb chop. We had a hard time deciding on mains becaus...

I came here on the recommendation from the Lonely Planet guide. This restaurant is simple in decor and they have a menu that must change often (I did not see any of the dishes in the previous photos posted on Yelp). The menu is small and all of the dishes are very good. I had stopped by earlier in the day to make a reservation for later in the evening and was a little put off by the host, who gave me attitude for simply asking if I could make a booking. I don't know exactly why. But the server in the evening was lovely. I was a little disappointed that some of the dishes I had seen in the previous Yelp reviews were not on the menu. I felt lost when ordering without photos to guide me! I enjo...

The Dogs came highly recommended to us but I wasn't impressed. We started off with the bread and butter (a menu item, not gratis). The butter was unsalted and relatively flavorless. While the bread was fresh and wet with an interesting whole grain color and texture, it also was bland tasting. The ox liver pate on toast was absolutely delicious the best thing of the night [A+ . The pig ear salad was very small in size and went big on the red onions while the pig ear itself was chewy and tasteless. I ordered the haggis, which was good but the turnip mash it came with was even better. My dad ordered the fish n' chips, which I tried and gave the thumbs up for the fish. The pea mash it came with...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
