"Saw the good-looking varied menu on the website a few days before our visit with friends. On arrival we found there was no main menu but only Spanish tapas and paella. Among the tapas the tortilla was too salty; the “pan con tomate” was brown bread toasted! This also had a slice of (perhaps) Spanish ham which was cut far too thick and was so tough and chewy it was inedible. At least the chunks of potato were fine, but the aioli was thin and tasteless. The seafood paella was the worst we have ever eaten. Tough, dry overcooked mussels, the slices of pepper tasted as though they were straight from a jar and the rice had no fish flavour whatsoever. Absolutely nothing like a Spanish paella where the right variety of rice should have absorbed good quality fish stock. We have spent a lot of time each year in Spain for the last 25 years so do hope customers eating this atrocity don’t think it’s a true reflection of Spanish food. The only dessert was hot brownie and ice cream. Very good to begin with but as the brownie had obviously been microwaved too long it gradually became harder and more solid until I couldn’t get my spoon into it and gave up crunching through it. How could they get that wrong too?!"

We stopped here for a drink during a walk along Devil's Dyke. We all agreed that we need to come back for a meal. If the food is half as good as the service and welcome it's going to be very good. Watch this space for my review

We stumbled upon this pub at the end of the Dyke. We sat outside in the beer garden and had a lovely braised beef lunch with an excellent Yorkshire pudding. Very tasty. The pudding was nice too, an apple and caramel pie. All the ladies who served us were pleasant and friendly. We’d definitely return here.

We stopped unexpectedly here whilst out on a bike ride..it started to rain heavily so we decided to take cover inside. We were given a warm welcome and told about the fish, chip and a coffee for 2 for ten pounds Friday offer.not much point in trying to resist that! It was so fresh and delicious. I’d definitely go back; what a nice find this place was!

Reach is a very quaint village that looks how you might imagine it to have been fifty years ago (except for the Fibre broadband cabinet). The pub is no exception. Not remotely twee or gastropub like but a proper old school country pub. It was towards the end of the pandemic stage 4 so the menu was limited but my fish and chips were delicious! Great value too.

We booked the night before (easy via the website and received a wonderful welcome. Because of lockdown we were the only customers (there was another reservation, but they didn’t turn up but the atmosphere was lovely: log fire, Christmas tree, unobtrusive seasonal music. As to the food it was simply excellent, delicious game pie and lamb casserole followed by a warming bread and butter pudding. It’s a perfect little pub.

Called in for drinks Table service due to covid Waitress very young too young to drink her words knew nothing about what beer was on offer. No lemon in the gin and tonic Fever tree on receipt shwepps given to us. Yet another poor setup with no actual service to speak of. Why oh why can 't the simplest of functions of a service industry like a pub serving drinks only be got right? Won 't be back unless I hear things have significantly improved- a real shame because it 's in a beautiful location

Came here yesterday evening on very short notice after we walked out of the (nameless) venue we 'd booked earlier as the bar menu on offer last night (all that was available) at the latter was so mean and unimaginitive. When we phoned The Dyke 's End to check that they were doing meals and had space at such short notice we were warned that it was a 'reduced menu ' because it was just before lockdown. But that included Game Pie (and with a drink included because it was a Wednesday)! And when we got there it was splendid. In fact the menu was so good (despite being reduced) that we had a starter and dessert as well. Very well-managed social distancing, yet still with a cosy atmosphere (because...

"We were here for a family reunion on Fathers Day. I was going to give 3 stars but having had no response to 2 feedback emails that I sent I have downgraded it. This is the honest feedback that I sent: I’d like to thank you for your help in putting our family meet together. We were pleased with the comfort and ambience of the area where we were sat. We also felt the staff were pleasant and courteous. The meals and the drinks received a mixed feedback. We felt that the vegetables and sauces were very good although a group of 4 were given a small dish of green vegetables to share. Some time later a request for more green vegetables was dealt with but the timing was not good. The fish and chips were commonly well received. I’m afraid that the other aspects of food and drink and most importantly ORGANISATION were poor. When we arrived a waiter came over to take orders of the people that had not placed an advanced order. 2 people at one end of the table asked about the ordered drinks and had to say what they ordered and their order was delivered. I was a little concerned that 2 coffees ordered for the sweets of Peter and Jenny were bought with those 2 drinks but they seemed OK with taking them then and despite all the complaints in this email I don’t want to find fault. At my end of the table the waiter told me that he would come to me with my order but he must have forgotten. Starters were brought for those few that ordered them and a waitress eventually came through to enquire if everyone was OK. I said me and my wife were still waiting for our drinks order. After another 10 minutes someone cam back with the 2 decaf flat whites that we ordered for the end of the meal. Unfortunately the waiter, who was clearly distressed to be told to take them back and bring the correct drinks order, wished to engage with me in a disagreement about where the fault for this lay in front of all my family. This did upset me. Eventually my ale and my wife’s wine was delivered to us – it had taken over 90 minutes to arrive and both the ale was tainted and the red wine not pleasant. In addition the 2 pre ordered drinks were brought for a second time! The poor organisation also meant the meals did not arrive in good time. After nearly 2 hours most people had not had a bite to eat. The meat was very poor. The beef was inedible (very tough) and the poor standards of both meats was fed back to a waitress. By the time that sweets arrived staff was particularly flustered. The sweets came so late that 3 of the people that had ordered ice creams had to leave to catch their train. Again our drinks were forgotten so I asked for the 2 decaf flat whites. These were eventually brought but they were luke warm. My wife felt embarrassed for the staff so she drunk hers anyway as she did not want another accusatory conversation in front of our group. I had to ask for mine to be replaced as I felt that it was unpleasant. That concludes my feedback although I should say that there were other deficiencies. You have been warned!"
