"Three British families who have come to this area every summer for on average 10 years met up for dinner here on a Monday evening. Helpfully the restaurant is open on a Monday evening unlike most in the area. None of us recognise the experience of the previous UK reviewer. On the contrary, we were of the view that this is one of the best places in the area.We went for the Renaissance menu at 36 euros. The dinner was wonderfully creative with masterchef-type twists. For example, the Dorade was beautifully cooked on a bed of interestingly woven vegetables. The puddings included a modern expression of a raspberry rolly-poly, called a 'Bras de gitan'. There is a good choice of local wines starting at 16 euros a bottle.The setting is what clinches the deal. The courtyard of a well-cared for medieval hotel chateau means you are surrounded by architectural beauty."

"First plus point we asked in advance to see a menu for the day we were going sorry, came the reply, but we prepare each day’s menu according to what’s available. We were not disappointed. The terrace where we ate is quiet and...shaded and unpretentious – like the whole place. We opted for the €20 menu – a ridiculously low price for the quality of food served – and although we had a few supplements, coffee and a bottle of remarkably tasty local pinot noir, the final bill was a most respectable €72.00. First courses included a delicious gazpacho and an equally good chèvre dish. Main courses were steak and pork, the latter wonderful but the former less imaginative a bit too big. We were invited to choose our lovely puds from a wide selection in the cold cabinet. All in all, a small restaurant well worth visiting and, as far as we could tell, almost certainly a cut above the posher-looking alternatives in the same village."

What a treat, the most amazing Christmas lunch..freshly prepared from the best ingredients, choices for each of the five courses, from smoked salmon mousse, wild mushroom filo parcel, roast capon ham, delicious succulent moist slices of contrasting meats), and all the trimmings, cheeses, brandied Xmas pudding, mince pies, personal Xmas crackers...the only thing missing was a table in the restaurant ! Anticipation was high having always cooked Christmas lunch for the last 40 years!! this is exceptional, no shopping, no preparation, with Lou Cantou having to close its doors Andy kept his customers delighted with a delivered feast instead. Looking forward to the day when Lou Cantou can re-open for its unique fine dining style in its charming setting. A new standard has been set by Andy in the heart of the Aude Valley."
