"Unfortunately not a great choice of beers. To eat, we ordered pork souvlaki and lamb chop as main courses 14 each). The pork was supposed to be marinated but came out pretty dry and tasteless. Not a big portion either (2 small-ish skewers). The tzatziki...was watery and hardly tasted of garlic. The salad was mainly limp iceberg lettuce with a watery yogurt dressing on pretty tasteless as well. The chips were good and the pitta was warm. But overall very bland and basic for the prices. The lamb chop was purely fatty and grizzly, there was hardly any proper meat on it. It had a very strong taste and seemed a very cheap cut. Vegetables served with the lamb were OK but again pretty cheap-tasting. Chopped-up, oily aubergine is a bit of an odd choice for a veg side dish, though. Service wasn't brilliant, either, we had to remind them twice to bring the tap water we had asked for with our other drinks. Nobody came and asked if we wanted any sauces (ketchup) or how or meal was, not even at the end when we paid. For those prices, I would have expected a relatively decent meal (not just made up of cheap ingredients) and half-way decent table service. The descriptions of the dishes on the specials board sound great and sophisticated, but unfortunately they don't live up to the hype. I only saw after our visit (on their Facebook page) that they are looking for a new chef. I wish I had known that before. I wouldn't go again, unfortunately. Ah yes, the table surface was sticky, too. No Covid measures in place whatsoever."

Really tasty lunch. Lovely place. Excellent staff. Just can’t find a negative to say. The chips are the best I have had from a pub. Just looking forward to next visit.

I visited a friend who lives in norton sub hamdon and we visited here on Friday night. I was so surprised to see such a busy village pub with all age groups of people who make the best of the place. we had a wonderful dinner, with great wine, served by super friendly staff. we managed to stumble at home. Thank you.

excellent lunch with friends in a beautiful village pub, right on the a303, complete with log-burning stove that gives the warm and welcoming atmosphere. easy staff that could not do enough. recommend the teriyaki tuna cooked with noodles and pak choi to perfection and. I'm really fussy and the vegan sweet potato and three bohnen chili. we're coming back!

Visited here for the first time on a Saturday pm. Girlfriend and l both had a lamb Bhuba The dish was clearly not a home cooked meal. Very poor quality to say the least. It was Luke warm and very little meat. I have eaten...better ready meals from Tesco. We did complain about the quality of the food, but, clearly our comments fell on death ears as we were charged full price with no apology. There are many pubs in the area serving good quality food. The Lord Nelson is NOT one of them. You deserve better than this rubbish, stay clear.

The Lord Nelson pride themselves on local produce, I beg to differ , special of the day, my partner had this ,chicken breast in cream and white wine sauce , the chicken was little more than a frozen tasteless piece of meat , the side...order of supposedly fresh veg, it was clearly left over from 2 days prior, from their Sunday roasts , dry and grey looking. The whole experience was somewhat disappointing, I had ham egg and chips , it was just “ok”, it was not the best I have ever had. I’m guessing some people would find the food to be good , however if you are a foodie and appreciate good quality food , this is not the place for you , or us!!

"Our first visit to The George Inn at Donyatt, we've drove by it time's going to other places and it always looks such a nice place. We decided to have lunchtime meal there to celebrate our anniversary and weren't disappointed, beamed ceilings, log burner and brick fireplace, farm tools and pictures on the walls cosy and oldie worldy with friendly locals just how we like our pubs. The staff and owner were really friendly, polite and chatted to us as if we locals from the village, the waitresses were smartly dressed, polite attentive always smiling, cheerful, charming and chatty. Even the chef nodded and smiled to us the couple of times he walked through and the bar and table areas were spotlessly clean. Our meals starters and mains were absolutely fantastic and amazing as was the presentation, they were hot good amounts of food with tender succulent meats and vegetables and the mashed potatoes were creamy smooth and light and have never had better. There's a good selection of beers and I had local ale which was amazing, clear, cool with a nice head and tasted like nectar. We will definitely be coming back soon and we can definitely recommend this pub, restaurant and hotel to family, friends, neighbours and anyone. A very big well done and thank you to the owners, all the staff especially the chef, please please please keep this pub the way it is, it's an absolute treasure and gem of a place to find. YOU ALL MADE OUR ANNIVERSARY VERY SPECIAL Especially in these times when a majority of local village pubs are closing down and being turned into houses or flats, we must all support our local village pubs like The George Inn."
