such a good experience one of the cooler spots on a very hot day. Staff were lovely; food was lovely; flowers were glorious my pic looks similar to 2019 must have been dahlia time then too stylish! thank you!

Very good pub food on Iffley Road. It is more of a gastro pub. We had sea bream and ribs. The food was slightly under cooked. Otherwise, it was very good. With the drinks the same. They were very good, but not perfect. They could do better.

Go for the lamb. Order the lamb. Be impressed with the big plate of lamb and eating implements. Eat the lamb. Sit back in delight at the taste and texture of the lamb. We came here as it came recommended… but were left really disappointed. We had the steak for two, but it was tough and not good at all. I don’t know what the cut of beef was but it resembled something that needed a long slow cook, not being served rare. It was tough as old boots and we were really very disappointed :

We held our wedding breakfast here. The staff were amazing, food exceptional. Was a wonderful day made all the more special by the attention to detail and effort made by all at the Magdalen arms. Would highly recommend visiting here and if you’re looking for somewhere to hold a small gathering, from experience I would say this is the perfect venue.

This was our second visit here and we liked it even better than before. The menu is very different from most pubs. We ordered the Gloucester Old Spot schnitzel and chips. The schnitzel was HUGE bigger than places in Germany that advertise biggest schnitzel in Munich (or whatever city). It was actually served on a platter rather than a plate. On top of that, it 's all very good. You are also served focaccia bread and olive oil homemade bread and simply delicious. Plus, they offer table service very rare for a pub. In short, loved it! We recently spent three weeks in Oxford and this highly recommended pub became our local. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the ever changing menu was good and we tried many items from the menus. Our favourite being the mussels, fat, juicy and perfectly cooked, the fish chip’s delicious, the steak for two perfectly prepared and served was amazing., in fact we were never disappointed with our menu choices. Gluten free beers and wonderful wine selection. A small shop in the corner is a lovely place. A great outside seating area with shady spots just the thing on a warm sunny day. We will be back. We've been here many times before and had a great meal but this was my first visit since being diagnosed as coeliac and the experience was pretty poor. My partner had checked when booking that they could cater for gluten free diners but they seemed totally unprepared, they shared the menu but just crossed out everything I couldn't eat there was very little left and on some meals where things like chips or bread were crossed off there was no indication of whether they would substitute with anything else instead. Overall I felt like an inconvenience which was really sad as we don't often eat out and it should be a special experience.

Not as good as we had expected. The pub has a nice warm ambience and the staff were welcoming and efficient. The food we got (especially the beef pie for two) was fine, but the choice was limited. We came on a Saturday evening and there were no steaks or partridge available from the short regular menu, and almost all of the blackboard 'specials ' had already sold out. Our goulash starter arrived cold and the bread came with a minimal amount of olive oil. Wine and other drinks were served in cheap tumblers and only one of the half dozen non alcoholic beers listed on the menu was available and it came in an unopened can. £200 for four.
