"I've been to The Tramways the last 2 years for my birthday and it was great. This year I booked, saying that I was gluten free. We arrived very small and not very exciting menu only 5 of each course. I asked the waitress to check on what I could have that was gluten free she said no starter's and just one main course, I then spoke to the chef, I could have had the salmon also but they had run out of it (only serving 5 tables that evening) so I had the only main I was allowed to have a ribeye steak for a whopping £26, which turned out to be inedible as it was all fat no meat, a friend on the table also had the steak which was the same. We complained and didn't have to pay for those, so I hardly ate anything for my birthday meal. I was quite impressed they had a gluten free brownie on the dessert menu. But I was so disappointed by then I just wanted to leave. Don't bother not the same now Mark G has left."

Just had the most fantastic evening at Markg's, for starters the mussels were amazing and then for my main the lemon sole was the best i have ever tasted then to finish the cheese board which was superb . Even thou it was really busy all the staff are so attentive and there was a great atmosphere .

Reading the reviews we expected better but if you leave fish too long waiting for the other dish it will overcook. Not very often we send food back but overcooked fish is a Nono.Very nice staff who dealt with the complaint well but it was too late night spoilt.Maybe we were unlucky. However just because you have a large party of 12+ don’t forget your tables of 2.

Excellent all round. Met some friends who were very impressed with the food. As a vegetarian I was pleased not to be offered risotto! The atmosphere was great, not noisy but enough people to give it a good buzz.Staff were on the ball and very proffessional from the moment we walked in. Have booked again! It is not a cheap evening but worth every peny! Thank you!

If you fancy seafood give this place a try. Went with girlie friend last night and I chose the dressed crab whilst she went for the garlic prawns. We both had smoked haddock, mash, poached egg and green veg. I ask if I could swap the greens for samphire and that wasn’t a problem. Washed down with a lovely glass of red, followed by a coffee. Service was of the highest quality as was the food, would highly recommend and definitely be back.

A very nicely styled restaurant in the old Blue Anchor. Booking is I think essential as there aren 't a huge number of covers but there are enough to give a lovely 'buzz '. The service is exemplary not too pushy (but please don 't keep coming to top up the wine! . Wait times for food are spot on. We had the lobster soup and smoked fish board to start both excellent. Hake and sole 'cordon bleu ' to follow with a side of deliciously young, crisp buttery samphire. The wine list if fine although I would 've liked to see a white with a little less acidity, (perhaps a Picpoul de Pinet or another white from Herault but that 's just my personal taste. A really lovely evening.

Great to visit Markg in its new home at the Old Blue Anchor. The place has been really well renovated and it is smart and stylish without being fussy. The menu is similar to previous incarnation at the Tramways with a focus on fish. We enjoyed the butter bean hummus and crackers snack which was plenty for two; the skate and the turbot were beautifully cooked, and our desserts of sour cherry cheesecake and Guinness chocolate cake were excellent. Only quibble was I didn't think the crispy seaweed worked with the turbot. Good to see Green Jack and Lacons beers too, both were very good. Staff were friendly and efficient too. Couldn't ask for more really, great to have Markg back and now on our s...

Changed hands since last visit and a complete contrast. The menu is not a challenge and despite this the quality of food is average at best.I doubt I have ever experienced such surly or rude waiting staff.I have read the only other review since the change of management and can only conclude they were far from independent given the experience of our group. At the end of a distinctly forgettable meal (approx 2220 hrs) we were presented with the bill before we asked for it,we had intended to have another drink. When we mentioned this the man (assume the manager) stated that he just wanted to get cleared up and get home to bed.All in all an unpleasant experience and seemingly contrary to the vision...

"Having been a regular customer for over a decade to The Bell Inn, I was left very underwhelmed this time. Room was lovely and clean as usual, Tom on reception was fab. We chose to dine in the restaurant as normal and booked for 730pm so we had a nice long evening to enjoy eating and drinking. The menu is now very limited compared to previous years, we chose to have 4 starters to share and some rose wine with bread to start. Slight delay on bread, which came crammed on a small plate, which we had to ask for side plates after waiting for the waitress to reappear…the oil and balsamic was awful, there was so much oil chucked in the ramekin we had to ask for another, to pour some off to try and get to the vinegar. Food came out, and was put on table, again had to ask for side plates as we were sharing and still had bread on the other ones. No drinks check. Had to wait at bar to order more. Food was mediocre at best, we both have very good appetites especially after the harbour walk and some wine! but both ended up just picking at it. Ended up going to room with our wine very early, the only other table in the restaurant that was occupied had some sort of problem ordering due to “fryers being turned off” and got sandwiches and chips instead! Slept well as usual. Went for a quick dog walk before breakfast and narrowly avoided being hit by the chef arriving at 845am in the car park. Arrived on time for breakfast at 9am, lovely, lovely waitress served us, ordered full English and pot of tea, partner the same with coffee. Took a sip of the tea and it was barely lukewarm… spoke to waitress who was very apologetic and bought me a fresh one, turns out the rest of the room all had the same problem with tea and coffee as the urn hadn’t been turned on in time see chef comment food came out and was delicious and hot, and top quality as usual, we cleared our plates! Room was spotlessly clean, and the Tyneham hand wash/cream is so good! Overall disappointing as I know how good this place can be, and the first time I’ve ever encountered any problems. As stated before it was not busy in the slightest compared to previous years, so no excuse really. I will return as The Bell holds dear memories for me, I hope next year it will have ironed out these problems and be back to full glory!"
