"3.5. A good experience alright for a special occasion, but I expected better (in certain areas) for a restaurant that’s supposed to be one of the topmost in Scotland. Food is classic French, done by a Scottish chef and the restaurant has been around for several decades. The restaurant is small ish, with simple decor; some tables are awkwardly arranged so asked to be moved. Service was cordial but lacking. I’d expect the waitstaff to give more background on the restaurant, the provenance of the food, and details on what we were eating such details were not supplied. This changes the dining experience. Frustratingly, cups, cutlery and plates lingered on the table long after serving their purposes. Nobody was bussing. Things were cluttered. The restaurant arranged desserts in a delightfully ornate arrangement for a birthday … but they initially forgot about said birthday, and had to confiscate what we were eating before re presenting. All in all, great food and a fun experience, but not super deserving of £600 for 3."

The food at this restaurant is exceptional. The Halibut ceviche from Gigha was absolutely divine. The perfect pairing of food, wine, and service made for a truly memorable evening. The entire team was outstanding.

The guest service at this restaurant was fantastic and the meal portions were just right. I highly recommend trying the Tasting Menu with the matching wines. It was a perfect experience from beginning to end. I will definitely be returning soon.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at this restaurant. It was my first time dining at a Michelin star restaurant and it exceeded my expectations. Paul and his staff were exceptional. My favorite dishes were the seaweed butter, Orkney scallop, passion fruit dessert, and coffee with petit fours.

We recently celebrated our son's 21st birthday at this restaurant, and it was an exceptional meal. The staff were super friendly, making us feel welcome and well taken care of. The tasting menus were fantastic, and being able to switch dishes from the vegetarian menu added extra flexibility. This restaurant is a great destination in Edinburgh, particularly for my wife, daughter, and myself who were visiting from London. Kudos to all!

I was just underwhelmed. I put this place on a pedestal and it didn't meet my expectations. The atmosphere was fairly sterile and it felt like I was in a retirement home. The food was presented beautifully and with quality ingredients but just didn't wow me. It lacked any sort of bold flavor and was more mild and subtle. I get the desire to present quality fresh ingredients but they just sort of melted together. We did the tasting menu and I only enjoyed maybe 3 out of the 7-8 things presented. The accompanying wines were great, and nice to see a variety. Overall Ive been more satisfied at other fine dining establishments for half the price. I left here feeling like it wasn't worth it.

I visited this restaurant for lunch and opted for the regular menu instead of the tasting menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavors in the amuse bouche and bread, which included 6 or 7 different simple yet tasty options. The atmosphere had a traditional feel with marble and formal waiters, and the decor was fresh and comfortable. The service from the wait staff was great, although there were a few hiccups such as the drinks menu going missing and not being able to make a White Russian cocktail. The food, however, was faultless with simple flavors for starters and more complex options for the main course and dessert. Overall, despite a few issues, the experience was enjoyable...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
