"Previously we were regular diners art the clones to the pandemic. as oaps we feel a bit safer to dare so we decided to celebrate our high-time day there last week. we were aware that there has been a change in management in the pub lately. the service and eating were excellent at previous visits. I booked a table for a weekend slot. when we arrived, we should have been warned of a little dislike, because in contrast to other nearby facilities the parking was almost empty. When we came in, we found that there were only a few. (although the time when we were there, the total number of customers, including us, only ten total.) we have only announced our arrival to say that there are no records about our booking. the girl that met us then asked if we had booked under another name – what we had not. another employee member was called who asked the same question again. even after the email confirmation, the staff still murmured that there must be a mistake – and make it harder that it was our mistake! as well, with an almost empty pub restaurant, I cannot see why it would be a problem to find a table for two. we sat. we ordered a wine and a soft drink. the drinks only arrived after the appetizers. In the meantime, another group of four had arrived. I heard they complained about the long waiting period until you were ordered. when the starter finally arrived, the man in the party only commented on the slow service to work from the waitress who, aggressively, according to my opinion, said that they work with two employees. safe, even with two employees, they could handle only ten customers in total. the menu at the crown has changed slightly since the pre-covid and my favorite starter is no longer included. our other food was in order, but the service was appalling. I think everyone who cares in this night would agree. we will not come back until we know that there is a shaker-up of service and keeping of the personal that is a candid, as before covid we probably dinate there, and entertain friends there, at least once in the month."

very disappointing. was a Sunday afternoon at 14 o'clock, we sat in the garden. many tables inside and outside had not been cleaned or had plates etc. removed from them. in which we were there, nothing was done. we ordered food that arrived almost an hour and were cold chips, so sent back. very small and rather sad. When my friend asked about contingencies, she was told “I am busy dealing with it”... great customer service. will not go again. three do much better.

Stopped for lunch travelling from Wales to Highcliffe. Ordered a chicken sandwich and chips and a fish finger sandwich on fresh crusty roll with chips. Ordered at 1.58 delivered to table at 2.40. My fish finger sandwich consisted of burnt batter with hardly any fish...inside covered in tartare sauce to hide I imagine. Not in a fresh crusty roll but burnt toast. The chips were disgusting. Absolutely terrible. This is undoubtedly the worst lunch experience of my life. Don’t write many reviews but had to review this place. Just awful that’s all I can say.

We’ve used this vintage inn many times , it was probably the best in the chain , one of my previous reviews mentions this. But sadly today it didn’t come up to usual high standards . The service was good and friendly but the food...came out lukewarm on cold plates ……so within minutes our roast dinners we cold, we did mention to our server, she said they could be warmed through. We declined this as it does nothing for the quality of the food, vegetables and potatoes will become soggy, meat dry) My husband ordered another pint of ale and the wrong one came ! So after spending just under £50 we left feeling slightly disappointed, not sure if we’d bother returning. Very sad

Really disappointed. Took mum for lunch, we ordered starters and mains, we had the mushrooms and the Camembert, took 30 mins to come out to find the Camembert Lukewarm, and the toast stale! For mains (again took another 40min) we had a fish finger sandwich...which came with fries which were again lukewarm and tasted like they had been sat in the frier for ages with the amount of grease, so I asked for a replacement and they defiantly gave me the same chips just re heated them as my mums chips that came with her ham hock sandwich were hot and tasted fresh, with the ham hock again sandwich poorly assembled with the tiniest bit of cheese and the sourdough was practically burnt we even struggled...

We have been visiting the Crown over the years and normally there is no cause for complaint. Sadly this visit was the exception. We booked for Mothers Day and took my elderly mother there for lunch. Service was fine and the front of house staff...was exceptional which sadly was not backed up by the food produced by the kitchen staff. The starters comprising soup and mushrooms were fine. Things went downhill for there, the main course was probably the worst I have seen for some time. The roast potatoes had about 5mm of solid carbon on the bottom, the vegetables were overcooked and just mush. The side order of cauliflower cheese was 80% stalk, undercooked and virtually no cheese on it. The veg...

After having previously enjoyed visiting the Crown, we recently returned and were extremely disappointed with our experience. We had booked ahead as it was a sunny weekend but we’re running a few minutes late so tried calling ahead to notify of our slightly delayed arrival....After trying 5 times nobody was answering the phone so we rushed as quick as we could to arrive on time. Upon arrival it was clear that we didn’t need to rush as the place was pretty much empty. Despite this we were left waiting for 5 minutes at the front reception area with the waitress walking back and forth past us without acknowledging our arrival. It took me having to engage with the waitress myself for her to then...

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
