"We live nearby and decided to take a walk with our two dogs, planning to have lunch at the pub based on good feedback in the Visitors Book. However, upon arriving at the pub just after noon, we found out they didn't open until 2pm during the off season. Disappointed, we went to see the lighthouse at Scrumble Head and returned at 2:15pm. Unfortunately, we were informed that only the evening menu was available and they didn't serve lunch on weekdays. Disappointed, we left and do not plan on returning. We informed another group arriving about the lack of lunch service, causing them to leave as well. It seems like a missed opportunity for the pub in terms of revenue. It would be helpful for holiday cottages to inform guests about this policy. Overall, a disappointing experience."

Been many times over the years and it’s great to see the pub busy and serving great food. Had the burger which was excellent. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and the live music is brilliant. Well worth a visit.

Our experience at this restaurant was once again delightful. The staff and locals were welcoming, and the combination of great beer and food has made it one of our favorite pubs in the area. It is worth noting that this is a quiet time of year for pubs in this region, so it is advisable to check if they are serving food before making a visit. Speisekarte ansehen

Lovely lunch on a sunny day away from the crowds in Porthgain. So good to see the rejuvenation of this village pub. The lunch menu is straightforward pub food but very well executed with good quality ingredients so tasty cheese and proper scampi. A good range of beers and lagers kept in great condition. Add to that a warm welcome, pleasant beer garden with beautiful country views all 10 minutes walk from the coast path.

Fantastically kept local Welsh beers and delicious food. Warm and welcoming both to locals and holiday makers alike. The staff were fabulous chatty and informative of the local attractions. We were made to believe this was out longstanding local, although we were only there for the week. Hats off to Andrew out friendly barman who even came in on his day off to say goodbye. Can’t praise the place any more highly. Top notch!

This is an absolutely delightful pub in the village of Trefin. The bar staff are amazing, warm and welcoming; very happy to greet the dogs too. Superb food, served very quickly considering how busy it is. The pub has an excellent selection of beers and ciders all in appropriate glasses! Very good value for money, all served in a snug, old school but very clean and organised public bar. Couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Speisekarte ansehen

We walked the coast path and managed to catch the sunset at the Trefin end of the walk and called into the Shop Inn for a drink and hopefully a meal if they were still serving. They sure were we were the only ones in at the time and got 2 great pizzas some of the best Elderflower drink that wifey has ever tasted and got a can to take away with us too! My Dog Enzo also got his own dog bowl. We narrowly missed out on chocolate pavlova but we’d love to come back earlier another day and give it a go! Great place and great staff many thanks.

A lovely friendly country pub with a good atmosphere, serving great food. Our family of six enjoyed a great meal together with wonderful views of the countryside and excellent service. The portions were large and everything was really fresh. A couple of us had pizzas which were very tasty with a thin crust, I had a flavourful burger which came with a nice sauce and fresh salad. The others had fish and chips which were truly amazing. The fish was covered in a light batter and we all commented on our lovely chips. We would definitely visit again.

"And lucky old us wow! This was a great surprise, we had no idea we were coming into something so unusual and so good. The garden space is very big and on the lawn, amongst the flowers, herbs and vegetable beds sit tables and chairs, mainly made of roughly hewn wood, plus tenty sheddy structures with heaters, teepee looking things and probably other structures I didn't take in.We were there when it was dark and there were strings of lights throughout the garden and it was all stunning and rather difficult to take in!The service was occasionally scatty but always well meaning and pleasant and mostly very professional and rightly proud of what they do, the place and the food they serve. The food! We were so thrilled with the food after some not very good experiences locally and, as others have said, we wished we'd found it earlier and been able to book another night.I had the pork belly which must have been cooking for hours, apart from the rind (not exactly crackling but still crispy and wonderful) I could cut the meat with my fork love to know how to achieve it. No taste had been lost in the cooking process and the fat was there but was kind of crumbly so it was gorgeous. And it came with great slices of home pickled carrot and fennel which was just delicious with a hint of sweetness and a hint of spice. And a puree which I believe was cauliflower. And don't forget the delicious little black pudding rissole that comes with it.As you can see, I could go on and on! My partner loved his succulent lamb, which was served with the same vegetables. Oh, and we had side dishes of seasonal greens and roasted beetroot and goats cheese these were also yummy and well flavoured, side dish didn't mean unimportant.Sadly, we didn't have dessert, what can I say, bet they're ace. This is far too long, do visit if you can it's a real treat with great cooking and lovely people."
