"We booked a table, for dinner, at the Crown and Cushion based on the menu we had seen online. On arriving at the venue, the same online menu was clearly displayed at the entrance. On entering we were immediately posed with the question of where do we need to go? We finally spotted a sign for the restaurant and made our way in that direction. We lurked at the restaurant entrance for a few moments before we were approached. We explained that we had booked a table and were told to sit anywhere. Perplexed by the lack of recognition of our booking, we repeated that we had a table booked and were simply waved to the empty tables. We picked a table and were then left to contemplate our surroundings; no offer of drinks, no menus. This, in hindsight was a mistake as the decor, furnishings and carpets are all very dated and the longer we sat waiting the more this became clear. i began to wonder if we were actually in the right place, the surroundings did not match the online pictures and descriptions. As we sat waiting, things got even worse, water began to run from the light and fan above our table. We can only assume that a resident had decided to take a shower, however, when we finally managed to flag somebodies attention, they did not seem concerned, initially dabbing the table dry as if that would be sufficient. Eventually a couple of other staff arrived, the first began pulling the fan cord and seemed to indicate that it still worked, before we were finally offered an alternative table.Once re seated we were presented with a menu , on a scruffy sheet of paper this seemed to be linked to the Eat out to help out scheme. Well i say menu, it had one dish detailed, no explanation was given . Trying to be positive, we said that the menu would be sufficient for two of us, however, my wife does not eat meat and would need an alternative. A new menu was then thrust at us, however, this still bore no resemblance to the menu seen online and the choice was very poor. There was a real lack of clarity from the staff regarding the menus, there appeared to be no interest. Given the time it had taken to receive the menus and the response to the water, we had no confidence that we would receive appropriate service and decided to leave."

"Arrived asking if still did food service at 14:20 to be told unfortunately food stopped at 2pm, but they can offer basket meals at the price of £8.50. Simple selection but with my mother of 78, it wasn 't ideal but we went with the flow. We paid an astonishing £36 for food and drinks for three. whilst ordering the drinks, some small talk from the barman/owner about a old mate coming down and that he 'd been 'Heineken 'd and probably feeling it later ' was the bar mans choice of words whilst serving us and discussing his day with other punters. Great! We chose to sit in the court yard, sun trap and beautiful but unfortunately smokers were there. Other couples we 're also informed of the late food basket ordering offered, some 20 minutes after us. Their food arrived within 10 minutes of them ordering. I then asked where our food was as it had been 48 minutes since ordering It takes time to burn the sausages he replied! (my mom asked for well done sausages! not burnt to a crisp! The meals arrived and to my shock, the content of the baskets of food was appalling! I asked for more chips as I had only 19 slim chips in the basket, yet the extras we asked for arrived within 5 minutes of complaining and asking for more. He thought it was so funny to make us wait 45 minutes for burnt sausages whilst clearing the plates away! Very disappointing to what seemed a good looking place! In summary, avoid if possible, as there are many other good food outlets in the area."
