"I’m frustrated and annoyed with booking a romantic meal for our year wedding anniversary, with the current pandemic and work commitments it made a change to make an effort and be excited to visit the boxing hare as the reviews had been excellent. We...were seated in the garden room, next to a family who were on first name terms with the waiting staff and who were so loud I thought I was at a Chelsea match! We received complimentary glasses of champagne and we placed our order for starters and main which were excellent however I felt rushed with the service, as much as I tried to have a conversation all I could hear was this family at decibels to which enough was enough usually I would say something, however rather than ruin there evening I asked for us to be reseated to which the waiting staff were in agreement that they were loud! So why place us next to them? We were given a table in a different part of the pub still busy with other diners giving respect to one another. The table given I was advised I had as it was reserved? I placed dessert order and two lattes with baileys followed by the bill! The bill was a tad on the steep side for a gastro pub perhaps the prices are based on the price of fuel to fill the owners Bentley Overall felt it was a rushed evening disappointed with the seating arrangements,I won’t be returning as I felt what was important to us wasn’t important to the Boxing Hare I’ve had better evenings at The Falkland Arms Great Tew, The Great Western Aynho"

"The photograph on Trip Advisor’s website of The Lamb’s cheeseburger French fries is entirely accurate but also entirely nauseating – a meat patty buried within a sloppy mess of stuff (see photo on this website) which, other than the cheese, we neither expected nor...requested. When trying to hold the bun and take a bite of it, the beef patty slithered out from its gunge onto the plate. Granted, there was a knife fork but what's the point of a cheeseburger if you can't grip the bun and bite into it? (Thinks: I wish I’d read Trip Advisor’s reviews on The Lamb in advance rather than afterwards. I would have just ordered a packet of crisps) On a positive note, we didn't throw up. Certainly we couldn't face eating again that evening we ended up sharing a tin of soup and a packet of crisps. The outdoor terrace was a pleasant spot for a lunchtime snack. The bill was (two cheeseburgers French fries at each plus for wine and fizzy water). Thinking positive, we saved money that evening by feeling too queasy to have more than a mug of soup and some crisps. Almost forgot: the French fries were excellent; what’s the betting they weren’t bought in?! The waitress service was pleasant. About two thirds of these “slopburger” were left on our respective plates. The waitress didn’t comment as they took away the plates. Fair enough- what could she possibly say? “I don’t blame you!” ? Next day I rang the manager or someone in charge to explain my disappointment, taking a gentle exploratory approach. To no avail. He insisted it was “a proper cheeseburger”. So maybe it’s me. Or maybe there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Try it and see."

"Nine of us made a reservation a few months in advance for a Christmas night out. We paid a deposit and selected our food choices. The reservation was for 7pm, but two weeks before the night we were asked to come at 6pm due to a large party coming in. We were seated away from the main dining area next to the outdoor smoking area. We waited at least half an hour before anyone came to our table. The starters we ordered arrived and were fine, but when our main meals came, only 7 out of the 9 were brought out. It was clear that the missing meals hadn't been cooked with the order. Two of our group had to wait another 20 minutes for their meals while the rest of us finished eating. The manager apologized and offered the delayed meals for free, which we accepted. However, when desserts arrived, 5 of them were incorrect and had to be replaced. Drinks that were not ours were also brought to our table, and despite telling the waiter, he insisted they were for us. The service was extremely poor and seemed to be in total chaos. None of the waiting staff checked on us during the meal, and both the main courses and desserts were incorrect, which was disappointing considering we had made our choices months in advance. The manager apologized again and offered a small discount on the bill, but we have no intention of ever booking this restaurant for a planned meal again. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and meal."
