the oysterage, as the name already says, is known for the oysters who were first cultivated after the second world war by the greener richard pinney on old betten in the nearby Butley-Kreek. they also serve their own smoked products as well as a selection of seasonal fresh fish dishes and homemade plucks.

We had such a lovely lunch and are so glad we made the trip to Orford to eat here! We hadn’t booked but the lady at the front desk was so kind and found us a table for an hour’s time, which turned out to be ready sooner which was great. .we ordered the grill plate, which contained grilled mushles in brothcrumbs and crusts, sardines, garnelen squid. everything was cooked to perfection and as Jamie said, is simple and humble. everything except the mush that, after my opinion, completely takes over the taste of the bum itself. other than that, it was a perfect plate of seafood. served with sweet fresh soft bread, butter, mayo lemon. simple and tasty.

This fish restaurant is in a great location. Looking out onto the High Street. Service was quick, and the team was very responsive to our initial mix-up on arrival. Tables are close together, but this all adds to the great atmosphere. Large menu including oysters, eel, crab, grilled dover sole, skate and sea bass with additional special courses. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals, especially the fish cakes and lobster. However, everything was a bit brown in terms of presentation. Expect to spend £60-£70 per head with drinks and 12.5% service charge.

A bunch of us came here for lunch on a Saturday and it was a great experience. The restaurant is quite small with pretty basic decor, but that all adds to the rustic feel. The most important thing is the food, and that was delicious. We shared Oysters and I ordered the crab cakes for a starter and the sea bass for the main. The oysters were excellent quality and the sea bass off the bone was cooked to perfection. It was all washed down with a couple of bottles of crisp white wine that made for a most enjoyable afternoon.
