Charlie's Bistro - Speisekarte

Not sure what to expect, but pleasantly surprised. Wonderful little restaurant. Good food. Good wine. Great service. Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic, had the Cod Welsh rarebit. What a meal !!! Eat out fairly regularly and now and again we go high end. You can’t beat this.

Went for lunch today, and the fact that the place didn't have an empty table after we arrived, said a lot. The food was excellent, as was the service. Decent sized portions as well, no space for dessert. We will be back again. Speisekarte ansehen

We booked a table at this restaurant for New Year and I can’t praise them enough. To begin with they never asked for a deposit (for such an important night too), the service was spot on, the food was all of good quality and cooked well, and we never felt under pressure to leave. The chef even came out of the kitchen and was happy to chat. Was this the cheapest restaurant I’ve been to? No. However it did, in my opinion, value for money. The litmus test is would we go again? Yes, yes, yes and we’ve already been recommending this restaurant to more of our friends. Need to know; 1. There is parking across the road near the church (free) 2. Access is really easy (1 step up from the pavement)

This was my second visit whilst staying locally. Our first visit had the best steak sandwich ever. As a result we went for lunch; the weather was beautiful and we sat outside with a view of the church. Have to say we were very disappointed. Booked in advance, the restaurant was full all but one table at 7.30pm. Limited menu but already sold out of one of the main courses. We ordered starters, which were good and generously portioned, served hot. Our mains were both very average, fish and chips if my husband says it was ok, it wasn’t great and I ordered fillet of beef, med but it was over cooked and dry. We weren’t asked if everything was ok and the single waitresss was very busy but we did comment as she removed our plates, she said she would inform the chef. That was the last we heard. Not being familiar with Baslow, I booked after reading the good reviews on Tripadvisor. We weren't disappointed. Firstly, while not being the most expensive place I have eaten, it certainly wasn't the cheapest either and so it was important that I felt like we'd had an evening out. Thankfully, and probably due to the food being freshly prepared, the speed of service was spot on, allowing us to drink, chat and digest between courses. Service was impressive, given there was only one lady covering all front of house duties. Went to Charlies Bistro in Baslow as an early Fathers day treat last night. I chose it as we hadn't been there for over 10 years and it used to be excellent...but will be more than ten before I go back! On entering a totally disinterested and unfriendly young waitress pointed to our table rather than showed us to it. We then had a long wait for drinks and menus. When the wine arrived it was just plonked on table, no word, tasting or pouring on offer here. Starters were ok, but when the fillet steak I had ordered medium rare turned up. It was the size of a golf ball and totally over cooked. I very, rarely complain but there was no way you can justify £25 for what was essentially poor quality,...

The Goats Cheese Tart starter and Rack of Lamb main were both very good. The chips part of the Cod and Chips was good but the Cod certainly wasn’t. The batter was thin and soggy and the fish itself was wet and lacked flavour. The solitary waitress coped brilliantly but was very busy so it was not easy to attract her attention to complain. Had I done so I would presumably have been offered a replacement fish which would no doubt have been the same, or perhaps a different meal which would have meant a long wait judging by how long we had waited for our initial order and me eating on my own while my partner would have had to sit watching me, having long finished her meal.
