"Walking The Pennine Way and came across this establishment in Lothersdale and decided to sit outside and have a drink as it was a nice day and dogs are not allowed inside. My wife walked into the foyer of the pub and began reading the myriad of signage warning walkers to either take off their walking boots or put on the overshoes provided fair enough. As she was about to reach for the overshoes a man who I assume to be the Landlord came out and spoke to her in a rather offhand and extremely rude manner informing her to Take off tha ' boots or put tha ' overshoes on . It may have been better for him to have spoken in a much more civil tone something along the lines of Good Afternoon I am sorry but we do not allow walking boots in the pub would you mind taking off your boots or put on the overshoes we have provided . As it was she was going to do that anyway. My point here is that it costs to nothing to speak to people in a civil, normal manner particularly as they are guests in your pub and willing to spend money. Uncalled for, extremely rude and totally unnecessary. Maybe we caught him on a bad day I hope so. The Diet Coke tasted alright!"

Nipped in for a drink with family, the pub has just been refurbished and looks amazing, staff very friendly with log burner on and Christmas tree up. Black sheep was a nice pint, and I believe There doing food early next year so defiantly worth a visit.

We go to the Hare Hounds, Lothersdale most weekends and find it having a friendly atmosphere, comfortable with lovely fires in winter. Food is excellent home made, Go near Christmas and you will enjoy the lovely decorations that we have not seen there equal anywhere else in any pub.

I decided to stop by this restaurant on my way home because I didn't feel like cooking on a Sunday evening. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, with nice decor, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed a delicious meal that was well cooked and presented, exactly what I was craving. It was just perfect for me. I will definitely be returning and recommend this restaurant to anyone reading this review.

Generous portions of well prepared traditional Pub fare which the whole family enjoyed in the rear beer garden, could not have been more pleasant.Decent ales on tap and a decent bit of sunshine....perfect!.I see that the Landlord doesn't want to have to clean up other people's mud and dog hair mess and who can blame him?....First had a beer here 35 years ago when doing the Pennine Way....not changed a bit and the house rules were the same! . I had the steak and kidney pud which looked like it had been made in a cowboy's hat...absolutely delicious....can't wait to go back!!... The corned beef and onion pie also comes highly recommended.Wont wait as long to go back next time......

This newly refurbished pub, which will soon being doing food again, was a great place to be on 31 Dec 2017 01 Jan 2018 The bar staff were a great and happy bunch who kept up a great service throughout the night. There was a mixture of locals visitors in the bar and everyone was very enthusiastic for the new look and feel of the pub. There seemed to be a sense of relief that the village had its ‘local’ back! The beer was good and the bar staff were a dab-hand at cocktails too! Being just off the Pennine Way it’s great place to stop for a rest some refreshment be it alcohol or beverage. I believe they have a nice garden terrace out the back which will be nice to sit out on later in the year.

We found the Hare Hounds quite by accident whilst out for a drive. A board outside stated that food was served between 12noon and 9pm on Saturdays and Sunday's. It was a chilly day but inside the pub was a lovely roaring fire. There was a good selection on the printed menu and also an extensive specials board. The prices were all very reasonable even for the steaks. We ordered two beef and ale pies. Both came after a short wait, the food and the plates were piping hot, the portion sizes were excellent, veg was served separate and was a selection of peas, carrot and swede mash, beans and tomato. The meal was excellent, very tasty and very filling. The total cost of the meal and drinks came to...

Called here today, 26 Nov 2014, and just as we were going to take our boots of in the doorway, the Landlord called us to come in anyway. No problem with boots he said! The weather was damp after rain, (so were we! he showed us to a large corner table near the roaring open fire and asked what we wanted to drink, a warm welcome indeed! Decked out with Xmas décor, the pub was very inviting and warm, food ordered and drinks brought to the table (3 pints of Blondie, 1 coffee and a large Coke we settled in and chatted to some locals. The beer was on form and we didn't have to wait long for our food, 2 corned beef and onion pie, 1 braised steak, 1 steak and ale pie, all with chips and a large bowl...

As my dad isn 't on TripAdvisor, I am writing on his behalf. My mum and dad were out walking and they were looking forward to a bowl of soup and a pint. They were outside knocking mud off their boots when the landlord came out and told them there was no point in doing that as they have to take their boots off anyway because they have just had new carpets! Now, we all understand that no-one wants their new carpets spoiling and that muddy walking boots would mess them up. The point is that the landlord was very off-hand. Had he have asked nicely or been that little bit more polite, my mum and dad would have offered to take their boots off before they were asked. They put on their waterproofs a...
