"A superb little coffee shop hidden down the pleasant back-streets of central Carlisle Fortunately we visited the place mid-morning with the shop half-full of customers. There's around 12 tables, roughly 5 at ground level and the remainder up four steps which may prove a little awkward for people who are unsteady on their feet and have to rely on sticks or crutches etc That said, the shop feels very cosy, fresh and clean. The tables were always cleared of old food, cups and plates within a couple of minutes of customers leaving; and the plastic table clothes were always wiped down properly, with no obvious mess on chairs or surrounding floor The menus are quite typical for a coffee shop scones, cakes, sandwiches, soups, hot toasties, full breakfasts. And some of the walls do carry special deals and/or chef's specials. And the good thing is that there is a waitress to take you order at your table. So you can always ask questions or ask for variations to your choice, and they are happy to do that for you In my case I went for ham cheese on wholemeal bread (the menu doesn't offer this combo, but by simply asking, they will oblige). I also had the soup of the day (home made thick and creamy vegetable), which was rather excellent The ham cheese sandwich came with the usual lettuce, tomatoes mayo side, but the entire meal was delightful, filling and very tasty To follow I went for a slice of apple pie and two scoops of vanilla ice cream, and a pot of tea. Again all very nice, especially the pie, which was rich with flavour and very filling During the hour I spent there the shop was beginning to reach capacity, and yet the three waitresses kept on top of things with ease; always patient, always with a smile on their faces and ready to help when needed Even though the final bill was around £14 or so I would definitely make a point of coming again, not least for the pleasant staff and surrounds; but also for the quality of food on offer."

Homemade food freshly prepared, me and my partner both thoroughly enjoyed everything. Service was fast and friendly even though most tables were full.

I and my sisters have ordered toasties and chips. the eating itself was in order, standard, no frills really. £1.90 for a dosis pop is a little extreme the whole place felt just a bit dubbby as if it was a really good deep clean. the cute was dirty so I ended with my fingering, I wouldn't hit back

we went there for teacakes a coffee and a hot chocolate. the service wad was friendly, efficient and slow fast. the teacskes were delicious, my man loved his coffee and my hot chocolate was from this world. the price was also appropriate. I'll bring my friend to lunch next week when she comes to visit.

We visited on Saturday after reading earlier reviews. Enjoyed soup and sandwich -both excellent choices. I noted some criticisms of the toilets and sticky tables. These were unfair as while the tables are sticky it shows the cleaning that is undertaken. Similarly I was confident about utilising the toilet even if I had to give way to someone exiting because of the narrow entrance. It is better to be sure of the hygiene of facilities these days. Very friendly and efficient service and we were greeted by one of the staff later in the afternoon as we continued our visit to Carlisle. The cakes are worth it as well Speisekarte ansehen

We popped in for a late lunch after mooching around Carlisle. A lovely, clean and friendly little place. I had the soup and toastie deal and my partner had the steak pie. Both homemade and full of flavour. The perfect pick me up and winter...warmer after a windy day out. The soup was vegetable and lentil ham hock, which I’ve never had before and can’t wait to try some more. My partner has a large appetite and to the teams surprise ordered a second bowl of chips (after chips came with his meal anyway) and we shared a laugh that he wasn’t allowed to leave if he didn’t finish, much to the shock of the team here…it was in fact finished and he even wanted more! A lovely visit, and would definitel...

we stayed on the way back from Scotland to shropshire to carlisle and looked for a place to lunch. the arches is very close to the cathedrale and looked clean and cheap. the tables were well spaced and friendly. we have the choice where we should sit, and the waitress was very friendly and attentive, not hurrying, but there when we needed them. I had steakcake, packed with meat, very delicate and tasty. my wife had the plower who was massive and had everything on it, bee, sink, bee hearty, pickel, whirl, broth, all delicious. On our way back from Scotland to Shropshire, we stopped in Carlisle and looked for a place to have lunch. The Arches is conveniently located near the cathedral and appeared to be clean and affordable. The tables were spaced out well and adhered to Covid-19 guidelines. We were able to choose where we wanted to sit and the waitress was friendly and attentive, not rushing us but always there when we needed her. The menu offered a variety of options including sandwiches, jacket potatoes, cakes, and full meals. I ordered the steak cake, which was loaded with meat and very tasty. My wife had the ploughman's platter, which was large and included cheese, ham, pickles, bread, and soup, all of which w... Speisekarte ansehen

Located in the heart of central Carlisle, this charming little coffee shop is a hidden gem in the back streets. The cozy, clean atmosphere welcomes you as soon as you walk in, with around 12 tables for guests to enjoy. The menu offers a variety of coffee shop staples such as scones, cakes, sandwiches, soups, hot toasties, and full breakfasts, with daily specials posted on the walls. The friendly waitress will take your order at your table, allowing for any special requests or variations. Despite not being on the menu, they happily accommodated my request for a ham and cheese sandwich on wholemeal bread. The soup of the day, a thick and creamy vegetable soup, was also a highlight of the meal....

would absolutely not recommend eating here. I have eaten here twice and every experience was bad my recent experience, I came in and sat down when it wasn't busy at all. a few came a few minutes after me and was immediately served as I wait. the waitress (an older lady) went and the couple tried to get their attention at least 3 different paintings to me, but they were ignored after almost 10 minutes a younger girl came to serve me. I asked her about a table size of conductive water together with my order and she brought me a cup of water with small black foreign bodies into it. I had most of them drunk before I realized and she came back to replace it was not delicious, I ordered an salat a...

"We went to Mamma's Restaurant 3/9/23 for lunch around 1:30pm. We ordered 2 senior citizens lunches, which consists of small fish and chips, mushy peas a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea. The pot of tea arrived within a few minutes. Our son joined us and ordered Scampi and chips a portion of gravy and a can of pop. His meal and drink arrived within 10 minutes and he began to tuck in, ours had not yet arrived. A further 5 to 10 minutes later my wife's fish and chips arrived and she tucked in, mine had still not arrived. When my wife was half way through her meal, mine finally arrived, at which point I asked if we could have the bread and butter which was part of the meal deal, we waited and my wife had actually finished her meal when we asked again for the bread and butter and were told it was on its way. We waited, the same member of staff who assured me the bread and butter was on its way then brought and served the meals to the table next to us. I asked again for the bread and butter, which finally came after about another 5 minutes. By this time my wife and son had finished eating and I was almost finished. The food was good, but the service was absolutely atrocious and at a cost of almost £37 for the 3 of us, is unacceptable. Unfortunately I will not eat here again and would not recommend to anyone I know to do so, after our experience."
