"Fancied a little drive in Suffolk, so decided to book Sunday Lunch , phoned and pre booked , they could not fit us in at 12.30pm , so booked for 1.30pm, when we got there was just waiting for someone to seat us , the staff were just standing there, finally went over and then got seated, considering they changed the time because said busy, there were only one other party of four there. Took ages to get a drink first, the waitress came over , we ordered the Tempara prawns to start, was not home made could tell the prawn inside was just mush, the sauce it came with was disgusting, ordered the Roast Beef for main, the potatoes were deep fried, I do like my beef Medium/Rare, but so rare thought it was going to walk off plate. When the landlady came over to clear plates, asked me why we had left our food, did tell her but don’t think she was really listening, At least they gave us a discount , only paid for drinks and starters. Such a shame as could be a really nice pub."

Visited this fab village pub a number of times whilst staying locally. 2 lovely meals and drinks in a great location on the village green. Friendly staff too. Combine your visit with a walk around the village and through the very special Dollops Wood.

Staying in a campsite locally, we visited this lovely pub twice during our stay and if we were here longer, then l am sure we would have been back more.. Cosy atmosphere with a log fire, great food and welcoming hosts, this is a gem that if you are staying in this part of the world, you won’t want to miss! Speisekarte ansehen

Lovely friendly welcome from Deborah and her team, local community also very welcoming. Food was fabulous. Really recommend the chicken pesto ciabatta don't know how they can afford to put so much good quality chicken breast on the sandwich at this cost. Best I have had. Def recommended. EXTREMELY DOG FRIENDLY 11 10 stars

We had pre-booked a table and requested 7:30, but the lady on the phone suggested 7pm. We compromised at 7:15 as we were meeting friends for a 6pm walk. The pie was an excellent choice for our group of 4. There wasn't much going on as we were the only ones, apart from the staff, in the pub at 7:15. The service was unobtrusive. I recommend giving this place a try as it would be a shame to lose this country pub due to lack of visitors. Carol.

The cutest little pub, the owners were truly lovely and made sure you were well taken care of! The food was easily the best pub food I’ve ever had and my family used to own a pub like this!!! I had gammon and it was beautiful, not salty at all and very juicy. Hand cut fat chunky chips and wonderful fresh eggs. Even the side salad was delicious. It was quiet for a Saturday evening (pub is out of the way and hidden a little) but we very much enjoyed that. Truly wonderful place Speisekarte ansehen

I went to this restaurant based on a recommendation and it was a lovely experience to dine in a pub that truly felt like a pub. The atmosphere was cozy with a nice open fire and locals chatting to each other. I ordered the large beer battered haddock and chips, which I would rate as a 10/10 as it was cooked to perfection. The fish was fresh and not hidden in a thick layer of batter. My wife had the halloumi burger and she thought it was the best she had ever tried. In summary, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I only trust my own experience when it comes to reviews and we will definitely be returning more often.

Cannot rate this place high enough! We arranged for our local u3a History group to have lunch at the **** Inn at Polstead after visiting churches on the Suffolk/Essex border. Deborah was so helpful in arranging the menu, which had a good choice of meals. Nothing was too much trouble and she even arranged for gluten free bread to make the moules frites gluten free. The food and service was excellent with dietary requirements catered for. Our group of fourteen all thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The setting of the pub is in a lovely location and you must visit the church which has the most amazing views over the countryside. Thank you Deborah for making the lunch go so smoothly.

"I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. From the start we could tell that they were under the cosh, the manager was sick, and we were told repeatedly how busy they were tonight. We asked to eat 30 mins later than booked which they said would help. We ordered a half bottle of champagne but had to wait about 15 minutes as the fridge was broken at it would not be cold. It arrived and wasn't cold enough really, then after 10 minutes in the ice bucket it was. Simultaneously other guests were told the coffee machine was also broken. A bit of a shame as we were celebrating a birthday and it sort of spoiled the moment waiting for a drink. Then ordered a 2014 Pomerol which to be honest I found really rather average, but that is the luck of the draw. The food was quite good, but only one course impressed us, the trout was good. The staff seem very downbeat to the point of it being awkward, one told us and another table to make as much mess as we like as it was her last shift. Others seemed very awkward and lacking confidence/a smile. Again, hard to get quality staff at the moment, but there seemed to be a lack of pride/confidence in what is being delivered. I also asked for cheese to finish off, in the past they had a glorious cheese cart with a huge selection of great cheeses. I accept maybe it was too hot for this, but I was simply given a plate of three cheeses, no one asked me if I would like to choose anything or for example do I like blue cheese. Then when it was delivered my wife tried one of them, liked it so asked what it was, and they didn't know what the cheese was which is probably not what they aspire to. makes me sad as the cheese at the Great House is stuff of legend. More minor stuff: Breakfast wise the coffee in the percolator was way too strong even for someone who likes strong coffee, a tiny shot of milk was not enough so we asked for more, would have been nice to be offered hot milk to make Cafe Au Lait etc. Also another minor point, the soap and shower gels were quite horrible, they stick to you and don't wash off, not something I'm usually bothered about, but the half empty containers looked like they had be refilled with something not very nice, or it was just never very good. When we checked out I think the manager may have been back, he did not ask us once how our stay had been so we had no real chance to say anything. We tried to be understanding and of course being British nothing was really a problem for us, but when you've spent £500 for a birthday it was all a bit disappointing and not nearly up to par. I sympathise that it might have been a difficult night, but to be honest it would have come off better if I hadn't been reminded every few minutes that they were so busy and everything going wrong. I'm not even sure that they were that busy, the terrace was out of bounds and the restaurant was 3/4 full. Matters were drawn in to focus the next day when we went to the Weavers Spa, and also for lunch at the Crown in Stoke by Nayland, staff were cheerful, helpful and great at both of these local places. Sorry for writing this negative review which I feel sad to have written about a place we used to love. Rooms: 4 Service: 2 Location: 4"
