"OK, our second visit to The Finnieston came about through a 5pm Valentine's deal offering 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for £49. Not a bad deal, we thought as we booked it online. We turned up at the restaurant to find that they apparently had no record of our booking. Luckily, my ever-prepared better half had a printout of the email that we could waft under their faces and, after some off-stage discussion with the manager, they soon managed to find us a table at the window. The next surprise came when the server listed all the dishes that were not part of the deal, almost half the menu as it turned out. For those other dishes, there was a £5 per portion surcharge. We went ahead and ordered the hake, which I don't think was on the proscribed list (although there was some uncertainty about this when the bill arrived . After having to remind them about the free glass of prosecco, I ordered a bottle of Malborough Savignon Blanc (which was rather tasty, I must say , in the process failing to notice in the dim lighting (plus the fact that it was printed in pale red ink and I didn't have my glasses on that the price was £36 a bottle and not the £25.50 that I thought it was (that was for a half-bottle! . Anyway, the food was very nice, although the sauce with the hake was perhaps a little overpowering. Some interesting combinations of flavours and certainly some adventurous dishes that were tasty, even if they didn't entirely work. Next, the bill... here again, they seem to have completely forgotten that we had pre-paid on the 5pm deal, and presented us with a full-price bill. After a couple of trips to the bar to get this sorted out with the manager, I *think* we managed to work things out satisfactorily, but it wasn't easy. All in all, we paid £86 for that meal; to be fair, the wine was £36 (and was probably the best thing in it , but it was let down once again by the lackadaisical service and their initial disbelief that we had booked and paid for the meal in advance. Sorry Finnieston, there is a lot of competition in this stretch of Argyle Street these days. You'll have to pull your socks up if you want to stay in the game. We're certainly not inclined to return."
