"nice pub we got for a few drinks in the afternoon and went to the tee in the evening. We ordered fish and chips and steak and ale cake both delicious and home made we a side of tweebel rings that were forgotten. but slightly sorted and restored. we had cheesecake and sticky toast pudding for the desert. unfortunately I ended with sirupschwamm, but it was still nice so I didn't complain. we got another bill, but we told the staff that this was not ours and again slightly resolved. very nice pub and friendly staff we would come back because the problems we had were very small."

There's not really much more to say service wasn't too shabby, the food was nice, a reasonable price and it was a nice enough space for meeting up with friends after they had been out walking. Would go again.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here, the staff were excellent they looked after us really well. There was 12 in our party including two wheelchair users easy access. We had a meal here last year a little disappointed but this year it was brilliant.

Visited on a wet and windy (early) evening for a bar meal. Despite the pub being busy and us not having booked, we were found a table immediately. Mushroom soup of the day was the best ever compliments to the chef! Also had a...small portion of scampi and chips plus a tikka masala, both very tasty and reasonable priced. Overall, very good value for money.

On my friend’s birthday we had a lovely walk from Hartington we went to the Manifold Inn in search of some tea. As luck would have it it was steak night. We both had 12 oz rump steaks with all the trimmings. They were absolutely...delicious, really well cooked and generous portions. All at a very reasonable price of £35 with a bottle of wine. I can highly recommend it!

We spent two nights in the coachouse (room 11) and it was excellent. The room was spotless with everything you could need for a stay. The bathroom was beautiful with a roll top bath and very efficient shower. We ate in the restaurant on both...evenings and the food is very good. With a campsite across the road, the pub was pretty busy and could probably have benefitted from an extra pair of hands (or two) behind the bar. Breakfast was very good too but, again, would have benefitted from more that one person serving and clearing tables.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
