"What do you want me to say? an absolute diamant of a restaurant. fantastic eating with a beautiful view of the harbour, from the terrace. I have booked a late family dinner to the birthday of my wife so we could see the harbour, the bay and the pier at sunset. 5 of us, with ease (in advance booked.) service was great, polite and with a smile. Praise was beautiful, the plague was divine and the children loved their seabass and seaweed. everything really fresh and cooked after their desire. I will definitely book again if we are next to the neck of the forest."

stunning eating, creatiw prepared, with local ingredients. had the scallops and lobsters, both fantastic, and heard nothing but praise for the dishes other guests ate. very beautiful! and the mini desserts were a joy.

Good location and very good food. If the weather is nice you can sit outside. We slipped up as the evening was really nice but we chose to sit inside. Local catch cooked in different styles . I had pollock in the curry fusion which I have to say was delicious. Not the cheapest of places but you get what you pay for !

Friendly service and food is excellent I would say better than you think if you came across the restaurant when walking by. Great menu and range of options, quality of food was excellent and you can tell they pay close attention to their dishes. Food was fresh and reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone visiting or passing through Paignton.

Very disappointing. Slow service, below average food. One main sent back , just unpleasant. Alternative offered, but again an unacceptable delay by which time the other main had been finished and cleared. FOH staff apologetic and bill adjusted, but overall probably our worst dining experience. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Me and my wife enjoyed a fantastic meal here last night. For the starters, the mussels were fantastic and the calamari were amazing. Then for main we both had sea bass as the fish of the day. My wife had it with noodles and shrimp where as I had it herb crusted with a potato fondant. Both were fantastic. I cannot recommend this place more as the food and service were impeccable. The food here is absolutely gorgeous. I only rate it for 4 star for the expense that is almost justified by the care and attention that the chefs pay to the presentation and delightful taste of their food. The aesthetic gives rise to the idea that you may be in a fishery in Greece. With a stunning view of Torbay, the taste of fish and the delicately seasoned chips, you'd be reluctant to go home to the television and a take away. Elegant, simple, charming all around and the staff are absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for you

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
